2019-2020 Meharry

Wow, congratulations what are yall stats? I submitted 9/19 as well 🙂

Do all applicants to this school receive a secondary or do they screen you based on your primary application and if you pass the screening process they then send you a secondary?

are student accommodations a thing? are there any current students who wouldn't mind accommodating me? lol 🙂

So did the majority of people here not do a video interview? If you didn't did they follow up with you for an in-person interview?

If you did, did they follow up with you afterward and ask for another interview? Thanks

A video interview is part of the secondary application. It asks why you like meharry basically. This year it's not required. In-person interview is your actual interview where you have to physically go to Meharry.

Ah, I see. Yeah because the video interview part said: "this does not apply to you".

So once you fill out the questions on the secondary application and they receive it, they will then contact you for an in-person interview if they want to move forward with your application?

That's correct!!!

I was hoping to hear from the school since they mentioned a travel and accommodation email, but nothing yet. I just decided to book an Airbnb.

"Once we receive your confirmation, additional information for travel and hotel accommodations will be forwarded to you. "

I haven't recieved any information yet even though I scheduled the interview for 11/11 6 days ago. Should I just go ahead and book a flight and hotel anyways?

I was offered an interview a couple weeks ago but have since decided to withdraw my application. How have you all gone about doing that? I sent them an email saying I’d like to withdraw but a few hours later they sent me an email confirming my interview date.

Do you think there's any realistic chance of being invited for an interview invite with a sub 495 MCAT score and a cumulative GPA of 3.80 and a science GPA of 3.76?

So what should someone expect during this interview and how should I prepare?

I need some advice: I'm looking to reapply here next cycle. I plan on sitting for the MCAT again and wonder if applying early decision would help (only school I'd attend over another)?

3.2-3.3 GPA; 3.0sGPA; MCAT-->? ( should be north of 500).

Last time I applied my MCAT came back super late (like mid-September). Should I even sit for the MCAT again if I'm gunning for Meharry?

If you make a 505 mcat score or above, you don't need to do early decision, you can apply regularly and i think you'll have a shot. But be sure to apply early like when the application first opens up.

Would it make sense to apply early decision if my MCAT is 500? I see that an acceptable score is at least 495.

For the resilience question on the secondary, it appears there's no limit for the character count. Did anyone set it up as a 5 paragraph format essay or just enough words to get your point across even though it has an unlimited character count on it? Thanks

hey there! look at the MSAR report and see if there are any students that are accepted as part of early decision. Also, I would advise you not to aim for just a 500 MCAT. Honestly shoot for the moon:

1) it sets you up to have options for multiple medical schools, & possible scholarships.
2) it significantly boosts your chances of getting in since 50% of applicants have a 500 or more.
3) anything can happen on the MCAT test day. About 20 minutes before my exam I saw a car engulfed in flames in the parking lot across from my car, and had to call 9-11. My lunch fell on the floor during the break. I had to use the restroom during my best section. I could hear my heart beating throughout the final section. Point is stuff happens. Don’t let it ruin all your hard work & labour intensive studying.

best of luck!! 🙂

I have an MCAT score of 497 and a cumulative GPA of 3.7. I submitted my primary mid-July and received a secondary and submitted it the first week of October. Its been radio silence from them and idk if I have a chance to get in. Should I just start studying for the MCAT to try for the next cycle? or is there still hope that they will contact me?

You're within their MCAT range so there's still hope!

I received an II in October and sent an email to the admissions office to withdraw my application, but have yet to hear a response from them. Does anyone know how to withdraw an application?

I should mention that my MCAT score was a 492. C/P-124, CARS-121, B/B-123, P/S-124

The reason I ask is because I noticed on their FAQ section for the question "Is there a minimum GPA average I should attain before applying to medical school?" the answer is "The Admissions Committee considers a science GPA of 3.5 and an MCAT score of 498 or a 26 on the old MCAT", and if I have a 492 I don't know if its worth paying the money and submitting the secondary. Any thoughts?

Maybe this will help you make a decision. Applications are more than stats but they can get you in or out the door.

I deleted my comment previously because I didnt know if I was being a debbie downer. But I originally said a friend of mine applied last cycle and had similar stats (3.8 ish and same MCAT) and was invited to the MHS program. Likewise I have a friend with same GPA and 496 MCAT that was also invited to MHS. Idk if thats something you're interested in or not, but something to consider before paying the money I guess

When I wanted to send an update to the school, I directly emailed Ms. April E. Curry, Director of Admissions & Recruitment. Maybe you should try emailing her.

Maybe there's hope after all then.

No. I wouldn’t even be hopeful about DO schools with that score (492). A retake is absolutely needed.

Not sure if you’ve had your interview yet, but the interview day is very chill. Prepare by doing mock interviews. Be ready to talk about what’s on your app and sell yours. Be able to articulate why Meharry. (There was no MMIs on my interview date last cycle. I prepared for MMI for other schools by running through scenarios on YouTube)

I think you should talk to the school about your chances via early decision. They can best advise you. I say you retake it first and see what you get.

There’s some hope, but still study for a retake. An interview doesn’t not promise an acceptance.

Lol FINALLY received a secondary, submitted 8/14. Is it worth it to still fill it out for this school? I’m not sure how their process typically runs

I did as well. Do you mind providing your stats? I don't know if they screen secondaries.
