Congrats to all those who have received acceptances!
For you interview, were there any curveball questions or questions about ethics in general?

Honestly no, I only had one ethics question and it was easier than what I had in my mock interview. The interviews were pretty laid back for the most part, everyone was really nice!

First acceptance of the cycle:soexcited: Interviewed on one of the dates in August
I am interviewing in 2 days and I was just curious how the overall feel of the interview day was? and what were your impression of the school??

Interview day was rather relaxed; I prefer MMIs to traditionals so it was probably the least relaxed interview I've had so far just because of my personal comfort zone, but it was honestly a fun day and I learned a lot about the school. Everyone I met was incredibly nice and genuinely excited to have us there. I think you will enjoy the interview day 🙂

Thank you so much for your feedback! That has what I have heard from most people, but it definitely helps the nerves to hear the emphasis placed on how relaxed it was!! Do you think you will end up going to VCOM? Or did it impress you enough to heavily consider?

I honestly think it's too early in the cycle for me to say where I think I'll end up going, but I am certainly considering it. I like its mission and the philosophy of osteopathic medicine itself, but again, definitely too early to say - all of the other schools that I've interviewed at have been impressive as well. However, the alum that I know from this school have gone on to do amazing things and gotten super competitive residencies (in regards to both field and location), so I'm happy to have it as an option🙂

I absolutely loved interview day. The faculty and staff are the nicest people ever. I interviewed with three amazing faculty who took a genuine interest into who I am. It was extremely laid back but productive. I felt that there was ample opportunity to express who I am and why I wanted to attend VCOM.

Question, when you go to the Interview tab on your secondary application portal, there is a "upload photo" tab, when I click on it it redirects me to the login page of my portal and I am never able to access that... anyone else having this issue?

Admissions told me to not worry about the photo!

did you have a DO letter?
i am struggling to find a DO doctor I can shadow. I called 13 offices and they all said no
Are you from VA? If so reach out to VCOM and ask if they can put you in touch. DO the same with other DO schools. USe them as a resource.

ok i like this idea. I will try this tomorrow!
I am not from VA but there are two DO schools in my state. I will call them and ask.

Do this -- its your best shot. Cold calling almost never works, but if you say the school told them to contact you, you have a better shot. Also ask the MD's youve shadowed if they have DO buddies.

yes I had one! but you are not required to have one unless accepted. they say thirty days but they said they were flexible

You don't need a DO letter to apply. You can have an MD letter or no physician letter. You just need a DO letter if you are accepted.

Got that big R today :/ Not too bummed since I'm looking for an MD acceptance at this point, but still wondering why I got the R. Maybe I just wasn't a good fit? Who knows.

What were you stats if you don't mind sharing?

I interviewed 8/26, I thought it went fine, maybe I was a little shaky on talking about osteopathic medicine lol

MCAT: 510, cGPA: 3.69, sGPA: 3.71

i wish you good luck in other ventures. also, if it’s not too much of a hassle, can you elaborate on that part? did you not show interest in osteopathic medicine?

Ahhhh okay so it took them about 3 weeks to let you know their decision?

Yeah, they may have been able to tell I wasn’t all that into the OMM, I honestly have a preference for MD so maybe that showed through.

And yep, they said in general they would get back to us in 2 weeks and 4 weeks was the max.

Good luck everyone else!

Yeah i mean this in a nice way but they want people that are excited about osteopathic medicine-- at your next interview I would encourage you to focus a little more time in that respect. I would encourage you to rethink why you are applying to DO. clearly it showed through that you didn't care for it-- and I think thats a difficult approach to take given you don't have any MD acceptances yet. I mean this in a really nice way, but you cant count your chickens before you hatch. Just ebcause you "want" to go MD does not gaurantee that goal and I would hate to see you as a re-applicant just because you didn't take your DO interviews seriously.

Oh my god. Same here. I havent heard anything back still 🙁. Congrats to you!
Thank you very much. You haven't hear anything about your interview? or have you already interviewed and haven't heard back about their decision.

Havent heard anything about interview. I have sub 500 mcat but gpa is over avg. I'm from PA which is one of target states I believe.

I had a 3.7 cGPA, and a 505 MCAT. with 2 years of experience as an Emergency Department Scribe.

I went to Virginia Tech for my Undergrad and I loved Blacksburg. So it is definitely up there as one of my top schools. I loved the interview day and the facilities were nice.

Hmmm yeah I would just give it more time. I know that they have accepted people with sub 500 MCAT, and they look more at all your other experiences too. It is relatively early still so I wouldn't worry too too much.
I am not trying to sound mean when I say this, but was there no way for you to improve your MCAT score before applying this cycle?

Nope not this cycle.

I graduated. I'm working as scribe tho. I wish I could've taken mcat again but I'll see how it goes and see after.
Okay yeah same here. That is really good experience. Yeah I would just stick in there and see it out. I will be hoping the best for you!!
