Thank you to @C564 for sharing this year's questions

2022-2023 Mercer Secondary Essay Prompts (230 word limit each)

1. If you wish to discuss your perceptions of your academic readiness for the rigors of a medical school curriculum or explain poor grades in college coursework or MCAT scores to the Admissions Committee, please do so below.

2. What is your understanding of the practice of rural medicine?

3. Do you consider yourself to have been raised or to be residing in an area that is medically underserved or in a county that consists of medically underserved populations? By medically underserved we mean populations vulnerable to poor health due to difficulties accessing adequate health care services. This may be due to factors including but not limited to: education level; poverty; being uninsured or underinsured; lack of a usual source of care other than the emergency department; belonging to a socially marginalized group with poorer health outcomes; cultural or language barriers to receiving quality medical care; distance or lack of transportation to needed medical care. Please explain.

4. The mission of Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) is to educate physicians and health professionals to meet the health care needs of medically underserved and rural areas of Georgia. Summarize your work and learning experiences that you believe reflect congruence with this mission. Based on your understanding of our mission, where and what do you envision yourself doing after completion of medical school and residency?

5. If you wish to, please briefly explain below to the Admissions Committee experiences, attributes or qualifications you believe are unique to you that can add to the diversity of the educational environment at MUSM.

6. Please explain to the Admissions Committee factors that you could not highlight above that would help the Admissions Committee better understand your unique circumstances. If you would like to briefly highlight any substantial updates with regard to your application (example, volunteer experiences) that have occurred after you submitted the Primary AMCAS Application, please summarize them below.

Good luck to everyone applying!

For those who have received the secondary so far, are y'all ED or regular decision?

@wysdoc
Any information on the length for these essays? Last year they were 230 words each maximum

What with this notarized residency form?
Mercer does not accept any out of state students at all. They don't want to spend their time reviewing applications of non-residents, so they will ask you to prove up-front that you are a Georgia resident.

Last year's stats were 1512 applicants, 389 interviews, and 151 matriculants.
If you get to the interview stage your chances are good.

I am (and have been) verified. Regular decision. Got my secondary 6/30.

Does any one know if you need to take the Casper Exam every year?

For the EDs, any idea on when interviews begin? Last year, seems like interview invites went out late July and went through all of Aug

Called and said no need to, I guess it is case by case situation
what do you mean? It's listed as a requirement on their website.. that said, I did notice they had a CASPR score on my file (I'm a re-applicant) even though I haven't completed my CASPR for this year's cycle yet.

I was told if you have one from last cycle , they will use it and there is no need to retake CASPR exam again that is why you see CASPR score on your file. I guess the score can last for more than one cycle!!

After submitting your secondary, they should be sending a confirmation email, right? Mine is marked “application file complete”, but I haven’t received an email. Thanks!

I submitted secondaries at the end of July but I am regular decision... I am guessing it may be a while before I hear back? From what it looks like, Mercer will send out II to all ED applicants first before coming back to the regular applicant pool

Mercer Interviews ED applicants first. I believe RD interviews are every Tuesday and Thursday starting at the end of September until the beginning of February. I am sure RD interview invites will be rolling out soon!

Excellent! Mercer is my top choice, sometimes I wish I did ED so I would hear back sooner.. but for now, I just have to move forward 🙂
Received my RD secondary on 7/22 and complete on 7/28

Any other ED applicants anxiously waiting for an II? 😅 (submitted secondary 7/7)

ED applicant, received an interview invite august 10th. It is scheduled for September 6. Anyone else interview before or around the same time? Was hoping to find someone to practice with!
