Exactly. It’s an anonymous forum. No one is trying to put you on blast or find out who you are or question if you’re qualified to receive an acceptance/interview. For me, when I asked it was just to gauge what Mcat score/gpa’s they are looking at right now in order to gauge where I potentially stand with the school.
I mean they do a real per-secondary screen... and their average MCAT and GPA are well bellow the national average, likely because of a true holistic review.
True, that said there are some toxic people posting here and there, tho a minority these days.
I've seen the toxic posts lol. Also those students who are like omg guys I'm facing the biggest crisis of my existence I have 520 MCAT but only 3.8 GPA and 37 years of clinical experience I don't know if I should take a chance and apply this cycle -_-

Stats can make a difference! Some schools begin by looking at applicants who scored above a certain MCAT score and/ or have a certain GPA. For example. I submitted my secondary to a school (low-tier) very late. However, I was above their MCAT and GPA average by a lot. Because of this, I earned an II almost immediately. During my interview, the prof interviewing me kept saying how great my academics are.
You are correct that that can happen. But idk i guess im just different. I feel like im not getting anything out of someone tellin me their stats when people stats be low and they still get an interview and acceptance .
You already know that by looking at MSAR though.
Right and thats why they screen out.. and its also about being realistic . You know youre definitely not getting in anywhere with under 490 cause only one do schools specifically say they screens at 490. And if you look at msar you will see the minn and highest stats every accepted and their percentiles.so i really dont see the point in asking folks. If you know they got an interview or acceptance chances are their stats were good enough. I feel like its an unnecessary way to either be nosey, or some elite type thinking “ aw no way they got into xyz with these stats when i have blah blah blah”. Just know they were good enough and their story was realistic and compelling

Somebody posted an article talking about Meharry being put on probation. There are a few articles online but they are very vague! What are some of the things the 2 students mentioned?
Meharry should move to a P/F system so students don't feel cheated when it comes to grades. Many med schools use this system and students are satisfied. I hope they can resolve these issues!

I didn't submit last week. I submitted my secondary 10/10 and got by interview invite 10 days later. Hope that helps...
Do you think it’s a bad sign if I submitted around that time and still haven’t gotten an II? I completed MHS in 2022 so I’m not sure if that’s what the issue might be.
To be completely honest, I'm not sure how that impacts the admissions process. Have you tried reading the threads from the previous years to see when the MHS students were interviewed?
You’re Meharry alumni since you graduated the MHS program. If you have questions you should be reaching out to admissions office, they already know you and should respond. Include your M number in the email or just visit the admissions office if you’re still on campus. PM me if you have any questions about who to talk to. Im a current M2 at Meharry and also did MHS. Don’t be afraid to use your connections to try and get answers on your application status. That’s one of the perks of doing the MHS program.
Sorry I’m late to this. Isn’t Meharry a private institution? So what public funding are they expecting? Also other HBCU universities aren’t on probation. I also think we should demand more quality facilities and education from HBCU. Everything don’t have to be a struggle. We shouldn’t accept mediocrity. Making excuses for them is not going to help them learn and grow. Disclaimer: I’m Canadian so I may not understand some of the issues of HBCU raised, but if after over 100 years, a school cannot offer quality education and facilities to their students or found ways to increase their endowment or solicit for funding as a private institution, then they need to step back and develop a better strategy.

I would definitely ask about the Next Step curriculum in your interview. I did. I also asked my interviewer how effective it was etc. Totally reasonable. As far as asking about probation, maybe ask current students who have posted on this thread.
Wifi and study spaces got the school put on watch? I find this unlikely....
Well this isn't the first time i heard about the wifi and study space thing. I read it somewhere online. While this might not be the only reason, those are part of it for sure. Also if students have been complaining about it for a while, i want to believe it is enough to raise a flag because these things are amenities NEEDED to succeed as irrelevant it might seem to appear. The curriculum clearly isn't the issue here

Usually being put on watch involves academics or more serious things. These first world problems such as Wifi have never been problems and I've attended community colleges and no-name universities. So it's just odd to me that the Wifi was so bad and never fixed that it rose to this level lol.
Definitely 1st world issues. I briefly read over the accrediation standards for DO schools and some of the factors included the Dean's updated CV and the square footage of specific rooms on the campus. There are a lot of technical standards, but in all fairness study space and wi-fi are very important considerations for medical students.
Tell that to Caribbean schools lol 😉
