2017-2018 University of Illinois

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thankfully they moved the deadline to apply for UMED back to March 16th (for anyone in the same boat), which is pretty nice because I hear back from another school the week before so if I get in there I will just rescind my acceptance.

Just to be clear, I got this correction email from the office:

"*CORRECTION: All non-IMED program applications (UMED, GMED, CEMED) are due Mar. 1, 2018. Only IMED program applications are due Mar. 16, 2018. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,

Darren "

So UMED is still due on March 1 and you should still fill it out! Don't want you to miss your chance in case the other school doesn't work out (but I hope it does!) 🙂

So the UI COM website is under construction and I desperately need to find the school’s mission statement, can anyone help, it would be greatly appreciated!?

You can use the way back machine to view a cached snapshot of what the UIC medicine website looked like before it went down. I did the leg work though:

Our Mission
To produce new knowledge in the medical sciences, develop best practices in health care delivery, and educate the next generation of physicians and biomedical scientists committed to serving the needs of Illinois and the nation.

Does anyone know if applying for two programs, ex UMED & IMED, is looked down upon?

It says that the interviews for the curricular programs take place at Second Look on the application, so do people who got placed at Rockford or Peoria get interviewed by different faculty? It doesn’t really seem to make sense to be interviewed by people who aren’t part of the programs in Chicago but most people who are applying for UMED, GMED, and IMED aren’t going to be in Chicago for Second Look I’m guessing.

I could be wrong, but I believe you interview in Chicago if selected. Meaning you would have to miss Second Look in Rockford/Peoria. That was my understanding at least but again I'm not sure!

For imed at least it’ll be Skype interviews the week of April 9th-13th and the decisions will be made april 16th.

Any acceptances today? Two people told me they were waitlisted via email this afternoon.

Does anyone know if the February committee meeting was last week or this week? I interviewed in November and each month I've called they've said I haven't been reviewed. Would not be surprised if I've just been silently deferred, but I'm super interested in doing both UMED & PCM. I have in my interview notes that PCM deadline is over the summer, but that UMED application deadline is March 1. Did I write this down wrong? With the website being down I can't double check. But if it is March 1 does that mean everyone admitted after that date can't apply to those programs?
They meet up every 3rd Thursday.

does anyone know if its still possible for people who are assigned Peoria or Rockford to get assigned Chicago once some people drop their acceptances?

I don't know the answer to this, but my guess would be that they over-accepted seats (as is normal) and made assignments based on these larger numbers. So probs not.

Is it safe to assume that if we haven't been rejected yet and our application has been "forwarded to the screening committee" for the past few months that we are going to be rejected in the near future?

Can anyone speak on the main differences between campuses in terms of curriculum, clinical experience, etc.? Do they all pretty much share the same curriculum?

As of this year curriculum is supposed to be the same across all campuses. Main differences is in patient population, curricular programs, and seminars that each campus provides

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but during my interview last week we were told that this coming week (2/25) is the last round of interviews.

How do they do post-interview rejections? Do they come out around the same time as acceptances?

Sorry not my top choice. Really wanted to get into MCW. -_-
I guess maybe just be grateful. Some people might not even have been accepted anywhere this cycle and it’s hard to read someone complain about being accepted when they’re receiving nothing but rejections. Congrats though. UIC is a great school.

If you're in-state, UIC will be cheaper, and I think UIC would be regarded as a "better," school by most. For the value, it would be difficult finding a better school IMO. Plus, 50 thousand applicants apply for 20 thousand spots; 60% don't get accepted anywhere. It could definitely be worse.

Anyone know when we should start hearing back for UMED?

Is UIC done with interviews for this season or is there still some hope?

Does anyone have any idea what the interview/selection process is for UMED? Does everyone get an interview or if you get an interview your pretty much in?

Deciding to withdraw my acceptance. Going to retake the MCAT and apply next cycle. Good luck to those of you who are on the waitlist. Really hope one of you receive my spot.

Woah, have you talked to anybody about this decision yet? UIC is a fine school, and it's generally considered a MAJOR red flag to reapply after receiving an MD acceptance.

I would talk to advisors before making such a drastic decision.

You will be black listed from US MD programs if you do this. Really hope you didn't already do this.

This is one of the dumbest decisions I have seen on this website...and I have been here for more than 7 years.
