Are people already hearing back about rejections post-interview? I saw two rejections on admit - one was post-interview. It kinda freaked me out because I was under the impression that they were sending rejections for interviews, but only acceptances for anything post-interview right now😅

I interviewed for both programs, OKC on 10/15 & SCM on 10/27. I got a post interview rejection on Wednesday. (OOS without ties)

I think the majority of interviewees haven't heard anything yet. It's hard to say what will happen in January, but I believe they do send out a fair number of acceptances in January based on last year's admit statistics!

i got an A (IS) today (12/12) at around 2:30pm!! LM: 65 (500mcat)

here was my application timeline:
primary app submitted around the first week of august
secondary received 8/18 and completed w supplemental app on 8/29
ii on 10/22 and scheduled 12/4

i have an upcoming interview with Tulsa-SCM, but i have to decide if i want to cancel this interview to secure my seat at OKC.

i am feeling very conflicted because Tulsa is where my home & support system is (*i have an A at OSU Tulsa by family, and proceeding w the OU Tulsa-SCM interview does not guarantee admission or acceptance) but the research opportunities at OU is what calls me to medicine.
i am very grateful to receive this offer & opportunity, and will be thinking over the weekend ❤️

If u didnt get OU tulsa would u take osu tulsa or OU okc?
 
Anyone have any info on what might be happening behind the scenes? I know they had a meeting on Wednesday and sent some acceptances today. What I’m wondering is if we can expect anything big next week since it’s right before winter break.

as someone admitted, they send us an email saying student ambassadors will be having office hours on 12/22. i assume they want a new batch of students to join in on that, so there might be something coming in before that. i went to the "office hours" held by student ambassadors earlier in november, and when someone mentioned a groupme, they said that usually gets formed 2-3 months before matriculation and that "a majority of our class hasn't been admitted yet" @KeyTrudaMan (hope that helps regarding the groupme). i hope this helps !

Is this a generic blast email sent to everyone or a targeted one sent to a select group of candidates? I tend to think the former...

A current MS1 friend of mine said that a good chunk of people did not get accepted until the final release in Jan/ feb . That is also when they will send wait lists and a big wave of rejections.

I was told the same thing. The majority of decisions will be around this time.
 
For those who chose the in-person interview and tour, was the trip worth it? I’m weighing a $500+ flight against the online interview only option and would love to know if the on-site experience changed your perspective.

What stood out as the school’s biggest 'selling points'? I’ve had a hard time finding detailed info online, so I’d love to hear your take on the curriculum (is it P/F?), the teaching hospital, and the overall vibe of the campus? Do the staff really care about their med students?

hey! you've asked some great questions. the in-person interview vs. online is up to your personal preference. the tour is more for "vibes" and consists of admin info (mostly). the campus, however, is beautiful! it's like going to school in a botanical garden.

1. the curriculum is not entirely P/F, there is an internal quartile system based on how the entire class does. ex: class avg 88, you score 90 but 25% class scored above 95, you're still in the 25th-50th percentile range despite making a conventional "A."

2. the teaching hospital is unique because they have almost every specialty you can think of in the health campus - there are also a significant amount of faculty doing research, so you can work with them on a variety of projects across many specialties and subspecialties. bonus if you're interested in pedes subspecialization, the Children's Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and has virtually every department in the hospital.

3. One thing I liked was that there is actually a LOT of information available online - down to WHEN they schedule the M3/M4 rotations LOL. Course catalog is also available online, preclinical and clinical curriculum, as well as matches by specialty dating back to 2019 (personal observation - SCM students match to some pretty prestigious residency programs for their class size)

4. Last thing I want to note is that the curriculum has changed, so I recommend taking a look at that. They revised preclinical to be 18 months (1.5 years, 3 semesters) instead of 2 years/4 semesters. They start clinicals spring M2 going into summer and fall M3. Then spring M3 is blocked off for both step 1 and step 2. Also they implemented a 4 day - 7 day break between blocks to allocate time for research (I assume?). Also you get a group every block to work on case studies with - which they then mix up for the next block to help you get to know more people. Lastly, they have switched from lecture to more so flipped classroom style and textbook based learning. They're issuing UWorld (I believe THEY provide this) to students earlier as a result. Students come to class to consolidate material and work through problems.
 
Hi! Last week I found out I got into both the OKC and Tulsa campuses. I have to choose pretty quickly which campus I want. I am leaning towards Tulsa because of the Bedlam clinic and feel like I might have better opportunities because of smaller class size (maybe less competition). Also, I do not have specific ties to either city. Unfortunately, I was only able to tour the SCM campus and will not be able to tour OKC until after my deadline, so I want to make sure my decision is not skewed on that alone. I was wondering if anyone can offer any insight or pros/cons for the campuses?

SCM is a strong program especially if you're interested in primary care (i.e. family medicine, pedes, internal medicine). Their curriculum includes a few extra classes compared to OKC track (we have electives but they're more like sub-internships or research stints). There's also a geriatrics rotation based on what they've posted online. People like the SCM class size. USUALLY smaller class size = opportunities tailored for your fit. OKC is great as well if you're interested in any specialties like surg, competitive ones that require research publications, or if you're looking to specialize heavily within medicine. They're both M.D.s and strong programs. Not that I am really advising anything, but I would personally choose based on intended career goals (specialty). They're a community medicine school after all. SCM will make you successful in that realm, and OKC in the other. However, both schools are not mutually exclusive to those goals - just better fits. Congrats on being admitted to both! Great choices!

The SCM interview is so easy. I'd recommend just reading up on community medicine on their website and some blogs, and just trying to understand basic aspects of it, like social determinants of health, health literacy, etc. Also, make sure u understand ur application cause they may ask u questions about ur community engagement and volunteering. Other than that, u don't need to prepare much because it's so laid back.

Honestly, it wasn't too bad. However, they did ask me a weird question about how if I had a superpower that could change a social determinant of health, what it would be, or something along those lines. That question caught me off guard. Otherwise, it's not too stressful.
 
Does anyone know how many people they interview for SCM? Trying to figure out if I have a chance lol
