As an active MD waitlist seat candidate, we are reaching out to share a monthly update related to your current status.

Now that the AMCAS Plan to Enroll tool has closed and our Preview Weekends at both campuses are complete, we are able to share that OUCOM has extended a little more than 35 acceptance seat offers to waitlist candidates. Please note that extending seat offers is initially a slower-moving process due to currently accepted students still rightfully holding non-binding acceptances via AMCAS Traffic Rules.

Beginning April 30, accepted students can begin notifying AMCAS-participating schools of their final commitment decision. Each institution may opt to specify final commitment deadline dates.

OU College of Medicine's priority commitment deadline for currently accepted students is June 5, 2026. For AMCAS-participating institutions that do not have a set date, the default commit deadline for those currently holding acceptances is 21 days prior to matriculation.

Acceptance from Waitlist Process

If at any point (including now) a currently accepted student officially withdraws their application, an acceptance seat offer is then immediately extended to the next candidate. To protect the integrity of the final matriculated class, OUCOM does not release individual waitlist seat numbers.

Last year, approximately 77 students acceptedtheir seats from our waitlist and are reflected within the matriculated class. This number does not include waitlist candidates who were offeredacceptance seats, yet declined those offers.

This year's initial waitlist is approximately 275 candidates and has now decreased to approximately 230 as some have withdrawn their waitlist seats and/or have been accepted into the class.

At this time, there is potential for you to be accepted into the OUCOM MD Class of 2030 at any point preceding our July 2026 start date. While each year varies, after AMCAS opens the Commit to Enroll tool, OUCOM has historically experienced the most seat movement. Please note that significant movement will not occur directly on April 30, as that is the first date that accepted students can officially commit.

As accepted students officially commit, we will then release/remove more candidates from the waitlist, initially starting in late May, as we understand your need to plan and finalize your admission options. We will then release more (of those not yet accepted by that timeline) throughout June 2026.

Please note that this outcome will only occur in applicant cases where we are certain at that point that an acceptance seat will not be offered this year.

It is ultimately our hope to extend a seat offer your way this cycle. That noted, we strongly encourage waitlist candidates to actively plan for the possibility of needing to reapply in a future cycle. I know a lot of folks in the MS1 and MS2 classes there with hugely different backgrounds. As you surely know, this is the only MD school for the entire state, which has a lot of wide open spaces and a population that may just hit around 4.1 million nowadays. The medical school exists to serve the people of Oklahoma and even with increases, still draws mainly from an Oklahoma qualified applicant pool. The state actually has significant financial and cultural diversity that seems to get lost in the "one fits all" lumping boxes like "Caucasian" and "Black" and Oklahoma is also comprised of numerous and significant Native American Nations in a way unlike just about any other state. One can't accurately gauge diversity by what's visible and at some random preview day anywhere, regardless. Can't compare apples and oranges. Pick the school that you like best of course, assuming options, because while they are all training physicians, they will have varied missions and student populations accordingly. Is there good movement for this WL through the end of May? I have similar stats to the students with A's and received really good feedback about my interview in the Reapp workshop, now that its been a week maybe im just panicking?

Wondering this too, have a 3.57 GPA and 503 MCAT but good interview performance so I’m hoping I’ll get some good news soon
 
Congrats to all those accepted!!! Can I message anyone who was a applicant last year, and applied again this year as a reapplicant and got accepted? Looking at reapplying. I got an interview (in-state applicant) back in October and then rejected in December. Went to the reapp wrokshop in March, and was told "your interviewers saw no red flags and found you very personable" and when i asked why i was rejected vs waitlisted she said "plenty of qualified applicants get rejected each year" were the responses she told me. She also told me to retake the MCAT again so im looking at that as well.

some movement yesterday per admit.com, June 5th will be the last and biggest wave, Rejections went out last year around June 16th, in the last email they sent they said they'll start removing students by late may into June who they dont plan on admitting. From my friend in the Tulsa program, he got in last year along with a handful of others May 26th-29th. So maybe another handful next week? Would expect the last movement to be June 5th and the following days after.

nothing, any and all forums are dead too. Hopium post for ya: maybe they are waiting until the CTE passes so they don't have to do what they did last year with a bunch of offers coming off WL. They had 77 come off the WL but alluded to offering more spots and people either declined them or had already committed elsewhere, probably became problematic last year for them as they were still filling seats into/past orientation. In that case they are probably waiting to assess after the June 5th date so they can offer acceptances to people they know will accept them so they can have their class set and students organized before orientation.

this is correct! they reminded admitted students last day to commit is June 5th and after that they will be rescinding offers for those uncommitted and offering seats to students on the waitlist.
 
So according to admit, the last WL seat went out yesterday. The WL seat was in Tulsa, are those WL separate or can I mentally/ physically move on and start reapplying for school and employment?

Icl their handling of the waitlist and their communication rubs me so so wrong, especially as an IS applicant. I’m not even saying it with entitlement it’s just truly so much worse than other schools.

Yeah it’s for sure tough. Just glancing through last years forum I saw a few people upset about the WL. Hoping it’s at least better than last years lol. Also surprised that we haven’t gotten an update email in either May or June from them.

at this point its the only thing that would explain this wait, sounds like they already purged the WL and sent out R's two weeks ago and have assumedly been doing that. I can only imagine theres a handful of us left with how close orientation is.

I really hope that’s the case. When I was applying for my PhD a few years ago some schools never even bothered to reject me. At least there’s been SOME waitlist movement even if it’s a rejection
