2016-2017 University of South Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all! While I was at interview day, there were a lot of students who said that almost all of the people who interview early get accepted. So I was wondering, has anyone got waitlisted/rejected post-interview yet?

Thanks a bunch!

Does anyone know if a lot of USF students are able to do away rotations around Florida?

For those of you still waiting on the acceptance email, here's the content of it so you're not missing anything:

"By now, you have been notified of the great news regarding your admission status. A formal letter of acceptance will be on its way to you within the next week. We congratulate you on your acceptance and look forward to being a part of your medical educational journey.

When you have a moment, please log into your on line USF application to accept the offer by clicking the radio button. Please know, that just like the paper form we will send you in the acceptance packet, neither correspondence is legally binding. By clicking that you accept the offer, merely lets us know that you are acknowledging that you were offered a seat in the Class of 2021 at the USF Morsani College of Medicine. We understand that this is a dynamic process for you and your family with so much to consider.

As always, please feel free to contact me or Dr. Daniel should you have any questions."

3 VERY important questions:
1. How much do Monster Energy drinks cost on campus?
2. Do they have red ones?
3. Are there vending machines stocked with them (aka can they be purchased at any time)?
As disappointed as I am in myself, I must admit this is easily the most relevant question ever posted on a school-specific thread... Why this isn't included on MSAR is beyond me, even though I am more concerned about the availability of the white sugar free ones though.

Really important questions.

1. I think they're $2.50 in the bookstore but not 100% sure

2. Yes

3. The vending machines don't have them, they're only in the bookstore which closes at 5pm. However there is gas station like 2 blocks down the street or a Starbucks across the street if you like coffee.

The most relevant question isn't if there are vending machines stocked with them on campus, but if there is a Walgreens within walking distance since they have the $5/3 deal.

Okay I see on their website that the bookstore opens at 8AM. What time is the earliest class/lab usually?

Class starts at 8am but you have a little time to get something from the bookstore and then sneak into class a little late, happens all the time. Otherwise wait till class gets out at 8:50. This is like my life whenever I go to lecture lol except lately it's been getting chick fila breakfast on the way to campus and walking into class 5 mins late

Could you or someone else elaborate on your weekly class schedule? I just realized that I don't really have any idea of what being a med student at USF is like haha.

Do we only hear back about student hosting if they have someone available?
I heard back from them around Thursday before my Tuesday interview.

EDIT: crap i just realized I misread your question.

MS1 here who loves it... but yea our energy drink situation isn't great, they just added a new dinning place on the med campus with 2 coolers full of energy drinks... but it's only open business hours (and abbreviated ones at that)

As far as schedule roughly MWF 8-2 lecture with a break from noon to 1. all lectures are recorded. probably ~1/3 of class goes? (occasionally this goes till 3)

Either T or R 4 hours of doctoring in the afternoon. two hours of anatomy lab either M or W (or rarely Friday)

various other things sprinkled in.

The Rising Roll was such a letdown. Below average food, above average prices, bad hours.

MS2 typical schedule

M: lecture 8-12, DCE 1-5
T: lecture 8-12, 1-3 or 1-5
W: lecture 8-12, Doctoring 2-5
R: morning free or lecture 8-12, CPS 3-5
F: lecture 8-12, usually no lecture on Friday the week before a Monday exam

I received the acceptance phone call last Wednesday, but haven't received a confirmation email since. Is this delay normal?

Huh so it seems like people don't have time for EC's and research during med school.

How is the parking situation on campus for students? Are there enough spaces? Also, is there spaces/charging stations for electric vehicles? Thank you

I received a call and email on the same day last cycle. Wouldn't hurt to call in and check. Especially if they indicated you would be receiving some sort of electronic communication?

How long after they interviewed did everyone get the phone for acceptance?

It's been a full week since I got the call and so far I have not seen anything. No portal update, no email, no snail mail. Are they just unusually slow with me, or is this typical pace? I'm starting to irrationally worry I might have not gotten accepted after all or something...
It took about 2 weeks for me iirc. I totally know how you feel though.

Haha I got the call today and I'm already starting to doubt myself 😳

I am in the same boat. Got the call from Dr. Daniels on 10/26 and then silence. I'm pretty sure I didn't hallucinate the call either lol.

Has anyone still not had their application viewed? Complete in July and nothing from USF....
Also complete July and unviewed. Are you IS or OOS?

I'm OOS and applied CORE, so I figure this wait was to be expected.

Accepted to core! :soexcited:

I have a question though! On the secondary, it asks if you are enrolled in a postbacc program. I was enrolled in one through my new job at a university, but I was unable to continue due to my benefits not kicking in until classes had already started. Should I update? How should I approach this?

Just received the acceptance letter for CORE. Got the call almost two weeks ago.

Did you ever end up getting an email or anything? I was told during my call last wednesday to expect some information "soon".

I haven't received any emails since I got the call. The acceptance package is the only form of communication I have received since the phone call.
