Secondary essay is the same as previous years. "Please use this area to submit a composition of 300-500 words which reflects your reasons for desiring to study medicine, your future professional aspirations, your most significant clinical experience, and also your most meaningful non-medical experience. Please DO NOT copy and paste your AMCAS essay."

Good luck to everyone applying!

ECU undergrad here, Good luck to everyone! Hoping to get some love from my first choice school!

The MSAR says application review doesn't begin until July 17th, and the secondary application can be submitted starting July 31st. People on last year's application thread got secondaries in late June. Any idea why there's such a gap of time difference this year?

Secondary received, whats the consensus on listing all schools that you're applying to/whats the purpose?

I left it blank and will be matriculating this month. Not sure what the official opinion is on it though.

Anyone know what the verbal score for the ACT entails? Is it the average or sum of the English and Reading? Or does it also include science? Thanks!

Secondary submitted just now. Hoping for some love! I went to ECU for undergrad, and this is my #1 choice!

Complete Email received at 4:00 today (7/5)

has anybody had their status change in the portal post secondary? Mine still says "Not processed yet." I assume all my letters have been sent in from the AMCAS as well, because they have already been received and verified by other schools.

Nothing yet. Mine still says "Not processed yet" as well. From a friend entering their M1 class this year, she submitted her secondary on 7/3 and got her II on 7/13. Other friends there didn't get theirs until August.

Mine still says not processed in the portal, but I called last week and the lady told me I was complete.

My application was 100% complete in August of last year.. received an II in December.. interviewed in January... and THEN was accepted in April. Currently sitting in my new apartment in Greenville getting ready for M1 orientation tomorrow. I know it's a horrible process but keep working on improving your application as you wait! ECU always accepts update letters throughout the cycle. Good luck guys!

whatwere your stats?

First update:
As of August 1, 2017 we have .....
  • Received 495 AMCAS applications (final count)
  • Received 298 Supplementary applications (final count)
  • Interviewed 0 applicants (final count)
  • Made 0 offers
(Generally it takes 120-135 offers to fill a class)

Anybody get II or any updates via portal? Last year this time many II's had already gone out, in fact first interviews were around next week last year.

Nothing here. My portal hasn't changed yet. I called two weeks ago and they told me my application was complete, so I'm not sure. They're probably just behind this cycle.

I can understand them starting later, but I feel like some of the advantage of applying early is gone. I had felt really great about submitting the secondary at the beginning of July. I suppose they might have an order for the application review, so maybe it's not a big deal. Anyways, thanks for letting me vent.

worth applying here with 3.44/3.19 gpa/sgpa 519 MCAT and extensive research, average clinical, little volunteering. I wouldnt mind living in rural areas to provide access to healthcare, but my past experiences dont really show this- any advice on how to go about articulating this?

Your GPA is below average but your MCAT is wayyyy above average. I'm assuming you're a North Carolina resident right? If so, you should apply and you have a very good chance at an interview. Be aware that Brody does look for a commitment to primary care as well as rural care.

I called in May to ask when they start interviews and the woman I spoke to told me end of August. I am surprised no IIs have gone out yet.

Re-applicant here. From my experience Brody is really big on volunteer work, both clinical and non clinical. However, they seem to be flexible on gpa and mcat. Have you shadowed a primary care physician?

no, unfortunately not

yes nc resident, how would i demonstrate commitment to primary care without having shadowed a primary care doc? Truth is I'm interested in primary care, but my shadowing opportunities just happened to be elsewhere

Russon, I was in a similar position last time I interviewed. Not Gpa and mcat wise, my scores were closer to average, but as far as the experiences. I had a lot of research, moderate shadowing, and very little volunteer work. Since my rejection I have focused on volunteer and shadowing a primary care. If you really want to do primary care, then write about it in your application (primary and secondary). Talk about why you want to do primary care and try to relate some of your experiences to that reason. Also, if there is a reason that you weren't able to shadow primary care and/or participate in volunteer work, address that in your application too. Most importantly, if you don't get in, request a follow up appointment to see where you came up short and try, try again!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely focus on my interest in primary care more and articulate why I want to pursue it

I just spoke with someone from the admissions office. She said they haven't sent out any IIs yet, but she hopes to get some out today! Now, nobody pass out from holding your breath just cross your fingers tight!

Even if they don't come out today, that call means IIs are right around the corner! Good luck everybody!
