For what it’s worth, it probably wasn’t anything you did. Wayne is notorious for filling their class off their waitlist and waitlist later applicants just because they don’t have the spots open. Not a fair practice to applicants but it is what it is. You’re just as deserving as everyone else so hang in there, hope you get good news.

According to Admit.org Wayne sent out 701 acceptances last cycle. The total for this cycle, as specified on their web site, has been stuck at 489 for some time.
That implies that c. 200 acceptances will be offered to those on the waitlist.
 
Some school require students to commit earlier than that. So if someone accepted wants to commit to another school that had an earlier deadline, they will have to drop out of Wayne.

I wouldn’t put too much stock into it. Personally, I was waitlisted 10 days after my interview and then accepted roughly three weeks after being waitlisted. Wayne State interviews a ton of applicants and heavily utilizes the waitlist. Keep your head up!

I submitted my secondaries in early august and haven't received any communication from Wayne. Wayne is my top choice school because I want to be close to my family. Do y'all think it would be worth it to send an update letter at this point? Is it safe to say that I'm cooked?

Edit: I'm not sure if it's relevant to my question, but I started a new clinical job and have had a couple of manuscripts published since I sent an update about another publication in September.

No reason not to; I'm not sure until when they interview, but I would say go for it. Have you gotten any of their newsletters?

According to cycletrack, there was apparently one wave of As in March and then no As at all after that last year. I'm assuming the ppl last year were comparing it to the year before, where there were like little waves of As in March, April, and May (also according to cycletrack) which didn't happen last year. I'm gon assume there shud be at least one wave of post-waitlist A offers sometime between now and July cuz it seems like they haven't sent any As (or at least any substantial number of As) since Feb.

Hopefully but they also admitted only 550 people or something close to that based on their tracker last year. The year before they admitted more than 700.

Cycle track and admit.org aren’t reliable for waitlists as people getting in rarely update those as they’re too busy trying to up and move their entire life within a week. MSAR reported 300/600 getting “off” the waitlist but those numbers are self reported by schools and definitely not accurate. Overall no way of really knowing since so much depends on who turns down the A each year.

Why wouldn’t it be accurate if the schools are self-reporting those numbers? I wouldn’t think that the schools are lying about that

Schools all have their own definition of "waitlist" including alternate, deferred, and waitlist. This skews the numbers depending on what the schools choose to count as a student getting in off of one of these lists. Wayne's waitlist is really just a glorified alternate list since they take people off throughout the year. Additionally, Wayne's class size is 290, so I think it is unreasonable to think they admit over their entire class size from the waitlist. So many students would have to turn down the acceptance from the waitlist to get that value (also it was exactly 300/600? those numbers are too perfect to be real and are estimates at best).

I agree 300/600 does sound like too much but a couple years ago they sent over 700 As while having roughly 300 seats so it is plausible. Last year seemed to be different though.

Definitely plausible, but just feels weird nonetheless. I may also just be salty and tired of this system. To me, if you waitlist that many candidates and pull that many from your waitlist just to fill your class, there is something wrong with your system and how you treat your applicants.
