I highly doubt that they gave 400 waitlists. They interviewed about 600 applicants last year 200 matriculated. If 400 were waitlisted that means, there are no rejections lol.

That’s why I put ~ I think the real number was closer to 300 based off last year’s SDN thread.
 
I applied last year and they didn’t reject anybody post interview- they really did put everybody on the waitlist. And publicized that there would be no movement. That’s why everybody was so mad at the system last year haha.

Do you feel like this is different this year? It seems like rejections also went out yesterday
 
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a better understanding of what it means to accept the waitlist offer for both locations? I'm conflicted if I should accept the both option or choose one location. For example, if you were to choose both and let's say you get into Tulsa, would you still be able to stay on the waitlist for OKC? Thanks!

If you get into one (for example: tulsa), then you can accept your spot at Tulsa (and are taken off the OKC waitlist). Or you can decline the seat at Tulsa and stay on the waitlist at OKC

I mean I got rejected post interview last year. I know someone this year who got ejected post interview.
 
I remember in the reapplicant workshop last year they mentioned that there would be little movement off the waitlist (I got put on the WL post-interview) and that we should prepare to reapply. Maybe things will be different this year though.

They said at the tours that the waitlist is a good place to be and that they accepted someone off the waitlist on the 2nd day of class last year, but I don't know how much I believe them because the whole process just seems very disorganized right now
 
I am also currently waitlisted at OU, and idk how much the waitlist is going to move or not considering how they had supposedly 400 waitlists last year.

I applied with a 511/3.71? Do you guys think its worth it to retake the mcat?

No your mcat/gpa is competitive..this is not always the issue, it’s if the interview score was good enough. Not saying you, but High grades don’t always mean a person can speak good. When did you interview and get waitlisted and did you interview for SCM?

I interviewed 10/30 for okc and 12/5 for scm. I'd like to say my interview went pretty well as I prepped for it a lot through current med students, residents, and even the undergrad OU career center. However, the interview panel for me consisted of only two doctors, and both of them were pretty stern with how they spoke. For scm tho, it was genuinely the easiest an interview can go as the interviews felt much more chill.

so im actually still genuinely confused on why i got waitlisted, but looking at this thread and admit.org, it seems that a lot of other people within my stat range also got waitlisted.

Im IS btw, so im not sure what bearing that has on the waitlist

I’m still waiting response to 12/14 OU/1/12 SCM. I’m already accepted to ARCOM and NYITCOM. am in state OKC. Both of my interviews went very well so we will have to see. Not sure if it helps at all, but I sent thank u letters post interview for all.

As a IS applicant, it unfortunately feels like IS matters less and less with OU

Yeah, I'm blessed to have a good handful of osteopathic acceptances. My current top choice is out of state so being on the waitlist is a tricky spot because you have no idea where you are at on that list. Could be 10/400 or 380/400 and you would have no idea. Dont think being IS on the waitlist gives much of an advantage as it had a few years ago

im IS OU undergrad too! i did hear them talk up the waitlist during the tour, and seemed to stutter when asked with their opinions on OOS apps when asked why they have started accepting more and more. best of luck!

Unfortunately I think it'll be like last year and there won't be much waitlist movement. Looking at admit.org, only 1 person got a post WL post-II rejection. It also reports that there were fewer interviews (perhaps due a larger proportion of OOS applicants on admit), but a higher total acceptance rate compared to last year. Maybe there are more elite applicants using admit this year which skews things a little, but there doesn't seem to be much indication that they were stingier with As and WLs. Two people reported that they said at one of the tour days that the wait list was "a good place to be", but I feel they probably misspoke or were being overly encouraging. Last year they gave more info about the waitlist at the reapplicant workshop, so look out for that.

yeah they're great, especially if you plan on attending OU. some things they talk about are living options around campus, typical weekly schedules, notable extracurriculars or volunteering opportunities they're involved in. sometimes they talk about what they do to study, what clinical rotations look like for them and more.
a new student groupme (linked in the latest merchandise email) was also formed at the most recent one, so its helpful to meet others before official gathering dates.

Specialty wise, I am completely undecided, but for financial reasons (loan/debt repayment) and personal/career aspiration reasons I will likely choose a non-primary-care specialty. No ties to Oklahoma at all!

If you had to choose a campus for an interest in EM, surgery, anesthesia, oncology, and other non-primary care fields, which campus would you guys pick and why? This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make lol.

the biggest things the SCM campus has to offer is the additional community health centered courses, the bedlam (free student run) clinic, and longitudinal clerkships (1 day internal med, 1 day pedes, 1 day FM... instead of 8 weeks IM, 4 weeks pedes etc.) - there are more research hubs located at or near the OKC campus, however SCM students often participate in projects hosted at the OKC campus.

the OKC campus and overall Oklahoma City area offer their own free clinics too. the class size is larger at OKC campus, so much so they're probably expanding the amount of mod rooms they have to accommodate for the larger class. not that it's totally dependent on specialty, but not being interested in pursuing a primary care specialty removes a lot of the benefits of the SCM campus unless you're generally interested in community medicine as well. surgery, anesthesia, oncology (radonc and im -> heme/onc) do somewhat require involvement in research projects. furthermore specialty interest groups are a huge thing at OKC, and the hospital system having almost every specialty under the sun helps a lot with forming connections.

if i were you i'd go with the OKC track. but it is helpful to see aspects of each school you like and maybe don't prefer as much to decide. these are just some tidbits i found out that i thought id share.
 
I heard that through the student ambassadors program you can find your position on the waitlist from some current students. Not sure if this is true or not, though, cause it says explicitly on the waitlist email that your file is sealed. Has anyone heard the same?

Some insight from last years cycle compared to this years. Close friend of mine got the A off the waitlist May 1st, interview in January. We were in a masters of biomedical science program so he applied late in the cycle, me not at all. From that waitlist per my buddy currently in MS1 roughly 40-50 current students came off WL and are now in attendance at one of the tracks. I cannot speak to the size of that waitlist but it would seem they have likely shortened the size of the waitlist for this year. I would expect to hear back by May at the earliest after all of the post interview workshops conclude. It is indeed a good spot to be and depending on the size of the waitlist there are pretty decent odds. Good luck everyone!!

Accepted off of SCM waitlist yesterday! received the call last night. I was waitlisted Jan. 15
