Let's say today San Antonio only ranked 220 students. Not all of those 220 students will have put San Antonio as their top choice, meaning there are vacant seats. I'm asking if the Match process requires the school to have ranked more students so they can fill these vacant seats left by students who Matched to higher schools. Am I making sense? 😵

TMDSAS makes sure this doesn't happen. They have some algorithm that somehow matches all of the seats in Texas based on our rankings and how we were ranked by the school. Currently, none of the seats should be open until someone decides to give it up for an OOS acceptance.

If someone has a pre-match to another school and today for example they match into UTHSCSA, would that individual technically have a seat at two medical schools or just one as of this moment?

Just one. Their prematch seat will be given up if they matched today to a school they ranked higher.
 
Congratulations to everyone!!!! Just wondering, for those of you who got matched, can you please share your GPA and MCAT? If you don't mind of course!!
 
Was hoping for a match here. I don't know what to think or feel anymore.
 
Have any OOS applicants heard anything recently? I contacted the admissions office a couple weeks ago and they said they'd be sending more OOS offers after the match on 2/1, so I was wondering how much longer after 2/1 they meant.
 
Congrats to all those have matched! To those that haven't, I'm really hoping we have a shot at the alternate list.

Yeah UTHSCSA definitely had a more homey vibe! And you could still get off the waitlist and get to pick so it's not over. Congrats though dude, glad it worked out 🙂

i might have missed this but where'd you end up matching/deciding?

I read they sent out that WL email to people that matched to higher ranked schools but I didn't get it haha.

I got a surprise prematch from UTSW back in December! It was always my #1 so I matched there 🙂

Yeah I matched to my #1 and had UTMB #2 and they still sent me a waitlist email today.
 
Excited for emails and updates to start rolling out so this can feel more official!! Has anyone heard anything since match day?

I'm excited for more information also! I haven't heard anything else since the initial email on Match Day.
 
If you're on the waitlist, do you receive an email saying so? I never received an email from them saying I'm on a waitlist/alternate list, but I know other schools have sent out such emails, so I'm assuming I'm not on the waitlist here haha.

This school, and several others, waitlists 100% of the applicants which they have interviewed but have not been accepted. So regardless of whether they tell you or not, you are on their waitlist. Also, whether or not they contact you has nothing to do with where you are on that list. I've heard of instances where people were accepted off of the waitlist without ever being formally informed of even being on the WL. Keep your hopes up!

I got a few emails regarding the new name and I think the week before on some info regarding scholarships and stuff...

I've requested my Uni to send the transcripts to the registrar, and I finished/filled FAFSA out to them but other than that I haven't heard anything or done much.

anyone have suggestions on apartment hunting? thoughts on roommates vs. living alone?

Yes I also would like some current students thoughts on living alone vs. finding a random roommate! I had a bad experience with this in my undergrad so I'm a little skeptical.

Also if there is prefurnished places available nearby!

Didn't match to this school, but I too am curious about roommate vs non-roommate? Is it better to have one your first year so that you feel more involved with people, or it is better to live alone for the first year while you adjust? Lol no one brought this up on my school's thread, so maybe you all will have some ideas!

literally had horrible experiences in college with roommates...like seriously, roommate, dishes don't clean themselves....

and this is why i don't know what to do- having your own space and time to be alone is important, but having someone to be around that's sociable definitely makes things much more fun and i wanna explore the city with a few med students lets get some texmex on the riverwalk!

Lol I had 2 awesome roommates soph-senior year (still live with them while I'm finishing up senior year), but when I lived in the dorms freshman year, I had the craziest girl as a roommate. One day I woke up for class ( I fell asleep before she returned to the room bc she was out) and went to our bathroom where there were 5 guys sleeping in there, all wearing very minimal clothing. I went "wtf" and then just went to a friend's dorm. We had a nice long chat afterwards about maybe not bringing home multiple men who she didn't know to our dorm.
 
Personally I'm living with roommates largely to save $$$ on housing

I am! It's one of the main reasons why UTHSCSA felt like such a good fit for me.
