Depends on what you define as a good overall app. I know some students at UNECOM who got in with low stats but they were IS applicants with well rounded EC’s and above median GPA.
I see. Yes, I meant that well rounded ECs, clinical, research, GPA, etc. Just the MCAT is sub 500. I meet their minimum but not sure if they accept people with sub 500.

Gotcha. The applicants I know scored 499 but if a score is a sub 497 then I don’t think UNECOM would look at the applicant despite a 490 minimum.

Let's hope UNECOM means it when they say they are not really putting much emphasis on the MCAT this year. (Source: another person earlier on this forum).

3.56 GPA, 507 MCAT, 2500 patient care hours, 3000 research hours, 200 volunteer. I would say fairly solid EC's. Lizzy M 64.6
Thank you! UNECOM is my top choice so I'm just trying to feel out what they're looking for.

I can't imagine them not caring about the MCAT that much. Given the volume of applicants I'd expect that the vast majority of IIs would be sent to those who are well rounded including having at least a decent MCAT. I would think a sub-501 score (which is the 50th percentile) would still hold you back here but that's just my assumption.

*freaks out from seeing interview by UNECOM*
*sees it’s another non II related email*
* feels disappointment*
*goes to SDN to express disappointment*
*sees IIs were sent out today and goes into panic on completion date*
*goes to email and sees was complete mid July and it’s probably likely UNECOM hasn’t gotten to you yet*
*relaxes with a good ol cup of coffee*
* realizes that you’re still in the fog waiting and gets suspicious*
*wonders which IPA to get to drown sorrows in when it’s an acceptable time on your coast to do so*

But seriously to everyone with IIs congratulations and to all of us waiting we got this!!

Haha of course they’ll care. But maybe just have less emphasis, like what RVU is doing. Who knows. I just want some Maine Lobstah and beer.

I've been freaking out all day about the fact that the only II I have to a school in New England (I'm from MA) is LECOM, because I'm a little attached to my family lol. LECOM would have to offer me some amazing financial aid package or have good rotations to get me away from DMU, but UNECOM definitely has a chance and I would LOVEEE an II here, especially since I got my 4th MD R (close-ish to my house) earlier haha.

Sorry if this has already been discussed (don't feel like reading 13 pages haha), but what's attracting the lot of you to UNECOM? Maine isn't, ya know, Florida or California where people are usually gunning to go for the vitamin D. The program itself isn't usually touted as one of the "if you must go the DO route, go to X, Y, Z school for best residency options." Though to be fair, I haven't looked into its rotation sites all that much... like PCOM/ATSU/MUSCOM I understand people gunning for because "original 5" and all that.

allll of that being said, I would be thrilled to go here as it does seem like a solid program and it's in new england. Just curious what everyone else's thoughts are (aside from breweries, because that doesn't count lol).

I was fortunate to visit the campus before COVID hit. It was beautiful! The admissions office is so welcoming, and I can tell the students seemed relaxed (or as relaxed as med students can be lol). I also went to undergrad and lived in Boston for 7 years so I love the New England area!

I'm from the PNW and really want a change of scenery, but I love my cold and rain. NE is basically just the older more established brother of the PNW and I've wanted to move there for years. I've heard good things about the program, particularly the anatomy, and the school and area overall just seem like a great fit for me and my family. The next competitor is LECOM but I would take UNECOM first 10/10 times. I have minimal hopes of getting into Vermont or Quinnipiac.

The NE area is definitely a hidden gem if you know where to look. I used to (practically lived) visit Kennebunkport a lot and it's an awesome place. Also fun fact I believe ME has the lowest crime rate in the US (don't hold me to that).

I want to be in the cold for a change. Also it's attached to a medical campus, which I feel provides a lot of great resources and research opportunities. Also the campus is beautiful, and I like the water.

All of these are excellent points. And yeah, as a MA resident I can attest to the fact that NE is beautiful especially this time of year, and summer is awesome because it's warm but not too warm. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something super special about the curriculum or anything. I would love to attend school with you all, btw (and you @ralphwalDOemerson just didn't quote your post)! If I get in here (first gotta get an II lol), it will be a very hard decision for sure.

In am on the same exact page! I like to torture myself by looking at this forum and see other people getting IIs lol

Personally, most of what's been attracting me to UNECOM has been via their communication: I've emailed back and forth with a current student, and I have attended their zoom meetings (most recently yesterday). I get the feeling that the students aren't gunners and are more collaborative. I'm originally from the Northeast and my first real job was in Connecticut, so I am familiar with the region (amazing Fall colors, great summers if you're close to the water, and lots of nature) and would love to do rotations not just in New England, but in NY and PA. The proximity to Portland seems the perfect balance between "not-so-close-I'll-be-distracted-by-a-city and "not-so-far-that-I-can't-celebrate-post-exam-with-classmates-by-stuffing-my-face-with-beer-and-lobster-rolls".

I'll be happy to go anywhere that'll accept me. I think that's the thinking of 99.999% of us here. Everyone keep your heads up 🙂
(he says as he goes and checks other school threads on SDN and wonders why he hasn't heard back from other schools while everyone else gets IIs 🤣)
