Are they really giving out internal scholarships directly to students? Their website seems to just direct students towards the HPSP scholarship and other 3rd party scholarships. Also just found out they are a For Profit School. Seems common for DO schools now but I can't see a For Profit School giving out too many internal scholarships.

Scholarship Information The Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) is Central Florida's first osteopathic Medical School.

Yes they have, and you’re right they’ve done it for select students - Not all. My understanding it’s for select students from disadvantaged backgrounds who excel academically. They called and sent emails regarding this. But quite a few classmates have received it.

Pulling out of this school. Spoke to the financial advisor and she said it would be about 500k debt by the time of graduation, and around 750k debt after 3 years of residency. Payments estimated to be about 6k a MONTH after all of it. The loan rates were on average 10% APR.... private loans. If you flunk you are financially screwed for life
That isn’t special to OCOM, that’s most med schools, if you flunk you’re screwed. NYIT for example COA 111k, RVU 116k, ACOM 91k, Burrell 103k.

Run the calculations for 4 years and 8-9% interest depending on the year for federal loans (which increase/decrease depending on economy) you’ll likely come to the same numbers.

750k of debt is if you made no payments in residency which most doctors and financial advisors advocate against.

I will say though, federal loans >> private loans. Both accrue in school, but federal loans have a lot of govt protections - so that is something to consider. And Fed loans could theoretically have true loan forgiveness if legislation is created by an administration.
