2020-2021 Florida State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
a quick google search will tell you that admission to the regular M.D. program requires a minimum MCAT score of 498, and an uGPA of 3.3 (unless you have a post bacc or masters to override undergrad GPA)
Thank you - I found this information yes... but I was wondering if everyone gets a secondary? my MCAT is 500+ and uGPA is a little low, but gGPA is high...

do we know if they are still interviewing?

I see ORM on this site -- what does ORM mean?
Over represented in medicine. Or you can be URM (under represented in medicine). Basically describes applicants via race or gender or sexual orientation

for the interview day, it says its 9:20am- 1pm. does that include our interviews? sorry if this is dumb im just wondering if i should call off work lol

so like if we haven't heard anything from this school by this point are we basically out of it? lol tomorrow is march 1 and that's hard for my brain to accept

Does a “complete” email come before an interview invite? I submitted secondary w/payment but never received any email other than proof of payment

I was a UF gymnast majored in applied physiology and minored in chemistry 3.76GPA then went to perform with Cirque du Soleil for 2+ years in Europe and South America and did a medical microbiology masters program through UF while touring. 3.86GPA .. Volunteer-- diabetes camp for children, HOPE's lodge for cancer patients, Balance 180 adaptive gymnastic for special needs. Shadow 3 MD's (dermatology, anesthesiology, pain management) and 1 DO family practice. Going on a medical mission trip to Costa Rica this May. Started a gluten free/grain free pastry business during Covid. MCAT is the downfall 500. Have test anxiety so feel redo not going to make a change. No interview invite.... is it over. I feel I'm holistic... also had two achilles ruptures, and back injury with surgery but rock climb now. Wish that FSU and UF would interview me. What do you think?
Replied to this via DM/conversation. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have specific questions about FSU/life as a student/etc or personal questions involving stats/etc that you don't want to share on the thread. I'll try to keep an eye on my inbox and respond when I can! Good luck to you all and keep your spirits up... interviews/acceptances this late in the application game definitely happen with FSU CoM.

My friend got an II on 3/15 3 years ago and got in. That’s my deadline for packing it up and starting my next year application
I've heard/seen current fellow students getting IIs later than that with interviews into April. Classes have historically begun for the incoming M1 class in May with the anatomy course and lab ("Foundations of Medicine I"). I'd say hope is still (to some degree) alive until the M1 summer semester officially begins (which should be at the end of May).

Out of curiosity, what’s the latest II you’ve heard about?

The latest concrete II date I've heard directly was end of March, but I have heard of people receiving acceptances into April and up to the beginning of the summer semester, so it's impossible to say exactly (I do not know when these later accepted students received their IIs). Admissions definitely interviews into April, so it's certainly possible for IIs to be given out through April as well. Sorry, wish I could give you a more definitive date, but I think it can really vary.

This definitely gives me more hope. Plus this cycle is definitely massively delayed bc of covid 19

Does FSU take people off the waitlist before May?
There should potentially be acceptances given out to the waitlist through May; leading up to and throughout May. At least there was a number of students my year (at least a couple) who received acceptances in May, maybe a few at the end of April... I believe these were off of the waitlist but hard to say definitively. And there may be more, I just do not know the acceptance stories of all of my classmates. The best way to check that though would be to look at last year’s thread on SDN.

Also, I haven’t heard of anyone joining the class after orientation begins. Orientation has typically begun at the end of May... not sure how Covid may impact the M1 summer semester start date, but I’m sure that information is available on the CoM’s website.

Did anyone not hear back after their interview when other people in your group did? I'm still holding out hope for good news but not really sure what to think 🙃

After my interview, they said we could reach out via email if we haven't heard a week after the release day they gave us.
Hmm for my group they gave us more of a 2-3 week timeline to hear back rather than a specific date. Unless I completely missed something they said lol.

that’s weird they gave a definitive date at mine too

I'll just be transparent bc I have nothing to lose at this point. I hear back on the 9th (next Tuesday) and was told to reach out on the 17th if I haven't heard anything.

They also explained their interview process. In case you missed it: they conduct interviews Fridays and Mondays, discuss those candidates on Tuesdays, and the following Tuesday the admission committees make a final decision. Decisions are typically released after the admissions committee finalizes their decision on Tuesdays.

Yeah I heard how the interview process works, I guess that is why I am so confused since we never got a date (that I know of). But I guess I will give it another week and reach out if nothing still. Appreciate your help!

I haven’t even received a complete email from the school even tho I sent all my stuff early august and received payment confirmation forthe secondary. Im just a bit disappointed bc I poured my heart and soul on that secondary and FSU still ain’t showing any love 🙁

You can probably ask for an update and they’ll tell you if you’re complete or not

For those of you that have been accepted, be sure to join the "FSU College of Medicine -- Class of 2025" Facebook page. Loads of subleases, new students in search of roommates, and med students looking to lighten our basic science textbook collections.

Im not on here much, but send me a private message if you have any questions and I will do my best to check this account a little bit more.
