I did but mine said that they’d get back to me about the possibility of an interview in 4-6 weeks. I don’t think it was a promise of an interview. At least for my call

Moreover, I then got the chance to speak to Ms. Marleyn Medina (the osteopathic Admissions Counselor) who proceeded to tell me that the Admissions Committee will be finally delving into our respective applications candidly starting next week. So they can begin to send decisions in a matter of 4 weeks or so.

Do you mean they called and said you specifically will receive an interview? Or that applicants as a whole can expect interview invites in 4-6 weeks? No discredit to you at all but the former sounds a little random, although I could be wrong.

I think it was also a decision via email as well. I also received a phone call stating that they will review my material and give me a decision within 4-6 weeks! at least this was for me! idk what about others though.
 
"How did you learn about osteopathic medicine?"

Is this supposed to be an essay? there is no prompt regarding characters/words/etc... what are others doing?

I just said I live by another osteopathic school and shadowed a few DO’s. Didn’t say too much. Hopefully that’s okay

Yeah, I received the same call to confirm they have received all the materials and would let me know about whether I get an interview or not in 4-6 weeks. The call was 6/21

I think 1-2 paragraphs is fine. Basically they just want to know how you've learned about Osteopathic medicine and that you know what it is

It's basically assessing if you're a good fit for the osteopathic approach to medicine. I worked as a scribe and was randomly placed with DOs first and then MDs, so it gave me a good perspective on the differences in both. They want you to be knowledgeable of the tenets of osteopathic medicine and understand you will need to learn OMM in med school, which MDs do not learn. None of this knowledge really helps you at all once in school though. But like I said, it's about the aligning of mindsets as to how medicine "should" be practiced.
 
^ Also learned about DOs by working with them as a scribe in ED. In the secondary I would try to mention the (theoretical) differences between MD and DO, so you can show that you know what osteopathic medicine is, but the funny thing is that in all honesty, the docs themselves tell me that MDs and DOs are regarded as virtually the same in emergency medicine. They use the same systems-based diagnostic approach, have the same capabilities to put in orders, perform procedures, write prescriptions, etc, and they treat each other as equals. Take it as you will!

True, since in the emergency room you don't have much choice but to quickly stabilize the patient so the differences between allopathic and osteopathic medicine won't really shine through there, so to speak. Also, I quickly learned to never ask about degrees because it really doesn't matter. But expanding a little on my point, most osteopathic schools expect you to practice primary medicine and they want to know if you're okay with that. You might have noticed that Nova even specifically asks this question on the secondary, so that's why. Primary medicine is where the osteopathic approach can really be used to its full potential.

Ah forgot to add and agree that the differences are more apparent in primary care. I really like peds and had shadowed my former pediatrician, but from volunteering and current employment, I'm a lot more familiar with the ED, where the line is blurred. But yeah, the osteopathic approach being more distinct in areas like FM, IM, and peds is yet another reason why DO schools gauge applicants for exposure and openness to primary care.

Yeah I just said I learned about it from working with a DO for a majority of my scribing shifts. I can only see my application proof now but from what I remember, it didn't really feel like an essay prompt. I thought it was in line with the how did you hear about NSU question. If it was meant to be an essay, oops.

I literally copied what they had written there into the text box, so 10,000 to 50,000 people or whatever fits for you. I just wrote out what they wanted for the others, not making them essays really, but I indicated dates for #2 and then wrote a description like on AACOMAS and for #3 I just briefly described them like on AACOMAs as well, but tried to make sure I was adding something new that wasn't in my primary.

Alright, thanks! Yea I thought the questions were kinda just asking us to re-summarize everything on our primaries
 
Question. Nova told me that they haven't received my MCAT scores, but AACOMAS marked the scores as received about 3 weeks ago. I submitted my MCAT scores to AACOMAS after sending the primaries out so I'm not sure where to go from here...? Is the holdup on aacomas's side or is it just taking longer for Nova to receive those scores?

Did you resubmit the AACOMAS application? Perhaps they need the resubmission to send any new info, even scores.

See, the weird thing is that it won't let me resubmit the application unless I change something big like my transcript info or something, which I don't need to do.

Call them. I received a call regarding my "incomplete" application yesterday for missing LoR. I told the admissions staff that my LoRs were sent to AACOMAS and submitted to schools a week ago. Got put on hold for a few minutes, they updated my app, was complete that evening.

Maybe they can do the same regarding your MCAT score?
 
does anyone know how much weight they put into their secondaries? It seemed mostly like info from the primary app.

First SDN reported interview I saw was 7/25. Next week will mark the 4th week since I got the file complete phone call, and they said 4-6 weeks. So hopefully soon!
 
Has anyone heard about fee waivers for the secondary application. I’ve emailed them twice and have gotten no response.

Submitted my secondary and didn’t pay. Then I emailed them to make sure my fee waiver was processed also, and they got back in like a day. Supposedly everything is good to go.

I emailed them and they emailed back later the same day and waived it so I could submit without paying. I would email again or call.

I just got the "complete" call today and the guy told me they will do interview invites from 2 weeks from now all the way up until Feb/March over the phone.

I just emailed admissions and they waived it on the website. Not code or anything. I just had to email a copy of the AACOMAS fee waiver conformation.
