from what was said in the thread earlier they’re sending 50 acceptances initially. Whether that’s by 3/15 or by their last interview date who knows. But from what it sounds like the class is almost full at this point regardless.

I don't think the class is full, they've just sent out about* 50 acceptances- this does not confirm that all 50 students will end up going here, which means we can't really assume that the class is full. The initial acceptances have gone out, that is all.

Yeah that’s what I mean. They’re sending out 50 initial acceptances and waitlisting everyone else. At least that’s what the more recent interview people have been saying they were told. They predict to accept 100-150 but we won’t know if the class is “full” until April 30 when everyone needs pick one school to commit to.

Since they told us scholarship announcements would come “mid-March”, I’m assuming it will be shortly after the March 15th acceptance cut off. The timing makes sense...I just hope we hear about scholarships soon!

"By March 15 of the matriculation year, issue a number of acceptance offers at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and report those acceptance actions to AMCAS."-- This an AAMC traffic rule. If they expect a class of 50 students, then they must offer 50 acceptances by tomorrow

I have very good reasons to think there are exactly 46 accepted applicants so far. So I think but am not sure a few seats remain outright...and probably a lot of movement unless scholarships are announced soon!

I believe such "rules" are guidelines, not hard and fast rules, especially since they are starting late in the cycle. I don't know where this 46 number came from, but I'm also accepted and think the number is less. Honestly no one knows anything for certain, so I won't comment on these things anymore. Take anything you see on the internet with a heavy dose of salt. If I were you, just go to the interview, enjoy the food, meet the faculty, see the curriculum. Why would you pass up the opportunity to potentially go to medical school in south Florida? (Unless you have many other acceptances)

You have been giving advice to everyone on here as if you are part of the admission. :eyebrow:

I'm def not part of admissions.

However, often I've seen this thread snowball into what I feel is mass hysteria. Between the "Our interviewers were harder" and "Am I interviewing for the waitlist" talk, I just want to try to pump the brakes on the panic. It sucks because no one really knows their process or what they are looking for in their students since they are a brand new school.

Just think about this question: Would they really be interviewing people for the waitlist is everyone that doesn't get accepted right away is going to be waitlisted anyways??

My general advice to everyone still to interview is to practice your MMIs and just relax. I ended up doing both things and it worked out well for me. I can only provide evidence for the things that I saw, heard and believe. N=1.

Yes? That's how it works at schools who still interview after their maximum amount of acceptance been given out (aka "interviewing for the waitlist"). FSU and USF are two Florida schools that do this.

Anddd rejected right at the end.

Always next time.

Best of luck to everyone!

Any thoughts on what type of waitlist movement/ how much there will be for NSU?

People have done a lot of speculation here, but we have no real way of knowing. At my interview, they mentioned that according to talks with other schools, they think they may need to accept somewhere between 120-150 total to make their class of 50. Since they're waitlisting all but the first 50 acceptances so far, that would mean potentially pulling 70-100 people off the wait list. I certainly hope that's how it works out.

It's ridiculous how many times this has been repeated on this thread, haha.

But to add, in my waitlist email they said movement will happen beginning in April as that is when they'll start giving a "second look" to waitlisted applicants.

With no MD accepts and this being my only waitlist, I think about it a lot, too. It is a little crazy-making (at least for me) that we have no past data so we don't know what our expectations should be.

The part about reviewing candidates in April is interesting. Did you receive your waitlist email recently? Here's what mine from 2/7 said regarding the waitlist: "Waitlisted candidates are selected on a rolling basis between March and June, with final decisions being rendered on all waitlist candidates by late June."

Just an off topic and friendly reminder to all those accepted...especially if it's your first/only acceptance: don't forget to get all your vaccines and titers together! The school hasn't said anything about that yet, they're busy and whatnot, but you want to make sure you have all that stuff before school starts.

Also, congrats to all those accepted today! Can't wait to meet you all in the Fall!

To be honest it's been a while since I've looked at my waitlist email so March is probably correct. I guess that's good to hear though as it's fun to think, however unlikely, that I'd be accepted off the waitlist this month, haha. Or that any of us could be for that matter. Only wish they gave up our relative position on the list...

I know you just said there's no formal list, but have there been any hints about what they're going to require? My DO acceptances all have vastly different vaccination requirements. I live in perpetual fear that my favorite acceptance (which hasn't sent me any vaccination info yet) and/or this program, should I get accepted off the waitlist, are going to require a series I don't have, that takes more months to complete than I have before matriculation.

Just found out on 3/9 that I was going to need the Hep A series, for example. Fortunately, that school says the series can be in progress to matriculate, because I won't be able to get my second shot until September.

I really think schools ought to list this stuff on their websites under the admission requirements section, so people can have sufficient time to finish their vaccinations regardless of the timing of acceptances.

I wish we knew, too. I wonder if they're going to start stacking up all candidates against each other, waitlist and current interviewees, to make decisions pretty soon. Seems contradictory since they also said in the email that they wanted to "interview a large swath of our interview pool" before making any waitlist decisions and they're interviewing through April.

I guess everyone who's interviewed prior to whatever March date they start pulling people off the waitlist constitutes a large swath of the interview pool. That potentially sucks for those late March/early April interviewees, who won't just be competing against each other for spots if this is how it's going to work.

So all MD programs should follow the AAMC vaccination form, you can find it here: https://www.aamc.org/members/gsa/committees_gsa/cosr/437702/standardizedimmunizationform.html

Hi everyone, I am a FL resident and will be applying in the upcoming cycle. I was wondering if it's okay to apply to both the MD and DO programs at Nova? Thanks and best of luck to you all!

I wouldn’t expect them to start pulling off the waitlist until after April 30. I think us waitlisters just need to be patient until then.

My prediction is that they will need to go ~75 deep on the waitlist. Just a guess

I did. During one of the MMIs at the MD program, I was interviewed by the same person who interviewed me for DO. It was a bit awkward to be honest. I haven’t gotten the status yet. I will most likely know about the DO this week...

They are still looking at February interview groups. Should be a couple more weeks.

Has anyone heard anything about scholarship money yet? They had said we would hear back mid-March

Hello,

I apologize if this is redundant but I had a question about federal loans. From Nova's website about financial aid, it looks like federal aid/loans will be possible for this class but when I look at conversations about the other new MD programs opening this year it seems they cannot have federal loans/help because they are new. If that is the case how is Nova able to get federal loans despite their status as a new MD school. Any insight would be appreciated thank you.

They already have a well established DO school.

And a very well established undergraduate and other graduate programs (MS, PhD, JD, MBA, DDS, DO) and they're not for profit.

Just to add, 3 out of the 4 schools opening up this cycle are able to provide federal aid if they wish to as they're all affiliated with established universities. Only CalMed (CUSM) is the one school that is not able to offer federal aid as they have no other established "schools" affiliated with them (therefore requiring at least 2 years of operation prior to getting approved for federal aid). Whether the other 3 schools will offer federal aid or not is up to them (but I highly doubt they will pull a CNU who declined to offer federal aid when it was possible to do so).

Ahh ok thank you all for the clarification. The schools opening up this cycle I thought were Nova, Seton Hall, CUSM. What is the fourth one?
