I'm pretty confident they said the app was the replacement

On our interview day, they specifically said that they were discussing it and were leaning towards prosected cadaver labs (they would be pre-dissected). They were emphasizing how it saves a lot of time while still giving you the realistic anatomical representation a real cadaver brings.

The iPad app seems like it will be heavily used too though. Hopefully they deliver with the cadavers, but they made it seem like they will.

I'm pretty confident they said the app was the replacement

They told my group that our anatomy lab would be a combination of the app and dissection, with more emphasis on the app than dissection. The creator of the anatomy portion felt dissection was a waste of time basically because the body does not look or behave the same once it’s preserved, so it’s useless to spend hours looking for one little piece of anatomy when you could learn a lot more during that period of time through other methods.

wonder how many applicants are still in this situation
I emailed them on Monday since I also submitted in November with no contact since then. They responsed today and said my application is still being reviewed by the Admissions committee and I should hear from them in the next couple weeks

That's what I was told when I contacted them three weeks ago, haha.

When I emailed them on February 13th they said an app update would come in 14 business days, which was Monday so one might be coming soon.

On a serious note, trying to be as unbiased and fair as possible, What is everyone's opinion on Nova's difficulty getting back/ sticking to timelines, I have no experience with Med Schools (Especially new ones), and this kind of concerns me for the preparedness of the program if I do get accepted here. I also understand that it could be new school growing pains too tough, and that this might not reflect on the school at all.

If they offer free tuition for their inaugural class, everyone is going to go regardless 😵

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even established schools can't stick to their deadlines, so I'm not the least surprised. I would frankly be more surprised that a school actually does get back to you in the time frame they expect lolol. I am bummed by the wait for sure, but I don't really hold it against them.

As for preparedness, they already have a well established DO program, so I have no doubts that they are among the best equipped institutions to start a new MD program.

RFU said 8 weeks. It turned into almost 16+ weeks (I lost count tbh). OSHU said 12 weeks. I'm still going strong at 20+ weeks. The three week timeline was to make an initial review of your application. If you aren't a bad candidate, but weren't their first choice interview based upon a combination of scores, letters, essays etc, you are likely on hold. It sucks to be in the middle, I know, but please stay strong. As many on SDN have said, keep improving your app throughout these next few months in case you have to reapply.

I know for a fact that the admissions staff reads sdn. Trolling the school online about their deadlines isn't going to do you any favors.

I'd much rather go here than a place thats never even had a single student (CalMed). Additionally, I spoke with a few doctors that I have good relationships with. Two of them told me that they know many excellent (albeit DO) physicians that trained at NSU.

If I’m being honest I hope the admission board does read this thread as it gives them an unfiltered, anonymous glimpse into how the students truly feel about their actions up to this point.

To comment on this, they made it very clear during my interview that we have no affiliation with the DO program. Besides one biochem professor transferring from DO to MD, they’ve hired entirely new staff for the MD program so I don’t know how much will be transferred from program to program - I’d imagine not much since MD is taking a totally different PBL curriculum than DO. They had over 100 physician contribute to the MD curriculum but they made it very clear we would not have any interaction with DO’s.

Does anyone have any advice on how not to profusely sweat during this interview? I am a Maine resident, so going from a couple feet of snow to 80s will definitely be a shock to the system. Just a hunch that I'll be the guy dripping by the end of the day

They really know how to make good use of air conditioning in Florida.

Please stop by a Publix, go to the deli, and get you a Pub sub

Did anyone receive an email from the admissions team after submitting the tuition deposit?

How did everyone feel after the MMI? Anyone know how much weight they place on that compared to the PBL Team scenario/Application?

Was the pbl scenario even evaluated?
I think they added the PBL scenario recently. I interviewed in Feb and we had to go through it. My evaluator was taking notes on each of us, so im not sure if it is or not

Do you guys think it hurts your chances to ask for an updated timeline for an application decision? Getting just a little impatient

I really don’t see how showing interest would hurt, but that’s just me

Interviewed in Jan. We did a PBL

Hello everyone hope you're all doing well! Long time reader of SDN since first applying to medical school in 2015 and have had my II at Nova on 12/5 and got the waitlist letter on 12/21 and have been patient ever since! Has anyone had experience sending letters of intent to Nova, or any other school for that matter? I really would love to attend this school more so than TUCOM Middletown where I had an interview on 2/26 but wasn't sure if I should just ask for an update on my file or send them the Letter of Intent? Appreciate the feedback!

Please update on what they say!!
April 13th is the last interview and they have not sent out the last “couple” of dates for interviews. I’m assuming couple means the last 3 Fridays of their interview cycle. These will, I’m assuming, be sent out in the next two to three weeks.

So if you haven’t heard anything yet they are currently deciding on your status 🙂

II!!!! For April 6th. Kinda worried though because I live in the Northwest and I am nervous that they will have already sent out most acceptances and I will be wasting a lot of money on this interview

Congrats! Hopefully they send out more!

Same, are we interviewing for the waitlist only?
I bet we are interviewing for waitlist. I think they have to send out 50 by this Thursday according to AAMC. Its just hard to say how many will accept and attend ugh

Please please please know that the class is still not yet full. If you are interviewing then your chance is as good as everyone else!

Best of luck at your upcoming interviews!

They just need to report how many acceptances there are by Thursday, does not mean that the offers of acceptance need to end

I have very good reasons to think there are exactly 46 accepted applicants so far. So I think but am not sure a few seats remain outright...and probably a lot of movement unless scholarships are announced soon!

To all of you worrying about just interviewing for the waitlist with these upcoming interviews. The fact is no one knows how many spots are open still, and no one knows how much movement will come from the waitlist. Not even the school knows how much movement will occur yet. So if you are financially capable I would recommend you interview here as it seems like a nice program. The decision should come down to you though and if you believe your app is strong enough to snatch up the remaining spots or get high enough on the waitlist to warrant the financial strain last minute interviews can cause. Just my two cents, good luck everyone!

Reminder: Even if there are only 4 unfilled seats, that does not mean only 4 more outright acceptances. Especially since this is a new school, they will most likely give out many more acceptance instead of solely relying on the waitlist.

it was said earlier on this thread that they will only accept 50, and then pull from the wl as needed.

Initially there will only be 4 then, matter of waiting till the end of interviews

4 more open seats across several more interview days lol. Commence battle royale.

All thats truly confirmed is that they have to offer at least 50 acceptances by tomorrow. Unless theres proof that an adcom specifically said after March 15th all interview decisions will be either waitlist or rejection, anything could happen.

That’s not confirmed because they just need to report to amcas how many acceptances were offered the 50 does not need to met yet

According to another thread on here (2018 wait list movement), "By March 15 of the matriculation year, (the school must) issue a number of acceptance offers at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and report those acceptance actions to AMCAS."

So that means that by tomorrow they will technically have all 50 seats filled, or at least 50 acceptances given out. However, this does not at all account for people turning down acceptances or going other places in the future. They said (in the past anyway) they expect 120-150 acceptances to go out when everything is said and done. Seems a bit high to me but hey, I'm no expert. If the scholarships are good maybe less people with go other places but we'll see. Definitely not over for us wait-listers yet.

EDIT: As a school that opened up in November for primaries, who knows though, maybe they are exempt from this rule. I certainly know CalMed won't meet this dead line as they haven't even begun interviewing yet.

"By March 15 of the matriculation year, issue a number of acceptance offers at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and report those acceptance actions to AMCAS."-- This an AAMC traffic rule. If they expect a class of 50 students, then they must offer 50 acceptances by tomorrow

from what was said in the thread earlier they’re sending 50 acceptances initially. Whether that’s by 3/15 or by their last interview date who knows. But from what it sounds like the class is almost full at this point regardless.
