2024-2025 South Florida (Morsani)

I’m instate with an A. At second look a couple weeks ago, it may have been 2/5 of the accepted students were instate. I don’t know exactly, and this number may be high since it was an event in Florida.
Please tell about the second look day for ppl who are on waitlist and may get an A eventually.

We got to tour the new building, but none of the sim lab or anything. The building is really nice with amazing study rooms that have great views looking over the bay. My biggest takeaway from it was the overall happiness seen in the students. They seemed to love going to school there and expressed how many opportunities they had with Tampa General and all of the community programs in Tampa. In their words “You will never really be told no” when it comes to ideas or opportunities you want to pursue. If research is your thing, they had limitless opportunities with some people traveling abroad during the summer. I was really impressed. They explained that they have good prep for competitive residency—some MS1s already got some really great experience in surgery.

Wow, super interesting to hear! I am honestly surprised considering the mess that admissions has seemed to be this year

sounds great! Did you notice anything less than ideal? Did the current students say anything about how they like the grading scale?

Does anyone know if they would accept an update letter now? Or a letter of interest with updates? From what I see, it looks like only a letter of intent is accepted...

I sent a letter of interest via email and they accepted it! although I'm not sure how much of an impact it will make

Just got a financial aid package in my USF email. It did not include any scholarships yet, but they have said that Admissions can grant scholarships at any time before matriculation. Has anyone had any experience negotiating with their financial aid office before?
I also attended Second Look. I do feel like the students were happy, and I liked all of the other attendees I met. I feel like their research was being pushed HARD, which, to be honest, was not super exciting to me, but if you are considering a competitive specialty you should have zero problem finding research opportunities to support that goal. I am pretty anxious about potentially moving to Tampa, so I'm hoping there is a Discord or GroupMe made soon...

Absolutely make sure you negotiate for scholarships before accepting, hella people get good money from that (I didn't think to do it so I missed out)

Has anyone gotten their acceptance email yet? I’m still kind of scared that I dreamed it haha

I didn't get an acceptance email, but the lady on the phone said they wouldn't send it until after the letter arrives in the mail, anyway. I did get the background check email, though, and USF showed up on my CYMS tool. I keep logging into my application just to look at the little box that says "Accepted".

Hey everyone! Current M1 here. Super excited to have you guys potentially joining us very soon. Accepted students, please join this Facebook page: "USF MCOM Class of 2029" @ Log into Facebook. When requesting access, please make sure to use your @USF email, which you should have already created in order to be accepted into the group. We will post the Discord within the next few days so y'all can get to know one another, find roommates, ask upperclassmen questions, etc.

any idea of when there'll be more OOS waitlist movement?

I tried to make a Facebook account to join the group and got immediately suspended lmao. Is there going to be important information communicated through Facebook or can I just wait for the Discord?

Mandatory lectures but not everything is mandatory. You usually have to be on campus 3-4 days a week for I’d say 2 hours a day. So not that bad other than having to wake up and driving to class.

Some days it may be the whole day though, if you have doctoring or other professional sessions in the afternoon. I’d say 2 days, I’m on campus for 2 hours. 2 days, I’m there 8 to 4. Last day, not there at all.

Thanks. What's the penalty for missing mandatory lectures? I really don't do very well listening in lecture and would much rather watch it at 2x speed later, so I'm thinking if I have to go, I'll just sit in the back and do anki.

You can miss one with no penalty, 2 means you can't get honors, 3 means no commendations, and greater than 3 means you gotta meet and explain why you're missing so many. All the course coordinators are very nice in terms of approving absences if you have some sort of sickness, emergency, religious day, or car troubles. In person lectures don't work for me either but it's not as restrictive as some schools which are mandatory 9-5. Plus lots of people sit in the back and use their own resources.

Is there any limit on the number of excused absences? Like are you screwed if you get the flu and are out for a whole week?

sorry in advance if this has already been shared, but can anyone talk about their experience at second look? happy to dm about it too 🙂 appreciate it!

Hi all. I'm in quite the pickle (pun intended). I got an A+ off the waitlist last week, and have not received a financial aid package since then. I've completed the FAFSA many moons ago & had USF listed. I know it's a short turnaround time, but I can't choose this school for the PTE deadline unless I have financial aid information. I communicated as such to Morsani, but only received a somewhat vague answer back suggesting I meet with the financial aid office on my own + that merit aid isn't even considered until after CTE. Did everyone here have to contact the financial aid office on their own to get their package? And did anyone who got in off the WL last week get a financial aid package as of yet?

Congratulations on the acceptance!

I assume you have other options for you to be able to compare. “Worst case scenario” you might have to make the decision with the assumption that you would have to take out all loans. Based on that then how does it compare to your other options? Then if you were to be offered a scholarship/grant later then it’s better than the worst case scenario. .

Thanks for the responses guys. I was under the impression that maybe need-based aid for USF might be given before PTE/CTE, as I’ve seen a couple people on this thread say they’ve received a package. In either case, it doesn’t seem as though I will receive a notice by tomorrow’s deadline.

I am lucky enough to have secured an A and scholarship money elsewhere, and as I can’t bank on just maybe (??) getting aid here, I will be withdrawing my A from here (good luck to all!).

It’s a tough decision especially for those w waitlist decisions. You’re fortunate to have other options w scholarship(s)! Congrats on your success!
