Tbh I'm not even sure why that role has the Alpha part in front of it because the description in the roles list just sounds like it's your standard mafia goon.

I'd be grateful for any general take-aways people who played the previous CYO's can share; I've never done a game like this and it feels pretty different from a normal game at first glance.

(I'll try and get around to reading them myself but I'm eloping in a few days and things are a bit hectic in the Stoat-True household)

Everyone did Swaps for the Anniversary game. You might notice Lawpy is April from Parks and Rec, a common avatar of supershorty’s (though Lawpy used a different April). Or that MKG is currently using Samac’s usual avatar.

It’s a hell of a gambit for a wolf/mafia to claim to avoid being targeted though.

Given how much that argument was used for putting alley in some village lists in the last iteration of this game (and recognizing they're different players, but still), and that we don't know for sure if shorty had the option to be town, this is irrelevant for me.

Yes, I fully expect that everyone will magically be town in their claims, but there's information to be gained from it that can be used to catch slips later on.
