2019-2020 Albert Einstein

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
do you think this is also the case for late january interviewees?
Looking at last year's thread, I didn't see anyone with a late Jan interview outright accepted. It seems like WL --> A is the only way now.
But who knows! There is always a chance things can change 🙂

EDIT: Tried to add some hope

Is it too early to send an LOI if waitlisted here? Will they re-evaluate an application if one is sent in after already deciding?

can current students weigh in on these questions? Thank you!!

How often do people hit up Manhattan? Is it something students do on weekdays, or is it something really only possible on weekends? What do people usually do in the city? Do people go out to bars/clubs/concerts on weekends? Do people ever hit up coffee shops or libraries there?

I personally rarely go into Manhattan but a lot of my classmates go frequently (like >once a week). Some even commute from there. Its possible on weekdays, I’ve gone just for dinner before. It’s pretty easy to get into the city, I just usually find I don’t have a reason to (but I also have an SO outside the city so that’s a factor - if I’m off campus I’m probably visiting them). Lots of people go into the city to go to events like concerts or whatever. A lot of parties are on campus though because almost everyone lives here.

i'm a current student and i think last year merit scholarships were sent out via email around the end of march (~20th or something)
can you elaborate more on the types of merit scholarships? are any full tuition?

What’s the HPWL?
HPWL = High Priority Wait List
It's not official and it does not clearly stated that in the email like other schools. I only get the normal WL email and I don't have the chance to see the actual HPWL email to tell the differences. I wonder anyone (this year and previous years) got HPWL and interviewed at least two months before the first batch of acceptances sent out.

Gotcha so you don’t think we have a good chance?

I’ll probably send in a letter of interest to let them know I’d still like to attend.

Thank you so much!

How long does it take to get from your room to say around Columbus circle? Does Einstein have some sort of private shuttle or do people do public transport or Uber?

Also, what is the social life like in the towers? Do people study together/kickback/party together?

Literally just had to google Columbus circle so I'm not the best person to ask but there's an express bus (BxM10) that leaves from right outside housing and gets you to Midtown in about 45 minutes. There's a few subway stations nearby also. Einstein has a private shuttle to the hospital campuses and provides a car service to all clinical sites but for recreation or getting into Manhattan you're on your own. Ubering to Manhattan is possible but very pricey, some people will do this in a group though.

Because the vast majority of people live on campus the classes tend to be very tight-knit and social. The sense of community is real.

Is anyone having trouble choosing an interview date? I keep getting logged out

PTE doesn't start until 2/19, but Einstein indicates they want us to PTE within 2 weeks of being accepted, which is 2/17. Does anyone have any thoughts?

"I understand that beginning February 19, I should select the “Plan to Enroll” feature on the AMCAS tool, “Choosing Your Medical School,” if I think I will attend Einstein. I understand that I should do so within 2 weeks of my acceptance if accepted on or before April 30; 5 days if accepted after April 30 and up until July 15; and 2 days after July 15. I understand that I may change my decision up until I "Commit to Enroll." Beginning April 30, I understand that medical schools can see which of their accepted applicants have selected "Plan to Enroll" at their institution. I understand that I can continue to interview, hold my current acceptance offers and receive additional acceptance offers, and remain on any waitlist at any other medical schools to which I applied."

I think this implies: if you were accepted Feb 3, select PTE on Feb 19 (as soon as it's available). If you are accepted later, select PTE 2 weeks from your date of acceptance. If after April 30, select PTE 5 days from your acceptance.

But, I agree, it's somewhat unclear.

Since it says, "if I think I will attend Einstein," they probably just want people who are planning on attending to let them know by selecting PTE. You aren't required to select PTE until April 30.

Fairly short IMO. Interview first at the Physician's office, short tour, lunch, then done. Interview only lasted like 30 min and it was easy stuff. Felt like he didn't care though since we finished so early but ended up getting an A. Didn't really connect with other interviewees though
I read in the portal that the tour is "self guided," what's that like? is it confusing?

Just got an II here! So excited but my interview is all the way out at Montefiore hospital? Like 20 minute drive away? This makes me super nervous can anyone who's interviewed here that was in a similar situation tell me what it's like/how it works?

There is a shuttle that runs between Montefiore and the admission office. Mary Pace will email you a pass.

Not to burst our hopeful bubbles, but someone indicated that on last year’s thread, nobody who interviewed after January indicated an outright Acceptance.

Is it worth cross county travel to interview for the Wait List?
Not everyone who gets in uses SDN. Just because someone didn’t post about an A from an interview they had after January does NOT mean it didn’t happen.
