2016-2017 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
when does this school interview until? I have been "applicant in progress" since sept

Someone has probably already asked this, and I went back a few pages to look, but I couldn't find anything. So I apologize if it's been asked already, but does anyone know when the second look day is?

For any current students, how is the UMed program at UIC? I was interested in applying for it, but I wanted to get the input of someone who has actually been through it.

Hi all, just got an interview invitation, although I know it's fairly late in the process. Did anyone happen to see the feb. dates? I forgot to write them down and need to try getting the earliest date possible.

also any advice about interviewing late in the cycle?

Congratulations on your interview! If you call them back, they will let you know what earlier dates are available. I did this and was able to schedule an interview for less than a week later.

Has anyone gotten a pre-II rejection? Or do they wait until the end of the cycle?

did most people take two weeks to hear back about campus placement after their stuff was received?

Got my II today out of the blue! The only available interview dates were 3/3 and 3/7 which seems super late in the interview season. Should I even be hopeful for this interview or are they most likely full?

Got an email this morning saying I'd get a post interview update about my application in March and that I am in a "very select group of excellent individuals under active consideration to become a member of our Fall 2017 class."

Interviewed in October. Anybody else receive a similar message?

me too. after going thru last year's thread, looks like this is replacing the "further review" email. in essence, it seems like they will continue to review us each meeting until all the interviewers are done.

with that being said, did anybody get an acceptance or rejection today?

I got that email as well, interviewed in October. Has anyone that has been in "Decision Pending" for over a month not received this email?

I interviewed in early Jan didn't receive a decision this past Thursday. Have not received the email.

Has anyone received an email form [email protected] about an update on your application (for those that have been accepted already)

I did and I've also been accepted! Were you able to login to the portal it linked to? My UIC login information doesn't seem to work? I'm wondering if maybe it was a mistake email? I'm sort of under the impression that UIC is not the most organized school...

I was accepted back in November and literally haven't received any emails from UIC since before my interview. The only communication I've had was getting my acceptance packet in the mail and then getting my campus placement.

Ok I have officially set up my @uic.edu email and I am in the portal and was wondering have you guys all been automatically placed in the Chicago campus on the portal?

How were you able to set it up? I got accepted in October and besides campus placement, I haven't heard anything from them. Have you completed the immunization requirements?

Most of my immunization are in...maybe its because I was already in their system I had a UIN and netID already all they had to do was switch it to the UIC campus.

I also just received the email with my UIN and Token to setup my UIC Gmail and portal account. Accepted in December, not sure if it has to with immunizations because I have 2/3 of mine in. Maybe just when we were accepted?
@joejoemk, yes I also have a tab that says "COM Chicago." I was placed in Peoria

I was also placed in Peoria and have the COM Chicago tab. That said, at least in my portal, if I click the "UIC Connect" tab, all of the sub-tabs there say College of Medicine at Peoria and list my major as "Medicine-Peoria."

Okay, so it seems it might be connected to being placed in Peoria. I was placed in Chicago, and I haven't received any updates. Is this the same for others placed in Chicago?

I got accepted in October and haven't received my UIC email, just campus placement

Also placed in chicago, with no updates yet. Maybe it is a peoria thing, or could it be that those who received Net ID's and UIC emails where already in the UIC system as undergrads

Does anyone know when do scholarship offers get sent out? I have already been accepted and I just sent back my campus placement request.

+1, accepted in November, placed in Chicago and haven't heard anything from UIC since my campus placement

The FB page is weirdly inactive and I'm looking for a roommate as I don't know anyone in Chicago!

I'm assuming it'll stay that way till like march. It's almost like no one wants to be the first to speak. Plus, if you look at the members, the group is mainly filled with M1s and M2s

I would imagine that a lot of people with multiple acceptances are not sure where they want to go yet (or at least thats the case for me). I wont start to look for roommates until I have decided, which won't be until financial aid packages start to come out in March. I don't really see why people need to start looking now as it is, we still have like 6 months lol

Can anyone in the special curricular programs speak on them? Specifically, anyone in the Urban Med program?

Yeah, I'm also interested in hearing about the special curricular programs. Do people do these things and find them to be beneficial/fulfilling/manageable?

Hi all,

As an OOS applicant with very few interviews thus far, I was shocked to receive an II here. I'd really love to talk to someone who interviewed here and it's be ESPECIALLY helpful to talk to an OOS person who interviewed here. Please reach out to me! Thanks. 🙂

I agree. Of the schools where I had one-on-one interviews, I found that I really enjoyed my interviews at UIC. They were also really accommodating: one of my interviewers wasn't able to make it so one of the admissions staff interviewed me instead. There wasn't a delay and although he asked more standard interview questions, he seemed sincerely interested in my experiences; I also felt that the question/answer dynamic flowed naturally into more of a conversation. My other interviewer was a faculty member and I was surprised that we basically talked about our mutual love of photography. Yes, we talked about the curriculum and students but the bulk of it was really chill, and dare I say, fun? That also seemed to be the consensus from my fellow interviewees, even those who had different interviewers. Best of luck and hopefully you'll really enjoy it! 🙂

P.S. I also had two interviewers (originally two faculty, but modified to one faculty, one admissions staff), as my student interviewer couldn't make it either.

What was the general focus? Research, personal experience, your personality, service?

I'm not sure if there was a general focus, per se. Since the first interview had more standard questions, I tried to bring in my relevant experiences (academic, research, personal, etc.) to enrich my responses. By the end, I found that I was also explaining what I thought I could bring to UIC. For the second interview, it was much more of a conversation. I felt like it was more about assessing whether you're someone who can sit down and connect with the complete stranger on the other side of the table (i.e., can you be engaged about some mutually interesting topic).

Anyone who interviewed here relatively recently have any idea how many OOS spots they have left? Interviewing in March, and just wondering if I should be resigning myself to the waitlist (which I'm ok with I suppose) or if there is a legitimate chance at an outright acceptance.
