2023-2024 Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (Kansas City) KCU-COM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Those of you who have interviewed already, do you mind sharing how your interview went? Was it relaxed? Is it MMI? I have mine virtually coming up and have just been preparing using SDN

There’s an NDA so can’t get into it too much, but it was a relatively chill process! I feel ok about it. You’ll do great! Just be yourself!! 🙂

Without going into too many details due to the NDA, I felt like the interview was very laid back, and everyone was very nice. Probably one of the more chill interview days I've done so far. I really enjoyed talking to my two interviewers, and aside from a few prepared interview questions, it was pretty conversational and my interviewers and I even joked back and forth a bit. Group activity was also pretty chill and was way less stressful than I thought it would be. I really got the feeling they wanted to know who I am as a person. Just relax and be yourself, and you'll rock it!

Anyone go in person for their interview and could tell me how it was being in Missouri?

I drove from WI and went in person at KC. I liked the city- I was only there for about a day but the hotel I stayed at was nice (downtown marriott). The city was pretty and had great food options! If I were to get accepted I would love to visit the area more to get a better feel, but my first impression was good!

Did you get a tour of the school?

I was invited for a pre-interview meet and greet. I emailed to RSVP but heard nothing back, is that they case for others? I’m interviewing in November. Anyone who RSVPed receive a confirmation?

I was invited to the one in Joplin on November 9th. I sent them an email today to RSVP and heard back within an hour

How did you like the medical school?

Oh shoot sorry if my message was misleading. I’m also an applicant to this school. I’ve just been to kc lots of times. I do personally know quite a few kcu students though, and have only heard good things! (other than the inherent complaints of being a medical student that people would have at any school lol)

I went last week. Go to the pre-interview event if you possibly can. Alot of the faculty that interview you will be there and its good to get on the right foot prior to the actual interview. After having a conversation with this faculty member, they said "nice meeting you, see you at the interview tomorrow." So during my actual interview it was more a conversation and we had a lot more time to talk. I personally went to Joplin and loved it. It has a very small town vibe and I was able to drive through something that seemed like downtown.

I RSVP’d for the pre-interview meet and greet a couple days ago

Has anyone heard back from the 9/14 interview ?? I know it hasn’t even been two weeks but I can’t stop myself from constantly checking my email

The wait is the absolute worst! Try to distract yourself with something is all I can say. I made myself busy with a project at home and it helped a lot. I heard back a little over two weeks after my interview but they said it could take up to 6 which would be torture. But much better than schools that leave you on read for the rest of the cycle, which I genuinely appreciate.

thank you for this!! I’m moving this week so that should keep me busy, just gotta be patient

Does anyone know if the opportunities and match rate are similar between the Joplin and Kansas City campuses?
Here is our last year's thread of all the match lists we could find, that were made public by DO schools. #1
Click on the hyperlink for each of KCU/KC and KCU/Joplin to see.

Match rate is honestly not that useful of a metric. The school (and all medical schools) count someone who had to SOAP as matched, which is technically true although not into any of the programs they applied to. As far as opportunities it's hard to say unless you can be more specific.

Was your interview virtual?

Does anybody know if we can switch our campus preference after the interview? I kinda regret putting down that I'm open to both campuses. I would much rather attend the KC campus...

Yes you can, you just need to email admissions. I did after my interview. But honestly I think Joplin is a great campus. Many of their affiliated residencies are located in Joplin, and I think students would be well positioned to get an edge if they wanted to match there.

Is it too late to apply for KSU? Also, what is the % of OOS applicants they normally accept. Thanks
