Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks! I honestly wasn't expecting to have to make any kind of decision. I was fully prepared to have to apply again next year! But I guess it's a good problem to have! And congrats to you on getting into your dream school! That's awesome! 😍

It's definitely a good problem to have, but that doesn't mean it's an easy decision!

Aw thanks 😀 I still can't believe it's real!! I guess it will feel a little more real this Thursday when I go to the SEC basketball tournament to watch Mizzou play!! I can't wait to support my new team!!

I'm jealous of all of you. I am still trying to hash out what school I want to attend! 😱 I wish April 15 wasn't approaching so quickly.

Wish you the best in deciding on your perfect school!

Haha, I'm sending you the best of :luck: deciding which school to attend!! I knew where I wanted to go before I submitted my application so it was easy to decide lol

Same here! I had my heart set on Ohio way before applying 🙂

Thanks!!! Hopefully I'll know sooner rather than later so that I can think about other things again... like, you know, classes and other kind of important things like that. 😉

And congrats to you too! That's so great! I'm so happy for all of you! And I love the positivity in this thread 😍

(I know it's not all rainbows and unicorns in vet med these days, but I at least want to enjoy this happy/proud feeling for a little bit, ya know?)

I figure this is the best place to post this..

The Khols website has all of their college apparel on sale- for both genders!!!!! You can search for your school in the left side bar! I spent way too much on Mizzou apparel last night lol

And, if you use the Promo code : ENTERTAIN15 you can get 15% off your purchase and free shipping !! (Disclaimer: it worked for me last night, I am not guaranteeing it will work anymore, but it's worth a shot!!!)

Heres the website :

The cheapest A&M t-shirt is still $22 😱 Welp, figured I'd support my undergrad (and possibly vet school) alma mater, but never mind.

Aww booooo! I got like 5 Mizzou tshirts that were each between 7-9 bucks!!

I really need to make a decision so I can buy some new shirts:laugh:

Downside of being an International student: no cheap shirts from Kohl's. My undergrad isn't in there either. 🙁

I was going to go talk to my pre-health advisor, but career services is closed because it's so snowy. I am becoming progressively less okay with not having picked a school yet.

haha that looks like Snuggie had a child with a Mizzou Super Hero! 🤣

Lol that thing is super funny. My box of Mizzou apparel should arrive today, I'm pretty stoked about it!!

Met a Mizzou Alum today.. He is an oncologist at the ER/ specialty hospital I interviewed at today.. He was super nice !! 😀

I'm so giddy today. :soexcited: :highfive: 😍

I still haven't picked either 😕 It is getting annoying having everyone I know ask me where I am going finally... Everyone leave me alone until April 15!

Everybody at works keeps asking me. One of the doctors will ask me multiple times throughout the day "did you decide yet?" I know it's nice that they care so much, but it just makes it feel even more stressful than it already is!😱

Are you coming to Scotland any time soon??? 🙂

Are you still planning to visit Scotland before you make your decision? You might not feel this way now, but it's a good problem to have - having to choose between schools. So far I have only been accepted to one so that's where I'm going. 😉

I'm not coming until that first weekend in April when I'm pretty sure all of you are gone! 🙁 I have 3 exams in the next couple of weeks, so it would be too hard to travel around that AND my work schedule. Silly work and school. They ruin everything! 😀

Yeah I will be off lambing in Dumfermline.... I leave on the 7th of April... so unless you are here before then I will be gone.

Yeah, I am! And I know it's a good problem to have, it just wasn't a problem I was expecting to have. 🙂 The hard part of the decision is deciding to go to Scotland or to stay here and go to my IS because those are such different paths to take. I'm going to Scotland in a couple of weeks, so that will help me get a feel for which Scottish school I would want to attend. Then I'll get back home and have less than a week to make my decision. hehe. That won't be stressful or anything 😉 I am leaning toward going abroad right now, and I think the only thing that will really change that is if I go visit and hate it. (which I don't see happening. I've never been to Scotland, but I've been to England and Ireland both a bunch of times and I love it over there!!!)

I'm not exactly sure of the dates yet, so if it's before that I'll let you know. Otherwise, there's always the chance I'll see you in the Fall... 😀

Hey all..just popping in to say hi! I was just accepted to C/O 2017 for Auburn and I'm super excited!

Dangerous! Thank you and curse you at the same time!

I find myself wanting it all, including some of the tailgate stuff, even though I never plan on attending more than one football game at CSU lol

I feel ya guys.. My box of 11 Mizzou items arrived yesterday.... 🙄 .thank goodness I'm pet sitting all this week to pay for this mini shopping spree.. . Yea, you can never have too much school spirit stuff huh lol it's all clothing so it will get lots of use.. Especially since Mizzou's dress code lets us wear pretty much anything Mizzou.. As long as its not booty shorts, PJs etc.

Met with my pre-health advisor today and it was pretty unhelpful. She did give me an alum contact who's on faculty at LSU, though.

So I feel like I'm supposed to be super excited about things like looking for housing for school in the fall and other vet school preparations. I usually am super excited for such things. But instead I'm avoiding it at all costs. Ughh. Maybe my mind is just too focused on work right now. It's physically, emotionally and mentally exhausting (hence why I haven't been on SDN in weeks) We're always behind on everything despite the fact that I work more hours than I actually get paid my measly wages for and we've got something like 4 times the caseload as usual and on top of that our most experienced tech is leaving and our head husbandry person has lyme disease... and one of our interns had to leave because she couldn't afford to keep coming. But it's super fun and I love it at the same time, so it's hard to think about other things, even vet school, especially when those things mean leaving work that I love. But I can't be a pseudo vet tech/hospital keeper earning barely above minimum wage for the rest of my life, so I suppose I just need to move on and get excited for school!!!! I was hoping the exclamation points would help with the excitement, but alas, no. Maybe this post should have gone in the rant thread?

Alright, hopefully now no one thinks that I'm dead for not posting for weeks or just left SDN because I feel that I no longer have use for all you now that I've gotten in and chosen my school (really, I'm not one of those people. But don't be surprised (or offended) if I don't post again for awhile. Life's just too crazy right now.

I just watched my first pig and horse castrations today.

Slowly getting that LA experience I'm lacking 😳 ...

Hang in there dovelover. I hope you get the break that you need!

👍

They asked us to watch a pig castration (very young ones) once and then we had to do our own along with a few other procedures (tail docking, needle teeth clipping...). That was still my favorite lab here!

Last night I crunched the numbers for Auburn and Ohio State (the two schools I have left to pick between)..... I calculated the total tuition, living expenses, and interest accrued over the four years, while including the tuition inflation and the cost of living average inflation. Needless to say, I didn't fall asleep until 4 am because I was so nervous... The numbers weren't pretty.... Most days I CANNOT wait to start in the fall, but other days I really worry about what I am getting myself into. It is those random days where I question myself that is scaring me.... Is anyone else having similiar feelings?

yeah me too I think it's cuz it still doesn't feel real yet. I'm more excited than scared though. I know that if I don't do this then I'll regret it for the rest of my life. I'm sure as long as this is something one really wants to do then they can make something work out.

I think everyone has various doubts. It's a big life decision and a big commitment that we have all made. I feel nervous about going to vet school, about how foolish my financial choice may have been (choosing OOS over IS meant the difference between no student debt and needing to take out some loans), I feel weird leaving my undergrad without a BS, and to be leaving this town in general after only 3 years. It's all weird. Exciting, but weird. I think we all have our anxious moments.

I'm having my moments too. It's been are particularly bad month for me emotionally, so I'm having a harder time feeling OK about taking loads of debt and having to spend the next 4 years at school and then many, many years after that working long hours and being stressed out of my mind. My body is already starting to fall apart at 23. Sigh.

Part of me wishes I had just chosen to start training under my dad to take over his decently-established family business  But then again, I would probably be doing a disservice to him because I know virtually nothing about his product 😳

I still have those moments when in school.

So, yeah.

Maybe some current vet students can answer this question.

I received my financial aid award letter this afternoon from K-State, and the government is offering me way more than my OOS tuition would cost for the 2013-2014 year.

Do I have to accept the whole amount? I was offered a Graduate PLUS Loan, Federal Direct Unsubsidized - VM loan and a Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan.

No accept what you need

You can just take what you need. Some people will take the whole amount in order to cover the cost if living expenses while in school, but if you don't need that much you don't have to take it.
