any umich undergrads on here who have received a II?
Sweet Baby Jesus, coupled with 1 in 7 odds for instate applicants.Current student here: FYI they are scheduling more OOS interviews earlier in the year (weather problems the last couple years caused too many reschedules) so there will be more IS IIs for later in the cycle.
Hope is a wonderful drug here is some more hypothetical analysis based on their Five Year data

I assumed a normal distribution and used the excel functions to generate random numbers within a range. Here is a link http://www.mbaexcel.com/excel/how-to-create-a-normally-distributed-set-of-random-numbers-in-excel/How did you make this? I have been wanting to do something like this for the schools I applied to for a while.
Realistically, there are probably 400 applicants in the state of MI with MCAT above 30 and GPA above 3.5. They will probably interview those who have LizzyMs close to >70~. There are probably only 180 applicants in the state of MI that meet those criteria, they interview 160 of them and accept 115 of those. Not terrible odds. It is safe to say if you dont have any large red flags and have a LizzyM greater than 71 in MI you will get an interview, because they dont have a really deep instate pool to draw from.I assumed a normal distribution and used the excel functions to generate random numbers within a range. PM me if you have any questions.
You need a way to factor in their strong preference for umich grads. I want to say somewhere around half of IS acceptees are umich grads.Realistically, there are probably 400 applicants in the state of MI with MCAT above 30 and GPA above 3.5. That is true, however those grads are still included in the AMCAS Michigan reporting. It is likely that they constitute a majority of IS applicants with LizzyM's greater than 70. It is quite possible that the bunch of people getting accepted with 29-32 mcats are their own undergrads. This would also explain why they have an average gpa of 3.8~ . a 3.99 with a 31 will get you a seat. You need a way to factor in their strong preference for umich grads. there are 800 seats in MI with an matriculant LizzyM average of 68.3. Unless there other red flags, mission mismatch, or interview blunders you are probably 1 SD above the average mattriculant and going to do well.I sure hope so. Im not quite as stressed about it anymore now that Ive received my first II, though. It really feels like a weight has been lifted, and I can finally deal with being patient for the rest of my apps.
Only time will tell now.
You should......... do the same for OOS applicants. You know, so everyone can join in the neuroticism... 😀

making them up. I assumed the SD would be smaller for OOS applicants considering there arent a whole lot of 39+ scores in the wild so I placed it at 2 SDs. For IS applicants it was naturally larger because the range was larger and the mean was at a lower I assumed there would be larger variation so I placed it at 3. I suppose I could look at 90th and 10th percentiles and calculate based on mean, but there isnt enough certainty or clarity on that data, so it would be just as inaccurate. I am willing to rerun the data if you can give me more accurate SDs.Awesome. Thanks! As a side, how are you getting the standard deviations you've been using?

The problem with that is URM or other exceptional candidates will sometimes fall outside the normal distribution on the lower side, therefore mean plus two SDs on the top makes more sense. its also probably skewed distribution towards the right. If I remember correctly, a good rule of thumb using just the maximum and minimum values is (maximum-minimum)/4 = rough sd, which would be about 4 for both OOS and IS MCAT. Your reasoning makes sense as well, though. Either way, thanks a bunch for all the analyses!
do they historically release over a holiday?Well good luck tomorrow everyone. Fingers crossed.
They did last labor daydo they historically release over a holiday?
I wonder if they are still focusing on OOS or if tomorrow will be the day for IS apps as well. Also, curious if they have completed looking at July completions yet. Not really expecting much love from here, but you never know. They did last labor day
Our labor of love=#UMichMedMondays! 30 interview invitations sent this afternoon...16 states, 20 undergrads. #GoBlueMed
I was not lucky today.... maybe in 3 or 4 months..
Does anyone know if interviews are only offered on Fridays? I'm only getting two options and both are on a Friday.
10/28 11/4
Here is the link to all of Michigan's interview days: https://medicine.umich.edu/medschoo...u.medschool/files/2016-17 interview dates.pdfDoes anyone know if interviews are only offered on Fridays? I'm only getting two options and both are on a Friday.

According to this https://medicine.umich.edu/medschoo...ool/files/field/docs/5YearAdmSnapshot16_1.pdf the average MCAT is 95.5 for O0S interviewees and Acceptees .Are you sure about 35 number for OOS? I think their median is closer to 37 because OOS students I know who got in last year had 38 or higher MCAT score but my pool is like 5. One of them was at 42.
IS mondays will come, I will probably continue to have ptsd of oos mondays through june.
That sounds like a good way to go. Best if you can tie in how your new experiences make you a better fit with the school.Anyone have any tips on updating the application? I have a 1st author pub under review and started a job recently...should i include these in a letter format and restate my interest for attending umich med? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂
IS/OOS?II just now. Excited!
Ya I have no hope at this point. They've given out too many IIs already.33 II's - 18 states =more than half OOS again....
