2016-2017 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know where we are supposed to pay the secondary application fee?

Does anybody know if Umich takes update LORs pre-II? I have already sent 5 through AMCAS, but I have been working in a Umich lab as a grad student here and my PI is an MD/PhD who has offered to write me a LOR.

I'd say that's a good way to go. I'm considering doing so in the near future.

They're starting to trail off now. Only 5 IIs went out today.

That's quite speculative, with just under 1/3 of the total interviews still up for grabs and the secondary application closed I'm sure there's plenty of reason to grasp on to hope for those of us who haven't received an II yet.

wait, when they say all interviews are out on this UMichMonday, do they mean no more interviews for the rest of the year or just for this monday??

They mean just this Monday. It wasn't more than two weeks ago that they said there is some 18 weeks worth of interview invites remaining.

Thank you! 😀

There was in the end of January and one in February -- I choose the January one!

What day did you pick? I'm so excited to meet other interviewees
I picked Jan 27th!

OMGGGG I'm finally going to meet someone from SDN in person! loll
I messaged someone who also went to my undergrad while studying for the MCAT. After we both took the exam, we actually met up at the gym and spoke in person for the first time lol.

Looking at their interview schedule, February 3rd seems to be the last day to interview. Are they almost done giving out IIs?

Any advice/tips for someone who will be interviewing at this school? It is also my first/one-and-only interview in general for this application cycle so I am quite nervous. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

I had a really positive experienced interviewing here! The staff do all they can to help you feel relaxed. The two long form interviews are conversational, the interviewers just want to learn about interesting stuff on your application. Re-read your application to make sure you can talk about everything you put on there. Also, it's always good to research the school ahead of time and figure out why it is a good fit for you so you can tell them if they ask. As for the MMI part, I was really stressed about it but it wasn't bad at all. Just have some friends or family practice with you so you can get used to the format (ie. the time limit, acting out scenarios, etc). I prepared using Michigan's career center site https://careercenter.umich.edu/article/mmi-resources. You are going to do great!

I'm still hoping to get an interview invite here. This means that, if I do get an acceptance, I won't be able to start looking for housing until potentially as late as March. Since Ann Arbor is mostly student housing, where do most M1's find their housing?

My cousin is an M1 here and apparently most M1 and M2 live in the apartments that are right next to the hospital for convenience so that is probably where you would begin your search

On the mobile med tracker, it says my secondary application and fee weren't received (no check marks in the boxes), but on the actual application portal it says my application is complete. What am I supposed to make of this? I thought I was complete a long time ago, but only just now checked the tracker.

I dont think UMMS still uses this. If you look at the mobile tracker admissions tracker, it was last updated in November of 2014. There "recent" class profile listed is for 2013.

If you received an email saying your secondary was submitted and that status is reflected on the portal, I would assume you are okay.

5 more II's went out Today. Hope they are IS.
They also updated the tracker .

There's an area called the "White Coat Ghetto" according to an MS4. Sounds like housing isn't really a problem in Ann Arbor.

Does anyone know if October interviewees will found out before Nov 20th? Since that is Sunday. Seems like Michigan traditionally sends decisions out earlier if the original date is going to be a weekend.
That's what she told us on our interview day. She said "hint hint we will tell you before Nov 20th, and since Nov 20th is a Sunday and no one will be here..."

My link doesn't work!! Ahhhh it's just a blank page with no video
