2019-2020 Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM-Colorado)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If anyone else is like me and did not receive a phone call or voicemail, check your portal!

What did your portal look like? Mine changed in that the 'Interview' tab disappeared. But there isn't anything specific to my application this cycle.

My app says UT. Is it possible to move my app to the Colorado campus?

Is this school pretty IS biased? I would be interested in practicing in Colorado post residency which is why I applied, but my MCAT is not the highest either. I was complete back in early August.

Interviewed today and this school is awesome! All the students were really happy, and the staff all seem really supportive. Their step 1 median is better than half of all MD schools 😱. Hope for an acceptance in about a week!

did you interview at the UT or CO campus?
Were there any curveball questions?

Were you able to hear an updated median Step 1 for 2019? I don't recall if they shared that info during my interview

I love the positive feedback on this thread. It is making me so excited to interview here on the 30th!

It’s supposedly in the usb drive they gave us. I believe. I haven’t been able to crack it open yet

i didnt interview their (yet) but providing a USB to applicants is new. Whats in it?

I haven't looked at it yet, but I believe it contains usual things like student handbook, information regarding clinical rotation sites, some other statistics, etc. Most of this information should be available online.

Does anyone know if there is a dress code for class? What's required to wear to lecture and labs. I figure Clinical related things will all be business attire with white coat correct?

What did they tell you the average step was? They didn't tell us at my interview and I forgot to ask!

Kinda strange, the Step 1 scores are missing from the 2018 institutional snapshot:

Whereas from 2017 and back it was always listed, and I think the Step 1 average from 2013 - 2017 or so was around the 218-221 range.
Where do you even see the scores? I only see the COMLEX scores...or is that what you are referring to? If so it does show the scores from 2018. I am curious what the USMLE scores are.

Just a heads up, I interviewed on campus yesterday and my experience with the interview sounded a little more stressful than most. It was a panel of two interviewers and one of the interviewers frequently interjected during my responses and contested just about every one of my answers. I feel as if he was purposely trying to throw me off, which is not what I expected going in. I loved the campus and everybody else was extremely friendly and welcoming! Just be aware you may get stuck with a tough interviewer.

I had this exact same experience! It also really threw me off, and I walked out of the interview feeling like I'd done terribly. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who this happened to! A good experience to be aware of going forward.

So, they would just try to catch you contradicting yourself? Or, just interrupt? What would you have done differently?

Ok, I thought it was just me as well, and I felt a bit rattled when I left. At least I'm not alone. Like what was mentioned above, be aware you might not have as much of a relaxed, conversational interview as others. If you do come across this situation stay calm, take deep breaths, and maintain composure.

Don't let this school tell you that the interviews are "conversational" or "stress free" because when I interviewed, everyone that was interviewing with me had mentioned they were surprised at the difficulty. This schools interview is just like any other. Prepare accordingly.

As many have said before, that depends purely on who your interviewers are. Mine were purely conversational with no “grilling” whatsoever, and several other applicants on my day had the same experience, whereas several had more stressful interviews.

With that being said, I do agree that applicants should come prepared and not simply expect an easy interview.

Not sure if it's possible but does anyone with a interview of 9/30 willing to switch for my interview of 9/27.

Are most of you receiving II's from or near the colorado region?

There was only one person from CO in my interview group. The rest of us were from all over the place. Me and few others from CA. Some Arizona and Oregon. and also some east coast.

I'm from the PNW (accepted recently), and like half the applicants on my interview day were from Cali. Only like 2-3 were from CO. I think roughly half their students every year are from outside CO, and I'm sure that staying close to home is a major deciding factor in who ultimately decides to attend RVU later on.

Overall I wouldn't say they have any in-state/regional preference, although I'm sure those living near the school could make more compelling cases when writing "why RVU" for their secondary.

Hmm I'm thinking it must be my MCAT then for why I haven't received a II, I feel that the rest of my app is pretty well polished. Thank you for your response though!

Is anyone else having difficulty accessing your portal? It keeps showing a "query failed" message on mine and isn't really loading

Dress code for class business casual but attendance isn’t required and they allow you to wear rocky vista T shirts. You can wear jeans. OPP and PCMI lab you wear shorts and t shirt and anatomy lab you wear scrubs. Only white coat when you do practice patient encounters.

I’m not sure it’s that simple. I of course don’t know what your MCAT is. Mine isn’t the best but I still got in. Nobody can quite now what differentiates applicants in their mind. You’ll drive yourself mad wondering

Is colorado campus 'better' or different from the utah campus? still don't know what to look for (other than geographic location) when choosing the campus in the secondary application

From my interview day I recall them saying that most of the lectures take place on the CO campus, and each campus has lectures streamed in if they’re being physically taught at the other location. But overall most students end up not attending lecture anyway. Other than that there are some other minor differences such as demographics (e.g. Utah campus tends to be ~65% male, 35% female as opposed to the CO where they’re more evenly split.)

I chose CO because as I’ll be moving to school with my wife, I knew that being close to a large city was essential. But being close to Zion Park for the Utah location is definitely tempting too 🙄
