How can anyone plan when school A starts in July and school B (for which you’re waitlisted) starts in August! Anyone else?
I’m in the same boat. I am setting a deadline for myself on when I will call it and just go to the July school that will allow me to still find housing and give adequate notice to my landlord and my employer.

I plan to call my waitlist school mid-month to see where movement is at on their waitlist to have a better idea as well.

Regardless, I am in this crappy position because I did not demonstrate that I am committed enough or have the skills to be accepted in some way. Med schools need students committed to growth and that they will persevere in their training/career through thick and thin. Many of the students in this thread with their success are multiple-time re-applicants. There is no shame in being a re-applicant. The process is difficult and it is easy to beat yourself down. But if you are realistic about your chances, especially to all of us who did get interviews and have WL in the first place!, we will overcome the hurdles and get in eventually. Most people don't get in. There are lots of people without WL or even a chance to get in this cycle. The challenges will not end as a pre-med, med student, resident, or physician. Just keep improving and making progress.

they will still get calls either way lol. should just have a number on the website that changes to the number that was last taken off the waitlist... there @gyngyn there is your new strategy
there also wouldn’t be a bombardment of calls if schools actually kept their WL within a reasonable range, instead of 100s of students

Agreed, friend. This process is difficult. Med school will be difficult. Being a resident will be difficult. It will all be difficult— but entirely worth it. We have to learn to enjoy this journey, and ask “what is this teaching me” rather than “why is this happening to me.” We’ve got to learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

yes! I like that perspective very much. thank you
I just got another interview???? I am so excited!!!!

Make us proud!!

I’m going back and reading all the posts of how excited everyone was for May 1

We were all such poor naive bastards lol

i knew it wouldnt be a miracle day lol but i figure movement will just be slow and steady from now on. whether its all on a few days or spread through a month or two due to them being careful, it should end up being not too different from past years. yeah it sucks for me and others who start other schools but this happens to people every year.

Sorry if it's has already been asked, but has anyone emailed their waitlist choice about how they've been accepted else where? I obviously want to wait as long as possible for my top choice but I dont want to screw myself over with housing & a job for my fiance at the place I've been accepted to. TIA.

Someone was accepted off my WL school this morning.

Someone holding 10 acceptances would clearly attend here given the chance depending on which 10 schools.
Conversely, someone could be holding only one other acceptance and be extremely unlikely to attend.
It's not the number of acceptances, it's where they are holding them!

Now, we know nothing. We have a bunch of "CTE's" (who still might go elsewhere) and even more "PTE's" who could be in either of the above-mentioned categories. It's completely un-interpretable.

@gyngyn Wouldn’t a student with PTE chosen shows his other acceptances to his other schools?
At least that what I assumed, in that case why schools don’t just directly contact them and see if they’re really into their school or just withdraw so they can move on with their waitlist!

No, the system does not show where individuals hold acceptances.

This would only work for a ranked waitlist. Almost nobody has one.

So are we expecting more or less waitlist movement this year? My sole waitlist told me today that I'm in a "grey area" that they don't usually reach. Any hope or no?

@gyngyn Hofstra asks applicants through a survey where else they have been accepted. Being of an opt-in nature, this avoids privacy issues. While off-putting at first, it seems like each school would benefit from doing this.
Off-putting is right (and there is no way to know if they are accurate).

It will depend on the strategy chosen by individual schools.
At this point I am going to guess more individuals taken off waitlists (because fewer were accepted outright) but later in the cycle (because nobody really knows who's coming right now).

I sent in a LOI to school A (top choice) which hasnt had any WL movement, and told them that I would go there over my acceptance at school B even though i got a scholarship there, but I forgot to mention that school B has a CTE deadline first week of June. Do you guys know if adding this information will have any impact (i.e. speed up a decision)?

Small rant:
How do people expect us to relax or travel before school starts if one is left hanging like this, not knowing where they will attend? Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the acceptance, but this is a bit ridiculous. I get people have to adapt to whatever changes there are, but AAMC really screwed us up big time. Finding an apartment, moving, getting a car, taking care of immunizations and other required paperwork takes time to set up, their lack of organization is basically them saying they don't care about people's wellness.

Sorry needed to let this one out. Ignore if rants are annoying to you.

If you don’t mind; what school is kind enough to give this info on where you stand? ( Curious if it’s one of mine)

I know the schools say it’s not supposed to have an effect on the offer, but realistically is there a possibility submitting an AMCAS 2019-2029 cycle application hurts chances? Some schools don’t have CTE deadlines until mid-July. I would assume they’re going to pull WL applicants around this time too due to some people not accepting the offer. By that time, our AMCAS applications will have long been sent in.

I would assume adcoms understand that if you get pulled off the WL late, you probably had plans to reapply.

I’d think If anything it could help show them you still like the school and are driven to go to med school.

@gyngyn why are some school sending surveys over and over again?

My guess is that maybe a lot of people are unexpectedly dropping so they want to keep updating the waitlist?

Yes, and also I heard that adcoms can see that you CTE to them but are still on other waitlists and they can rescind your acceptance. Going off of that logic though, if the rule was to either PTE or CTE by April 30th, then lets say you're a school that your applicant was accepted but didn't PTE or CTE to, then wouldn't you then think that they aren't going to your school and therefore give their seat to someone else? I personally don't see any advantage as an applicant to not have at least PTe'ed to a school by April 30th as the rules said.
so what happens in a situation where this were to happen- a student getting off the waitlist after they've started classes? can we transfer out?

You should have withdrawn from your waitlists when you commit to a school.

my state school started accepting people off the wl before sending out the ranking they said they would send out early may???

University of Washington has had ranked waitlist for all its separate states (WWAMI) for the past 5+ years. It's so helpful.

Both of my WL threads have been mostly silent, but I think that is just because sdn users are choosing not to post on there. I have seen a few post on this thread who have also been seen on my WL threads, but not the actual school thread. Not sure why.

Yes. It wouldn't be a transfer so to speak. You would just withdraw, leaving a seat permanently unfilled if it's past orientation and you will start at the next school. Messed up, but possible with the new traffic rules.

You should have withdrawn from your waitlists when you commit to a school.

Seems like that's just a suggestion and can only be enforced if the schools require it. So weird.
