Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Headed back to CoMo today... I've thoroughly enjoyed my vacation in NY... So much that I don't wanna come home 🙁 I miss my SO so much.. I love upstate NY.. It's so beautiful up here. Blah.

That's why we decided to get married here 😀. I'm leaving it next Wednesday, with my SO behind as well. I feel your pain. Vet school will keep you busy. 🙂

This is the second day in a row that I have not done a thing to put my house together. Where the hell did my motivation go? I also saw that this semester's bill has been charged to my bursar account. I officially have zero dollars to spend on nice things, or things at all really. I think that and the 108 degree heat index may be my answer... :d

Now I'm terrified to look at my account... on the bright side, orientation in a week! I had no motivation at all either until about an hour ago... then cleaned the crap out of my house.

Just helped a fellow classmate move in. I moved at the start of the summer for unrelated reasons...I don't know how y'all end-of-summer movers are able to start school and unpack at the same time! I still have stuff to deal with and put away. Can we all just agree that moving sucks?

It IS kind of fun to nest in a new place, though.

Moving is the worst. I just want all my stuff to be where it's supposed to be and not in the 60+ boxes it's currently in. Blergh. 🙁

The more classmates that I become friends with on Facebook the more I'm feeling inadequate and behind. 🙁 Starting to stress about if I'll be able to handle my classes, get involved enough, get a job next summer, ect.

Seriously, stop comparing yourself to others starting now. You're going to make yourself miserable especially when school starts and grades come out. Do the best you can do and be proud of what you've accomplished 👍

👍

You got into vet school, you are all vet students now... there is nothing to compare each other against. Also, try to stay away from those that do compare, it isn't worth it. I have no idea my classmates previous GPA's/experience/whatever... I have a vague idea of who is interested in equine med, who food animal and who is cat/dog... but even that is a very vague idea. I don't know my other classmates' exam scores or anything and honestly I do not care... that is for them to worry about, not me. Worry about yourself, study hard and do your personal best... it isn't a competition.

Thanks, guys. I need to work on changing my mindset asap. Also need to stop focusing on the fact that my biggest "competition" from undergrad is still going to be my classmate. She's extremely type A and nosy.

I peaced out for the week, will be back on the 16th. Have fun at orientation, ladies! I'll be working the behavior booth at the merch sale after convocation so come say hi 🙂

It's really not a competition anymore. Ultimately you should want your whole class to be smart, compassionate, hard working vets because that is the best thing for all the animals out there. So do your best, don't freak out if someone else has more experience or knowledge about something, think to yourself how glad you are they will be really helping their patients - and learn from them! And teach people the things that you know more about. And remember that no one is good at everything. I had to teach a classmate how to pick up a dog. On the other hand, a classmate had to teach me to listen to a rumen. Everyone has something that they are just plain clueless about and will appreciate an understanding teacher.

This is an awesome post. 👍👍

Hey 2017ers!!!! If you have worked at Banfield prior to vet school there are openings posted for student ambassador positions on the Banfield site. I know there are openings at UTK, Missouri Ohio, Tufts, Cornell and CSU.. I just submitted my app for the Missouri position so :xf: :xf: 😀

Just remember...there will always be someone better than you. Just accept it now. Stop comparing yourself to others. Your classmates might know more than you because they have studied in advance/have taken similar classwork. You'll catch up. In the end, you will all be taught and know the same thing. Stay away from the gunners. The few in our class calmed down by second semester.

Where did you find that? We have a Banfield on campus so I'm thinking maybe they don't need student ambassadors =\

Hmm, I'm not sure.. I would assume the College still has Student Ambassadors because they partner with the Medical Director to promote the company, Not necessarily a single hospital.. I bet if there isn't an opening then both the positions are filled, but you can contact CTS and talk to the student job/ ambassador people to find out for sure!

Oh and I found it because the other ambassador for Mizzou sent a mass email telling us that the other position was open.. But if you go to the Banfield website and click on careers you can search for the ambassador position and all of the openings will pop up!

Last minute change of plans have landed me in a scramble. I'm now moving tomorrow instead of next Thursday....😱 Kinda freaking out as I was hoping to have more time to purge crap before I haul it all to my new place.

Oh well. My best work is usually done at the last minute anyways. 😀

Poop. When I did that, only one for Ohio State popped up. Oh well, there's a ton of rep opportunities opening up on my campus for once!

Search again sometime today... Long story short--- I got on the website yesterday and the only opening posted was for Ohio, so I got really bummed thinking they had filled all the spots already.... then around 6pm The girl from CTS called me wanting to set up an interview!!! While I was on the phone I told her how bummed I was earlier in the day thinking the position had already been filled and she said that the requisition on Taleo must have expired and she was wondering if the same thing had happened for other schools--- so she said she was gonna check the other schools and make sure there was an open requisition for the open positions!!!

Bought a bunch of furniture at a resale shop today. Got chairs, a desk, coffee table, kitchen table, and tv stand all for $50. Hope it all fits in my apartment.

Just made color coded schedules on excel for the first two months of school to print out and put on my cork board. I'm not used to having a constantly changing schedule!

I'll be making my first trip to bring stuff to BR in about half an hour. We fit a surprising amount of stuff in the family van--I might be able to fit my bed or dresser in with all the boxes and suitcases. Both of those things are still at the old house, so we have to make a detour to there first.

Hehe I have to show you my schedule one of these days. It's pretty OCD, but I'm very proud of it!!

We had a get together last night about thirty of us went to dinner. It was nice but there is NO way I remember more then ten names. I had a great time but orientation starts this week and I'm nervous as hell about what is about to go down. It doesn't help that UFCVM just posted this on their Facebook page "Academically, our incoming freshman class is one of the strongest ever admitted to the UFCVM." Absolutely no pressure guys no pressure at all. @_@

I've been obsessively checking my financial aid to make sure it goes through and found some exciting news. Interest rates for loans signed after July 1, 2013 just got lowered :soexcited:. Unsubsidized for grad students is now 5.41.

Wow. we have almost 37% males in OKstate's incoming class. Good jorb, boys! It's not so bad to match wits with women. Our bark is worse than our bite. 😉

I thought it seemed like a lot of guys... maybe hubby should be worried, haha

It's roughly a 1:10 male to female ratio at my school from what the FB page looks like so far.

🙁

Good thing the med school lecture halls are in the same building....😀

Hey STB! We can be friends! Whenever I met people over the last week here, I have tried not to bring up ANY vet med related/undergrad major/vet school conversations. Just got to know about the person, where they were from and what they liked to do in their free time. Since I still don't believe I belong here, I found that I wouldn't compare myself to my classmates if I stuck to those conversations. Everyone I have met from our class so far has been EXTREMELY friendly! I think (hope) we will be okay 🙂 I look forward to meeting you if you are going to the class picnic tonight!! Stay positive, you belong here!! We will all get through it together 🙂

I'm actually curious how you guys did this, because I am strugglebusing on mine.

This morning started out horribly when I took 3 hours trying to build my dresser before it collapsed irreparably. But now I have a working dresser, have unpacked my room (kitchen stuff can wait 'til tomorrow), am getting to know my roommate, and met some pretty cool people at the first welcome week activity.

Thanks 🙂 And thanks to everyone else for the support! I feel like I was having a really low day that day and have been in much better spirits since. No worries! Had a great time at the get together tonight and it was nice to finally meet you (although briefly). Can't wait to get to know everyone better this week at orientation 😀

I now have my new Ohio Driver's license, voter's registration, Buck ID and Vet School ID. Excited to start my new journey but it was kind of sad when the BMV guy said he was going to shred my PA license and I couldn't get it back 🙁

North Carolina didn't take my Texas license AND this year when I moved I filled out the online form and they sent me a brand new license so I may or may not have sold my old one to a friends 19 year old girlfriend who looks a lot like me.

Yup, I still have my CO license (thanks, NC!). It's one of the only pics I have of my crazy haircut from the time (buzzed and blond) so I'm a hang onto it.

That's some business savvy, Foxhunter. Just don't sell your current one so we can get a drink sometime 🙂

It's the worst. Even worse when you can't unpack things because you need to do major cleaning or repairs. I spent a week with my bathroom stuff all over the place because it was a wreck and I had to repair, replace, and repaint things from stem to stern. My hands-off landlord was impressed, and he reimbursed, so I was okay with it.

The more classmates that I become friends with on Facebook the more I'm feeling inadequate and behind. 🙁 Starting to stress about if I'll be able to handle my classes, get involved enough, get a job next summer, ect.

I'm still on the fence about Facebook. I deleted mine a while ago because I never got on FB anymore and I didn't like how it made me feel when I did. OTOH, apparently that's how my classmates communicate. I REALLY do not want to get on, but I also don't want to exclude myself from knowing about anything.

It would really be nice if I could just watch the page without having an account. Oh well.

Haha! I tend to do a similar thing, but I buy furniture and then go "oh man, I hope this fits in my car!"

We have 17% male and at least 12% of those males are named John, so that's helpful 🙂

Geez! We have 19-23 guys (the number changes on depending who you ask) in our class of 105 students and the professors keep telling us that's a lot of guys compared to previous years.
On another note, had my first day of class yesterday! I immediately came home and spent a couple hours drawing the bones of the forelimb and I still feel like I'm no closer to mastering it 😱 I really wish I'd taken anatomy in undergrad!

Between having to push my move-in date back a day, worrying about whether my living situation will work out, problems with my loans, dealing with a million little issues that OF COURSE cropped up right before I leave, and stressing about how I'm going to fit everything in my car IF I ever manage to finish packing, and I am more than ready to throw the towel in and get a job at McDonald's instead of going to vet school. Is it too late to defer a year? Or maybe two? 🙄
