So I just got an interview!! I'm so excited. I go to undergrad there and would totally be willing to show people around the town/campus. If anyone needs a place to stay I could probably house some people.

do you know when they do IS interview notifications? For some reason I'm thinking they are sent out in February.

I'm not sure, but i've been told by multiple people who are IS and go to school with me that all Alabama residents get interviews. I'm not saying this is fact...just been told by about 5 people

Riley, I've also heard that invites go out mid-February for mid-March interviews for contract students. Someone also told me that they try to coordinate the week of KY interviews with UK's spring break, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.:xf:

Also, congrats and good luck to those who have already received invites. Way to go!!! :luck:

idk how anyone concentrates on school during this part of the application cycle lol my mind is so consumed on other things when i should really be doing 500 other things (school related!!). 😀

congrats to those of you who received interview invites today! good luck!!

:soexcited:

This is so great! Anybody know how many oos they interview? I was really hoping to get an Auburn interview...I really liked the school from the website and other info.

I am finally done waiting to hear about interviews!!!!!!! (Now must start prepping/panicking for another... 😛)

Does anyone know if they are sending out another round of emails for OOS students? I have not heard anything yet. 🙁

I got an interview too! I'm OOS so I wasn't so sure how I'd fare, but yay!!

I definitely need to get some advice from you in-staters about the best way to get to Auburn and/or info about a non-seedy but still affordable hotel. I'm planning on flying.

Did anyone else have to read that email like 5 times to figure out if they'd really gotten an interview or if they were just alerting everyone as to when they would notify us about interviews? Maybe I was just pretty sure I wasn't going to get one so that's what I read into it.

Haha, I did!!! I still don't know if I've gotten an interview...but my current address is in Texas so hopefully it's just taking an extra day...and I have until Friday, right? Plus, I did my undergrad there (Animal Sci) sooo...here's hoping :xf:

Oh, and whatever you do, DON'T stay at the Heart of Auburn hotel (I think it might be associated with Days Inn now?) just...don't, haha. And the AU Conference Center/Hotel is literally across the street from campus, but it's also a little more expensive for that reason. Assuming you have a rental car (and I don't know your budget), but I would go with either of the Holiday Express Inns - the one in Auburn is really easy, but the one in Opelika can be a little cheaper, or the Fairfield-it's brand new and really nice. There's also a Hilton Garden Inn that I've stayed at that I liked. Most of the chains in Opelika, which is Auburn's sister city and only 15 or so minutes from campus are usually pretty decent (and again, sometimes cheaper). Try for anything in TigerTown (which is actually in Opelika city limits) - it has a bunch of stores/restaurants and is an easy drive to campus. Unfortunately prices are kinda hit or miss, but if you have it, AAA helps.

Good luck! I'm so excited for you! Auburn is an amazing place, so make sure you look around the main campus, too 😀

OOS and VERY surprised I got an interview. I might not take it though, but I will decide in the next 3 ish days so maybe someone else can have one. I don't want to horde.

There's a place called Auburn Suites that is super nice...all suites and condos. Its about a 5 minute walk to campus. I heard it's not that expensive for such a huge place you get. I'd look into it. I'm sure the prices are low since its not football season. There aren't hotels that are close to the vet school. You'll have to have transportation (which i'm serious guys, i'm willing to take someone if they need it!)

UGH! I don't want to wait that long!

that's so nice!!!! i wish i was interviewing with OOS! lol.

So I really wish the interview feedback for Auburn would come back 🙁

Just got a 10% off 1 night stay coupon at Tiger Suites in a coupon book today if anyone wants to have it!

Omgosh really?? That's exactly where I was looking at last night!! I don't want to take the coupon from you if you could use it, but if it's an extra or something that would be amazing!! Thanks so much for the offer!!

Haha I live about 10 minutes walk from there so there is no need for me to have a hotel coupon. I can get more than one if other people need them!! There are coupon books all over campus

Hey guys! Any news about Auburn yet - as in are they sending out further waves of invites for OOS students? I'm thinking about calling tomorrow to find out.

I'm OOS and I haven't heard anything either... *anticipation is dumb!!!*

*sheepish grin* Plus, Auburn is my the only school I applied to that requires O-Chem II and I'm taking it right now to fulfill their requirement. I'd really like to know where I stand so that I know where I will still need to take this course! 😀

80 out of state interview invites were sent out today, and also by email I believe. BUT people are already declining b/c they got in their school of choice, etc, so more invites will be sent out as people decline.
good luck!

Hmmm 1/8 chance of getting in! Not too shabby

I did call today. Like was already said - 80 interview invites sent out. Those of us who had not heard anything are in Interview Purgatory right now, basically 🙂
If there are people who decline (there was only one when I called this morning), someone else gets it... But I was told that "if you don't hear by interview week, assume you haven't gotten one" so that's kinda dumb...

Thanks for the calling! Two Questions. 1. Does this apply only to OOS only or contract states as well. 2. When is interview week?

I'm pretty sure it only applies to OOS. I heard that Alabama residents won't even hear if they get an interview before all the OOS will know if they are accepted. IS will interview in March. I'm not positive about KY residents, but I assume they will be considered more like instate students than out of state.

Interviews for OOS will be held Feb 8th-12th

Does anyone know... and this is probably a silly question, but is the tuition at Auburn $13,000 per semester or per year? Also do they require summer terms as well?? I didn't see where it specifically answered those questions on the website.

Thanks.

Has anyone actually gotten the letter yet? I got an email saying the letter is coming, but I don't actually have the letter. I need to know my date to possibly move around a test and some labs, not to mention hotel reservations.

Looks like tuition and fees are $39K/year. Yikes.

Also, I have not received my snail mail letter either. The original email didn't indicate if the letter had the interview times or a subsequent email would be sent out with the interview time? It would be nice to know our date/times...also if there is an information session the day before...as flights become increasingly more expensive and booked by the day!

Horselover, were you asking about IS tuition? If so, IS tuition is $13,400 "per 9 month academic year".

Scratch my previous post--I got the letter and have an interview on Friday afternoon, Feb. 12!

yeah, gilch! Does it say anything about other events we have to go to?

Is it pathetic that I actually haven't read the letter 😀? I had my dad open and read it ~ an hour ago. He started to read it over the phone, and then jumped to the date/time. I do remember that there are tours that leave @ 11:00 and 3:00, but I'm not sure if that is just Friday.

I have not gotten the letter yet either, but I called to get my date and time so I could start planning the trip. They were very nce, so I'm sure anyone without the letter yet could also call. I didn't ask about tours or anything though.

Got my letter! Feb 8th at 10AM. My god, am I first?

Got my letter as well. I think the tours will be offered every day that interviews are being held. I have to call and reschedule my interview (since I go to school here i'd like to see if I can not miss class). I'm sad to see that we have to bring a copy of last semesters grades since I didn't do so hot. 🙁

Ehhh just kidding....I called and they only had one other opening and i'd be running into the same problem. So my interview is Wednesday the 10th at 9 am

Sorry I keep posting so much hah. So they said that about 60 OOS will be interviewed for 10-15 positions so that means the chances of getting in could be as good as 1/4!!!

Monday the 8th at 3:00 PM 😀 Totally ripped the envelope to shreds trying to get at the letter (some of the adhesive had stuck to the map, haha). Now to attempt to track down a decent plane ticket...

Thanks flagirl2014 for the website info. I am in state so it will be $13,500 for a 9 month academic year + books. I already have a place and transportion in the area so I am not including that since my husband already pays for our house and etc. Thanks for the website link I couldn't find it!

Ah! How exciting for you guys!! On the other end of excitement (even though my interview felt like last year) I just got my clinical rotations schedule today!! Yeah!!!

If you want someone to show you around town a bit or take you to some good Auburn spots just let me know! You can PM me if you want and I can give you my number just in case.
Good luck! I'm excited for you all!

Hey Sofficat, I was wondering if I could ask you some questions?

Is there anything we should know about Auburn going into the interview that might not be on the brochure or website (or well hidden)?

What is the CVM dress code? How strictly is it enforced? I see that come up a bit in the interview feedback and in some of the old threads, so I know that there is a dress code, but I don't know details.

Do you know anything about the interview week? Are there events besides tours, interviews, ect?

Any other helpful hints?

Sure! There's not much to hide about Auburn. I'm not sure what kind of thing you are looking for, but we do terminal surgeries (which I was asked about in my interview). Uh- I can't really think of anything else that might be 'hidden' info.
Dress code for guys in shirt, tie and nice pants. For girls it varies- khaki pants and a collared shirt, dresses, skirts and nice tops, as long as it isn't too casual. You can find the info via the vet student handbook, it should be available to all online.
Interview week(s) don't have anything special going on except tours. Once you are accepted you'll be invited back for family night and open house, which is where you'll get more details as an upcoming freshman (that is held in April I believe).
Let me know if there is anything else!

I wasn't thinking "well hidden" as in not good, just not well known 🙂. More like 'Is there anything that they should be particularly proud of, but don't advertise as much as you think they should?'.

Thanks for the answers!

oh ok. Generally if a university is good at something/has something to be proud of- it's not hidden 😳)
But I see what you mean.
A lot of our professors are world renown. Byron Blagburn- parasitologist. Goes to a ton of conferences to lecture and does a ton of research. Ray Dillion- travels all around the world to lecture. Heartworm research guy (along with Blagburn). Mary Boudreaux- platelet specialist. amazing lady, discovered glanzmann's disease. works with MD's regarding coagulopathy things.
Ellen Behrend- another amazing lady, endocrine queen, VIN consultant.
Oh! The Scott Richey Research Center. Look that up. Amazing research being done there. Dr Bird and Smith work with oncology stuff and are in the process of developing vaccines.

Maybe you could just brag on some of these Auburn's peeps. They'd love that 😀

I'm a contract resident, and got the following email today:

"Interview letters will be mailed mid to late February so you don’t keep checking the mailbox.

Interview will be conducted March 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19. We will hit spring breaks when possible. Dates and times are assigned."

SO LONG!!! But at least Auburn does us the favor of keeping us updated. Kaye Storey is awesome 😀.
