In your update email, are you supposed to provide the number of hours you've done?

Just wanted to say that I talked to Linda Goodson, Director of Admissions, at the ChooseDO Fair on 11/12 and she said that ACOM would send out a fresh batch of IIs in "7-10 days" meaning we can expect them starting this Thursday. She also said that ACOM is very receptive to update emails.

She mentioned it would be a “large batch”

Did you still get a phone call
Yes, they called OP to break their heart and waitlist them. Nah, ACOM is super nice, I don’t know of any medical school that calls for waitlists and rejections, ACOM probably doesn’t call for them.

Hi everyone! Interviewing here soon. I was hoping you guys can give me some advice. I know its open file. How was the overall interview? What questions did they ask? Any details will be helpful. Thank you in advance!!

Application specific questions so be ready for that

I've been complete since 10/2 and I know they've sent emails saying the usual 2 week turnaround time is longer but its been about 6 weeks at this point with no change in the status of my application. It's still "complete and in review". Was just wondering if anyone is also experiencing this. Thanks!

Same except I’ve been complete since late September

Hi everyone!
So the interview was conversational but I felt like there was this awkwardness as well and I felt like I startled rambling a lot and so Idk how they feel about me . I like the school a lot and now I’m nervous

If you’re interviewing this early your chances of getting in are pretty high

Ok that makes me feel better but people also got waitlisted now so that worries me
Waitlisted date does not mean they will get accepted first. what will happen is in February/march the admissions team gets together and looks at the waitlist and ranks everyone and then starts working through it that way. So don't give up hope!

Just emailed admissions for an update, been complete and in review since 10/14.

They said all students will receive an update prior to holiday break in December

Not sure if that’s like a massive update? Or II’a/pre ii holds?

Thanks for sharing that with us. I hope it's not one of those emails where the update is just about them taking longer because of of covid and the number of applications. I've been complete since 10/2 and and my application is still complete and in review. Hoping for a real update on where I stand as an applicant at this time.

Just got ACCEPTED to ACOM and I interviewed on 11/20. Yay!

But...having been also accepted to LECOM in Bradenton I am not quite sure exactly where to attend. If anyone has minor comments they can make about why they would just one over the other please make a post. I am going to make a BIG post for a ACOM vs LECOM-Bradenton later today for others to read.

Can’t say too much but i heard the bradenton campus is not that great. I also hear ACOM is one of the top 10 osteopathic schools? Might be wrong. Anyone know the rankings?

I agree with this. Anyone considering LECOM Bradenton should Google them and read the Reddit comments from current and former students. I would have gone there if I was accepted nowhere else, but having other options, I never would. ACOM looks like a great school, on the other hand.

Great and not great are subjective terms. When you say the bradenton campus is not great, in what sense are you referring? Additionally, if you mention that ACOM is one of the top 10 osteopathic schools for what? What values were used to place it in the top 10?

For example:

ACOM - First time Pass rate of COMLEX 1 & 2 have been steadily increasing but is DEVASTATINGLY SHAKY when it comes to COMLEX 2 PE. They had a 85% pass rate for 2020-2021 cycle for COMLEX level 2 PE.

LECOM-Bradenton - First time pass rate for COMLEX level 1 & 2 have been CONSISTENTLY higher for LECOM-B than ACOM in certain cases. Overall LECOM-Bradenton performs SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER in terms of first time pass rate for COMLEX board exams than ACOM

Additionally, match percentage for LECOM-B is between 99%-100% for the past 5 years with ACOM being on average 99% for the past three years. So both schools perform outstanding when it comes to match percentage.

I hope you understand what I mean by stating great vs not so great about a particular school.

I was in the same boat but ended up withdrawing my acceptance at LECOM b based on culture. I have never heard anything good about LECOM except their pass rates and felt I would be significantly happier here which would in turn make me more successful. I would just make a pro and con list and then go with your gut.

Dean Renyolds brought up the COMLEX 2 PE issue at ACOM. It turns out NOMBE changes the way they grade on specific things and ACOM has changed how they taught that concept. We will see once PE restarts after covid (who knows when that is) if the changes have been for the better, but I bet they will be. ACOM really drills in physical exam skills! Also, PE is a very subjective exam and graded very subjectively, it is arguably the least important board score.
LECOM-B is great but it seems they have some issues w/ PBL and far rotation sites ( NY/ PA area) but I do not know enough about these issues to have a true opinion. Also, I have always heard LECOM-B does not let you take the boards until you hit a certain mark on practice tests because they do not want to mess with their rates.

Can't really rank DO schools like you do MD schools. But it's generally considered that the state DO schools are better than the rest.
Another consideration is that LECOM has significantly lower tuition. Whereas ACOM's tuition has gone up 5% per year like clockwork. They started at $43k and are currently at $55k. LECOM is $36-38k after fees depending on the campus. A couple of us are miffed that despite moving to online lectures our tuition is still going up. LECOM also had something like 10% of all AOA residencies in their LECOMT program.

Unless you really wanted to live in Alabama or be close to the panhandle geographically, I'd go for LECOM especially given the recent tuition increases at ACOM.

For board exams you have to pass a COMSAE with either 500 or 550 (they're still deciding for this year) to be allowed to take Level 1. If you fail to meet the cutoff the first time you get sent to a mandatory in house 2 week lecture review course. If you fail to meet the cutoff a second time you have to take a in person board prep course at your own expense.

Very interesting points! I was curious about the strange 85% in the most recent scores. Simply put, I agree with you.
