I try and give schools the benefit of the doubt, but interviewing hundreds of applicants exclusively for the waitlist is genuinely not cool.

I haven’t gotten anything yet, but I of course already know it will be a waitlist.

Nope, just the letter in the mail is the only communication I've had from them since I interviewed early November. It took them quite a while to mail it to me so I wouldn't assume it's been lost yet

No email.......... only postal mail, letter was dated Feb 11 and recieved Feb 15 for Jan 27 interview date

IS Interviewed February 18. Interviews were great, both faculty open-file. Very low stress. Kinda weird that they gave no indication of when to hear about next steps. Has anyone heard about when the next webinar is? Also, the phone number listed on their website seems to be disconnected, which seems very strange.

WL received today. I will be withdrawing immediately. As applicants, we invest significant time, effort, and resources into the process. I believe it's unacceptable to interview hundreds of candidates exclusively for the waitlist pool. This blanket approach disregards the time and effort invested by both applicants and interviewers. I strongly urge Morsani to reconsider this practice in future admission cycles.

Hard agree, it was super off-putting to see a school interviewing so many applicants for the WL. There was already lots of controversy regarding the administration, I have absolutely zero desire to go here. I hope they get their act together and start treating their students and prospective applicants better.

Also agreed. When I got my interview and saw the lack of recent acceptances alongside the massive WL waves, I decided to decline the interview. Seems like that was the right choice.

mine wasn’t so short notice but i only ended up having 1 interview and was waitlisted… it’s not your fault but i guess you only have one person advocating for you

You could have an army of adcoms advocating for you and would still likely get waitlisted given how they are acting this cycle

i’m glad that at least it wasn’t a full 9-5 interview day at least… i just had that one hour

I wouldn’t think this has significant bearing on your decision. Most are getting WL right now anyways. As long as it got rescheduled I would say you’re fine.

It is not being rescheduled though. They just said they will go off of the student interview only.

No but one of my interviewers essentially told me to hurry up because they had an important meeting coming up and wanted to leave early for it, lol.

Yeah honestly it was especially bad last yr since SELECT got canceled midway thru the app cycle and tons of ppl instantly got waitlisted without hearing anything for months. It kinda made sense to waitlist lots of ppl last yr when their seat count dropped all of a sudden, but it's pretty wack that they're still interviewing so many this year while knowing their seat count. No clue why they do so little to communicate with applicants, doesn't seem hard to send a general email talking about timelines. I will say that admin hasn't rly been a problem as a student, so not much to worry about for anyone who gets accepted. There was a decent amount of WL movement last yr from like March-May (and a bit in June/July) so a bunch of y'all who're on it rn will probably still get in

+1 IS II, however I will be declining the interview after becoming more informed about the WL tactics being used in addition to the lack of clarity regarding time when selecting the date. Very strange and unprofessional approach. Best of luck to those on the WL!

They don’t record it unfortunately, but you can ask if they have any more after this one.

How much do we think this affects USF specifically given they're already H/HP/P/F?

My perspective on the grading is that it won't make too big of a difference either way. Even at most P/F schools, you are ranked internally and that ranking will be sent to PDs when you apply to residency. Graded scales are just more transparent about exactly where you stand. I believe only a few schools like Mayo and Yale do true un-ranked.
