Wow. All I can say is this school blew me away today. I am a pretty anxious person, and these med school interviews always make me nervous...but as soon as I started my first interview here I felt relaxed. For one of my interviews we mostly talked about living in New York, and not too much about my app or medicine in general (I don't know if this is good or bad?) but I just reaaaaaally loved the atmosphere of this school. I love how they are so focused on keeping the students happy (physically and mentally). I love that there is SO much to do and get involved in. You can really feel the passion that all of the faculty have for teaching, and the pride that everyone felt in the school. I love the fact that they emphasize that no one should study 24/7 and that it is important to have outside activities to do, and they really provide a lot of them. One thing I have noticed about the osteopathic schools I have interviewed at (but in particular KCOM) is that they are really focused on creating a good clinician. I could tell in the interviews they were definitely more interested in how I would interact with a patient, and where my passions are, than if I could do well on a standardized test. At the one allopathic interview I went on, the first thing out of the interviewers mouth was "so.....the MCAT...not so good huh?" I really believe that any fairly competent person could probably learn the material in med school if they put the time and effort in....but not everyone can be a good clinician, and I really felt like KCOM embraces that. They wanted to know about me, and how I communicate, and if I am a balanced person...and the interviews really reflected that. This school is really going to be hard to beat...
