*2016-2017 Washington State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I blame my neuroticism for doing this, but I compared UW's entering class facebook page with ESFCOM's facebook page and found that 4 out of the current 50 people on ESFCOM FB page are also on UW FB page; I'm tempted to believe those folks are more inclined to take UW's offer than ESFCOM's offer.

Anyways, lets have another great week of speculation and stress studentdoc friends!

You're not alone on this one... I also know for a fact that one individual on the EFSCOM page is going to UW but not part of the UW page. I hope there are more people like them! I'm excited to see what happens in the next week or two.

Any SDN'ers interviewing this week?

Good luck whoever is interviewing tomorrow!

I assume we shall know most of our fates by end of next week ...

Most likely. I wonder if they have sent any rejections this week like they did last week. Anybody hear anything?

Can anyone who has been accepted clarify whether we present a "speech" out loud to everyone during the white coat ceremony or whether it's just an oath that appears on the screen when you receive your white coat? I assumed something more of the latter

Been following the thread for a while. I'm interviewing tomorrow and staying at RL if anyone wants to grab dinner or run a couple MMI questions together.

Thanks I definitely will! On a side note though, RL was a good choice. They upgraded me to executive suite for free and I got a free breakfast because of a billing mistake. Hopefully my luck continues haha!

I wasn't a fan of the RL, it was this weird mixture of trying to be modern/remodeled, but they only did part of the work. My bathroom was dingy and straight out of the 80's, with a broken shower/tub, and a disgusting ironing board I was afraid was going to stain my clothing when I did a quick post traveling touch up. Also an applicant in my day was apparently almost poisoned by that RL - the bottle of water in their room was refilled with cleaning product and recapped and had the complimentary water tag on it.

That's not good. The only nice hotels in Spokane are the Davenport properties.

I would recommend the oxford suites as well. They are always a go to when available for me, had nothing but good expierences with them

I read a statistic that your odds of acceptance go up approximately 10,000% if you stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before you interview.

Plus they have a free breakfast. That's a win/win.

Jeez I must have had pretty low odds from the get go then 🙁... But it is a cool little castle on top of a hill though.

I had the privilege to interview yesterday and wanted to echo what a lot of people have said about the school. I had a great experience and am excited to see this school develop and become a leader in medical school education and innovation. I took some notes while Lela(sp.) was speaking and thought I would post those.

They do not have an official waitlist at the moment. I don't remember and didn't write down a time frame for that. In order to comply with the AAMC(I assume) they had to have sent out offers to fill their class of 60 by March 15. They sent all of those out but not everyone accepted those offers. We didn't get any more specifics than that but there are currently openings for the inaugural class. They will not be sending any additional offers until all interviews are complete. So at a minimum until after the two interview dates after March 15 (March 17 and March 24). The results of the MMI are screened by three sets of eyes(I assume three different people) and then are presented to the admissions committee. They currently have three more admission's committee meetings planned and hope to complete the review of applicants in those meetings. We did not receive a time frame.

So the big take away I got is that people after March 15 were not simply interviewing for a wait list spot. I assume they won't be sending any offers until those three meetings are complete, I don't know how often they meet but I wouldn't expect more than one or maybe twice in a week. So I wouldn't expect offers to sent out until at the earliest the first or second week of April.

She also said that they read SDN and use it as a resource for topics or issues they feel they need to address in official emails. Random thought, she came from Texas A&M so I wonder how much of her A&M colors she can get away wearing at WSU because they are fairly close together.

Thanks. Dr. Harrison did send an official email out a few weeks ago to us that had already interviewed which gave essentially the same info that you posted. Looks like they are consistent on the info they're giving out.

I agree that they probably won't accept anyone until the last meeting, but that doesn't mean that they won't start sending rejection this week I bet. I'm sure they've met and talked about the March 10th interviews by now

I sure hope they've talked about the January 6th interview....

Hey guys! If I am not a resident of Washington, should I even bother applying here next cycle? The website says 60 Washington residents will make up the charter class, but I'm wondering how things will be in the upcoming years.
On their website they have a list of elements you need to meet to even be considered as a nonresident. If you dont meet those I wouldnt bother. As I understand it after the first two cycles that can change but not by next cycle.

IIRC there's 4 criteria and you need to meet 3

Had a great time at the interview last week! I really hope I get to be part of the charter class 🙂

So, it looks like we will know after
My week so far:
0800: log on to student doc
0801: log into email
0802: refresh student doc
o803: refresh email.
.....
Repeat until the end of the day.
...
this is going to be a long week fellas.

The admissions meetings are usually on tuesdays, from what they said. Not sure if its every other tuesday or every tuesday. But I was under the impression that this wednesday and next wednesday are likely dates to hear back. Depends on if the three moderators who review the MMI results get everything in on time from the final interview on 3/24. I know they want to be fair and consider everyone at this point, now that the 60 offers have been made.

Don't forget the WSU Medicine Twitter and the number of current members in the Facebook group! I definitely don't have a problem...

The first step is admitting you have a problem... Hi, my name is WashingtonGrown and I'm addicted to SDN.

But yeah, if history repeats itself I think it's safe to assume people may get the call today or next Wednesday. I really don't think they will wait until after 3 more ADCOM meetings to accept a few people... Additionally, the email we received said more offers will go out "after the final interview date and subsequent Admissions Committee meeting." I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That's what I read- although its just semantics, you would think they would want offers out sooner than later. We'll see soon enough!

I have a feeling we'll hear back by next Wednesday tbh. All the interviews have to be seen by 3 different people, which may take a while. There is also the fact that ESF will be able to see what other schools the applicants have been accepted to after April 1st. That may play a factor in making a waitlist.

Nonetheless, we'll know by April 17th, according to the website.

Rejection email just now, interviewed 2/17. Best of luck to everyone here. I hope you all have a seat somewhere!

Pre-II rejection today 🙁

OOS, but strong ties to the area.

Seems like a little late to get a pre-II rejection, they finished all of their interviews a week ago. Maybe they were gonna throw you an II if they had a last minute cancelation... Good luck to you, glad to see you have an acceptance.

I was informed that no letters from applicants will be given to the admissions committee, as this would not create a level playing field for those that do not submit them.

Yes, they informed me via an email, after I asked them if I could submit a letter to them.

I contacted admissions today and they said that admissions decisions will be given by mid April. Looks like we may have a couple of more weeks of torture sdn friends
