That is not true it says clearly on their site it can be refunded until April 30th. Medical School Admissions | Meharry Medical College

I’m just sharing what it says on the application portal...when I clicked “accept” to claim my spot, it took me to a checkout page for $1600 and on my acceptance letter it stated that it was non-refundable.

This seems odd so I’m going to wait it out. But this is all information that I got from my portal.

So I wanted to accept my acceptance but the portal is telling me to pay a non-refundable deposit of $1600...this has to be another glitch right? 😳

Edit: the decision letter says we need to make the deposit in 10 days....

10 days...non-refundable...$1600.....hm
Yes I would say this is a glitch. On interview day, Admissions said first deposit would be around $100 & refundable.

This school seems to take a while to update their website and or get the entire staff on the same page. The deposit used to be $100 and used to be refundable. I was told that this year it is $1600 and non refundable. This is their response to the change in the traffic rules since their school starts so early. Any how, I still haven’t received my deposit from last year.

I was told at another interview that all deposits should be refundable before April 30th. I can’t imagine many people enrolling early with this stipulation if I’m honest

My friend made a very good point that I agree with.

Meharry says that it's aimed at serving the undeserved. Knowing that many of their candidates come from undeserved families and neighborhoods, why would they charge such a high deposit fee. Many applicants can't afford to drop $1600 in 10 days like that.

It's really inconsistent with their mission statement and seems like a barrier that, quite frankly, I wouldn't expect from an HBCU. I know for sure that I can't afford it and neither can my parents. It's sad too, because I really liked the school

I’m trying to tell you why.

So I sent them a couple emails before my email saying I wanted to withdraw my application. I never showed up to the interview but earlier this week I got an acceptance. Yesterday they sent another email and I thought it was an updated decision letter, but it was another acceptance. Then I received an orientation email. Has anyone else had this happen to them? They never respond to my emails or answer my phone calls so I’m not sure what to do here.

Something similar last year happened. Persons who did not submit secondaries received IIs. But to offer acceptances to persons who didn’t even interview AND who have withdrawn their application... I’m done. It’s just disrespectful to those who actually want to attend the school and it’s just not professional for a medical school. We put so much work into our applications and are given such high expectations to meet, yet they do things like this. I just can’t lol

It makes me feel bad because these As could’ve gone to other people. They’ll still fill the class but it adds unnecessary stress to people waiting without As.

Hey guys. I’m applying for 2020 but on my secondary it says I do not have to complete the video interview portion. Has anyone ever had this happen before?

Yes. The video interview is not needed. No one did it this year.

Did anyone else receive an email from adcom before winter break stating that your application is “still under review” and that they would not be accepting any updates at this time??

Has anyone been able to get ahold of the admissions? I'm trying to check the status on my portal but keep getting "Accessed Denied". I emailed them on December 16th, but haven't from there. Can't seem to get ahold of anyone via phone either.
In regard to the posts above about people being admitted without interviewing...WOW. I can't with this school. Literally my heart just sank. They sent me a secondary a few months ago. Now I'm trying to send an update letter and my link isn't working either. This school has NEVER answered their phone or email for me so I'm pretty scared my updated will never be included in my application *sigh*. People who got in contact with this school, how did you do it? I'm about to send an email and call them tomorrow.

UPDATE: I figured out how to "get in". Go to the email they sent you with the link to your secondary application. Open that link. You'll get the access denied page. Then click on the Meharry logo. It'll take you to another page. then click on the "Please bookmark our portal" link under new applicants or click on " Review Your Activity" under returning applicants. That should take you to the login portal. Note that there is no place to upload application updates or LOI so I guess we're stuck emailing them. Hopefully they reply though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lizzy M score or something, it’s honestly not that important haha. Yea trust me my reaction was the same! I honestly though I’d gotten the silent R and moved on mentally lol
I thought I got the silent R but then they sent me the secondary application. I thought I was hallucinating lol.

in regard to the $1500 deposit, it says it is refundable until April 30, 2020

I ended up withdrawing because the first email they sent after accepting me back in November said that the $1600 deposit was nonrefundable and I couldn't afford it. Now apparently it's $100 and it's refundable now. I can't with this school. I'm good off it.

I understand. I almost withdrew when I initially saw the fee but they sent a follow up email with the $100 refundable deposit. I paid it but still the posts in this thread are making me seriously consider my feelings about this school

Was anyone a fee assistance recipient? At the end of the application, it asks for a waiver code. Were you just able to by pass that and submit without paying?
