These updated numbers seem about right to me. I am still curious if they refer to completed applications (with supplemental requirements) or just AACOMAS designations.
What are the stats for CCOM?

This page states 27 MCAT and 4500 applications which sounds more correct. At my interview they said GPA was around 3.6 up or down from year to year.
3.6 gpa and 27 mcat sounds about right, at my interview they said they received over 5,500 applications this year so it's pretty competitive

#2 PCOM (possibly as good as CCOM or slightly better)
DMU? I didn't think they were that good... Iowa? Eh... I declined my interview after Western said "yes." Possibly if DMU invited me to interview earlier, I would have declined my Western invite. Anyway, after declining DMU interview, I heard that their facilities were superb. I probably shouldn't choose a medical school based on the facilities, though. Clinical rotation sites seem much more important.
Before I had interview invitations, I thought that PCOM was going to be my #1 choice (reputation), followed by UNECOM (location).
In late Sept/early October, I interviewed at AZCOM, Western and KCUMB and thought that Western was the best.
My CCOM interview came in mid October, followed by UNECOM. CCOM quickly became my #1, and UNECOM moved way down my list.
I declined to interview at KCOM and DMU because neither school seemed as impressive as CCOM or PCOM and they sent me invites after I had a spot at Western. Of the five places where I interviewed, I was accepted everywhere and CCOM remained my 1st choice.
I wouldn't bother interviewing at KCUMB and AZCOM if I had an acceptance to CCOM or UNECOM at that point.
Anyway, my initially #1 choice, PCOM, didn't contact me after my application became complete in October. I presume they are not interested and at this point neither am I. So, for me CCOM is #1. This will only change if my (less expensive) state school decides to accept me.
I am actually quite excited for CCOM. I hope that I won't regret choosing them.
Does anybody know enough about the surgery rotations to help me make sense of the following? So is your surgery selective part of both of those blocks? Do you get to choose a surgery selective if assigned to the Cook County rotation?

Hey everybody - this is my first post on studentdoctor network and I'm excited to be a part of it! Like many of you, I have been accepted at CCOM amongst other schools, and am heavily leaning towards attending CCOM (My decision has to be made by Friday because that's when my $$ is due).
For those of you who ARE attending CCOM, we should get a list together (or maybe one has already been formulated) so those of us looking for roomies can get started on that - and start communication in general!
And, for those of you who have been accepted and are starting medical school this fall, are any of you getting nervous/anxious about starting this giant step towards the rest of our lives?!?!?! It's exciting and daunting all at the same time...

Hey guys--sorry I haven't been back for a few days but we had a big anatomy exam (pelvis, perineum, gluteal region, thigh, leg, foot) today and I was busy preparing.
To put it plainly, the Biochemistry curriculum is a little controversial among the students at CCOM. The curriculum is very clinically based and general, which leaves a lot of students feeling they're not prepared for the boards (for the record, many 2nd years I've spoken to feel that Biochemistry at CCOM prepares you just fine for both sets of boards). There are usually 2 workshops per week in addition to the three lectures; the first is usually a "Readiness Assurance Process (RAP)" in which you take a 10 question quiz on lecture material and problem based material first individually and then in your biochemistry group (for an individual quiz grade and a group quiz grade--its supposed to build "team-building/relationship-centered learning", which the main biochem prof's research shows is important in medicine). The second is a "Team Application Exercise" in which that same team needs to solve a generally complex and hair-splitting problem related to the same topic (for example, we were given a pedigree and asked to rank 1-5 the likelihood of it being x-linked recessive, autosomal recessive, random mutation, x-linked dominant, and mitochondrial inheritance--this is a basic example...the TAE's usually include pretty clinical material that requires a basal level of research, not to mention quite a bit of grinding of teeth as, like I said above, many of the options at times tend to split hairs). ....I should also note that it's the nature of that Biochem prof to tinker with the biochem curriculum every year...so the details I give you above will almost certainly not exactly match what you guys will have.
If you have the opportunity to take a full fledged anatomy course before you come here, I don't discourage that (though, considering we're already in what would be your guys' 2nd semester, PLEASE don't enroll in one over the summer or something just because I said that...).
Please don't waste your time trying to study anatomy because you're so enthusiastic about beginning school. That enthusiasm is great--save it for when you get here (note: even when people got here, they just started memorizing origins and insertions like it was their job. They burnt out fast with that attitude). Meanwhile, enjoy being in college, enjoy having weekends free of worry--you get the idea. Being a med student is intense but altogether not that bad...there's no reason you need to sacrifice any part of your life right now to somehow theoretically improve things your 1st year--it won't work.
The secret to anatomy will come when you actually get here--the lectures start out slow, and you think you've got a handle, maybe 2 or 3 lectures behind where you are in class (which in college is nothing). Then all of the sudden the full schedule starts, you've got 3+ more classes dumped on you, you begin anatomy lab, a week passes and you've got 6 lectures to go over. You get the idea. The key isn't to do something before you get here--it's to maintain good study habits once you do get here--while keeping that in balance with a healthy lifestyle and attitude.
I certainly haven't. To be honest, though, we can talk curriculum all we want (my goodness--people above are digging into particulars of 3rd year rotations I know nothing about...)...it's the people I've been happiest with at CCOM. I hope your guys' class is as filled with friendly, helpful, well-adjusted people as our has been.

I want to discourage this idea as strongly as I can without being insulting. To be blunt: It's a bad (read: stupid, time-wasting) idea. You'll have no idea what or how to teach yourself, you'll forget most of what you do manage to learn, and even if you do remember, you might remember it in a way that doesn't match the way our anatomy department will want you to learn it.

I recieved the secondary the day after I was verified, this was right before Christmas. You may want to call and find out what is going on with your application.

Check out the interview feedback section of this website. A lot of good info on there for CCOM. Questions vary in that they are based on your secondary and CV.

3 on 1 interview with a medical student, a physician, and a faculty member. Interviews are in the beginning part of the day so it is nice because you don't have to be dreading it the entire day during the tour and what not. Interviews usually take up about 30 minutes with 25 minutes of interview and 5 minutes where you get to ask the interviewers questions. But in terms of content of the questions you should look at the interview feedback thread for ccom on sdn.

The way the interview works is that 12 students get divided into 3 groups. Interview lasts 25~30 min (mine was 20~25 min). Each group is assigned a D.O., Ph.D. and an MS student (usually). My group only had a D.O. and an MS. On top of that the MS didn't show for my group so they sub. in an admissions counselor instead. The actual interview is 3 on 1 or 2 on 1 (depends on your luck I guess given the circumstances like I mentioned above). The other two groups had all 3 so I guess I was lucky in the sense I was less nervous (less interviewers..)..
Anyways, feel free to ask more questions. Good Luck!

Just a heads up. You might have an M.D. and not a D.O. On my panel I had an M.D., Ph.D, and an M4.
I was complete like right before thanksgiving time. I can't remember exactly.

Anyone know where most off-campus students live? Do most live in DG, or do some live in the surrounding burbs like Lombard, Oak Brook, Westmont, etc. I'd kind of like to live a little further east so getting to the city would be easier (not that I'll have time for that much).
I think a lot of students live in the surrounding burbs. The names of complexes that I've seen are Yorktown, Cityview, Brookhill, Covington, and Versailles.
it seems like renting a small house is cheaper... plus you would get a fireplace and a basement. I'm from the south so those two are things i never had or used!!

I just got a CCOM interview invite on Sunday night. I wish they'd given me one earlier as I've already sent a deposit into UMDNJ, but still...I have lots of family in Chicago and I'd still like to be near them for medical school. I think I'll go to this interview to see what CCOM is all about.
The status page says my app was submitted on 9/25.

All signs point to yes. By how much, who knows, I bet its 50K by 4th year. Hopefully an exaggeration.
I would imagine it will increase. During my interview, the admissions director (Michael Laken?) make a remark to the effect that we should expect tuition to increase this year. Here are the tuitions for the past several years, since I am bored:

Based upon the rough 2000 dollar increase the class of 2013 will have roughly $190,000 of debt for tuition alone. Can't wait!
So your telling me only 5 years ago tuition was only 31K and now its approaching 45K. What the heck is going on that's crazy. I want to get on faculty at CCOM someday so I can take advantage of that craziness.
I know, it's ridiculous. And it seems to be a common trend - my undergrad school (Case Western), for instance has seen similar year-over-year increases. In fact, about a decade ago a years' tuition @ Case cost about half what it does now.
College tuition all across the land has reached extortionary levels, IMHO. Furthermore, it seems like any sort of meaningful scholarship/grant money is rapidly disappearing..."financial aid" now seems to mean "we'll give you loans, chump".
The school is aware of this delay. Materials will be posted within the next few days.

Just wondering how long people getting interview offers this week had to wait once their file was complete? i read earlier in the thread that it was ~4weeks, just wondering if that's still the case. I had my secondary in on dec 4 but had to wait on a letter, so i think i was complete the week before Christmas (meaning if the office was closed, they might have just seen my file first week of january..)... the waiting game is killing me...

I don't know what to suggest, but just out of curiosity, how many schools are your "number 1"?
So this is the advice I received from an MS while at the interview... he apprarently was waitlisted twice and was told by another MS to write a letter of intent to Michael Laken (Director of Admissions). The very next day *BAM* he gets a call saying he's been accepted. That same MS student told his friend that was applying the year after to do the same thing (gave him his letter..his friend just tweaked it) and *BAM* next day he also gets accepted. Basically, he said to write a letter but to wait till May, I think, to write it. Hopefully, you get in before that without having to write one. I'm not sure if I would wait till May if I was in your position but it's your call. I wouldn't write it right now but prob. write it in March (IMHO).
p.s.- really try to hit the points on why MWU is such a great school to go to (not that I don't think you wouldn't but just want to remind you to emphasize) and, if you can, try to go to the mini-med school they offer every semester. They take attendence and I'm almost postive that they utilize that attendence sheet in the admissions decision.

I think it's varied. I got mine within a week of my MCAT score coming in which was Oct 18. i'd say the general consenus though is ~1 month.

Hey man I was completed per the email they send on 11/15/08 and I haven't heard a thing. I am an IL resident and I know I am a competitive applicant that has received either acceptances or interview invites to all other DO schools (PCOM,DMU,LECOM-B,KCUMB,NSU-COM) I have applied to. This is the only school that I have still been waiting on so I hope that helps you. I know some people that were completed around the same time I was just got interview invites this week so just hang tight it is going to be awhile bc of the holidays and the delays caused by that. If you have any more questions let me know.
