2020-2021 Columbia VP&S

hmmm in your case I would save the intent until after your interview season! you never know if you're going to like that other school more until after you interview. I have another interview left as well, prob the last of my season, but Columbia is still my top choice by far which is why I was debating that
Thanks so much for advice! Definitely going to wait until after this interview to make any decision.

Fingers crossed 🙂

May I ask why you withdrew three app-apps post II and others before II?
With such a high LM, you might have received merit aide.
I was accepted to the med school of my undergrad institution. It is low cost, very close to home (would probably not pay rent for at least first two years) and is a place I would really like to go to in the end. My SO of 6 years is doing a masters degree at the same institution and would not be able to travel with me if I am far away. Basically I need really good reasons to move. A merit scholarship to a school of similar rank 6 hours away would in the end not make enough of a difference to be worth it especially since I would be paying 20k a year in rent anyway. Just waiting on the schools that are good enough to make moving worth it (T20s and the like)

Personal factors really. I love the city I live in currently.

Does anyone know when they release decisions, March 1st or 2nd?
If so, what’s your source?

Definitely my top choice school even over Harvard so I sent an intent letter this morning.. hoping to manifest that A! Good luck to everyone, these next 2 weeks I'm dreading but wishing you all the best

Hey everyone. Just wanted to get some feedback about an update letter situation...

I started a new clinical position in Nov and am going to include that employment in the letter. But, I am also an author on a manuscript that was just accepted for publication. I was waiting for this to happen to send a single update letter. We are waiting for proofs before the whole paper gets posted, but considering its so close to/already is nearing the end of the cycle I want to share this news. Is there advice against that? The title and abstract are already posted online and it says "provisionally accepted." I can obviously provide that link in the letter and my PI to contact if they want to confirm. My PI advised me to share it now, considering acceptance is the "key" step. But was wondering if there were opposing thoughts on this, considering it is an awkward in-between-period of time?

Thanks in advance, all. Wishing you all well as the cycle continues.

I would include both! But aren't they releasing decisions super soon? I wonder if they've already made them at this point so maybe a letter wouldn't be considered this late. Zero insight though, so maybe it can't hurt to just send anyway.
Miss all the shots you don’t take. The updates certainly won’t hurt you.

Thanks for the feedback, friends! I am going to send it. Another quick q... I am including the link to the abstract where it says my name and "accepted xxxx, 2021." I also provided my PI's contact info. Do you think I also need to attach a copy of the email notifying me of acceptance? Trying to gauge if its necessary considering it feels awkward/unprofessional to paste in a screenshot of my email..

Lol don’t include a screenshot they don’t have time to check those things or doubt you’re telling the truth

more useful to write very brief spiel about what you did and more importantly what you learned from the experience - critical thinking, teamwork, asking for help when needed, etc

Thank you! appreciate this because it is the way I was leaning already lol

Hello! I am a member of the class of 2024 and know the admissions rep personally. Additionally I am currently procrastinating studying for our exams so will respond quickly lol. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about Columbia!

Hey! Any idea on whether decisions for January interviews have already been made? I'm considering an update, but I don't know if it would have any use this close to the decision release.

I think that chances are they have already made a decision about your application, but an update never hurts. It could be a move to send it (+/- continued interest/intent) if you get waitlisted (i.e. "I am still interested and also have done XYZ to strengthen my app"). I think if you send it right now, though, it likely won't make or break a WL/R or a A/WL decision.

She's a member of our class we elected to field questions from applicants!
Are you guys hearing anything regarding whether they plan to go back to live interviews next year, given the vaccination progress and infection trends? Or has virtual gone so well that they might make it permanent, in order to make it easier and less expensive for applicants? I understand that it might premature to ask now, but, on the other hand, the next cycle opens in around 3 months. Thanks for any insight!!!

No decisions have been made, but Columbia values the in-person experience (one of the reasons I chose to come here!) so I expect if it is possible, they'll make every effort to do it.

Bassett applicants were told we would hear back in January. Any update on us? I know we’re not the main track, so no worries if you’re unsure.

If they've already made decisions on applications, why the extra two week delay? Sorry for the impatience. The wait is killing me!

Is has been mentioned that non-rolling admission schools have decided on most of their Acceptances throughout the interview cycle. It's been months of delay for many.

I see. I wonder if theyll release them at the end of this week? I saw that they did that (end of Feb) in some prior years.

BRUHHHHHH. Whoever chose the wording for that decision delay email needs to be fired. I had a heart attack. It sounded exactly like a rejection letter for the first 3 sentences.

What e-mail are you referring to? I didn’t receive anything from them recently

Was this for Bassett or regular MD?

So does this mean that no Bassett acceptances have gone out? Maybe that's the reason for the silence lol we were all frantically messaging each other "have you heard??"
I am not in the Bassett groupchat apparently 😢

Can you send a link to the thread? I'm having trouble finding it.

I was told midmarch but I hope I heard wrong lol

Some current students said they believed it would be mid-March (which is where I heard that from)

March 1 was the date listed on MSAR. In previous years, it looks like decisions have been the first Monday in March.
