2020-2021 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, there are some scholarships that you apply for through a generic form (once accepted). The deadline is april each year (thank you for reminding me to resubmit mine), but I don't know what the turnaround time is. If you're pulled off the waitlist later then they extend the deadline for you.

For people who are following this thread semi-regularly if you see the same kind of questions pop-up; help each other out, refer those people back to posts made by students. Sometimes it feels like throwing advice into the void and only reaching the one person who asked the question one time.
Do they give good need-based scholarships?

Similar to the person above, my family's "income" put me out of that need-based bracket, but they can't really contribute much because they're paying for my siblings' undergrad, and I'm a non-trad grown adult  So I can't speak on that personally; what I did receive the past two years was enough to cover rent for half a year (each). Not stellar, but not awful. I imagine if I hit the proper definition for need-based, it'd be more.

Just filled it out thanks man! Hope I have as good of luck as you did.

How can you demonstrate continued interest here as someone who is on hold and for whom this is in their top 2 school choices? Any recommendations?

anyone interview in november and still haven't heard back?
i think a lot of people are in this boat. there are still people from late october who haven't heard back, so i hope that eases your mind a little.

it's hard being patient (pun intended), but i can't imagine that trying to open a new school in the midst of a pandemic makes the job of accepting new students any easier.

Do either of you realize how privileged you are to not meet the requirements for need based financial aid...? Only on SDN can you find people complaining about how rich their parents are. Doctors' kids? 🙄
I can clearly see the pain in your words, but I think lashing out was inappropriate. I’m low income, debilitated by undergraduate loans, and will likely be suffocated by medical school debt. But that’s my business. It’s unfair to be resentful towards students who aren’t in that position (you also don’t know their lives beyond lack of personal debt.) Neither of the posters you quoted were rude or spiteful. They were just asking for support on how to navigate financial aid.

Hi
Educate yourself
You don't know the person on the other side of the screen, my personal choices, or my family.
The article specifically mentions how saving/paying for multiple children going through higher education is a factor that EFC calculations (for "need-based" financial designation) doesn't take into consideration. Specifically why I mentioned I have siblings in higher ed.

Is there typically any hold list movement for Drexel or nah. Placed on hold a bit ago and am just curious

Is there likelihood of more II's coming up/is Drexel known to II later into the cycle? Complete in July but no hold or communication as of yet...
Based in that a few comments up, someone said a lot of available dates in February there's still IIs to give out. Plus, they are generally known to have a later interview cycle from what it sounds like.
They have no rhyme or rhythm to their IIs so wouldn't worry about the complete date part of it all 🙂

Thank you! Sorry, I didn't notice the earlier post regarding dates in Feb...I know some schools are more II heavy earlier in the cycle so wasn't sure how Drexel operated. And yeah that is good to hear, surprised honestly I'm not on hold at this point but who knows maybe there will be an II...

Does the student interview actually factor into admissions decisions? Mine was very much not an interview so idk what to think

Hi! Thank you for doing this. How is Drexel handling COVID-19 vaccines for medical students?
Since the vaccine was purchased by the government, and given directly to hospitals, Drexel doesn't have control or access to the pipeline. The students have been designated essential and as phase 1A hospital workers per the state. Clinical students began getting vaccinations this week based on individual site/hospital guidelines. pre-clinical students are waiting for more news. Some sites (Tower Health) have started vaccination clinics for any healthcare professionals regardless of if they are affiliated with Tower Health or not, so some students are going that route. Students who have been volunteering as covid testers at student health, are also being vaccinated regardless of year.

The key factor is that the gov't is giving the vaccine directly to hospitals, not to schools so until the vaccine supply picks up it won't be available to pre-clinical students. All clinical, and direct-contact students are being vaccinated ASAP at their sites.

I understand! Thank you so much for your detailed answers on this thread!

Is anyone nervous about the new Reading campus? Can someone speak to this? Is the assignment totally random and can people switch?
disclaimer: not accepted here (hopefully though!)

they said during the interview that after being accepted, matriculants can submit their preference for campus location and that the school will do their best to honor those preferences (but no guarantees)

i hope that helps, and good luck to you!

So basically hope 60 opt for Reading.

What are people's thoughts on the Reading campus vs. the Philly campus? Advantages/disadvantages? I know that no one really knows how it's going to turn out. I'm wondering how things like student orgs might organize themselves, etc.

Haven't interviewed yet (end of the month! Got an II end of December, complete 8/29) so I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but...
