Can someone who's overcome test anxiety please DM me? Or several someones.... I need to pick some brains!
#ThirdyearslumpI don't understand how I can...
- enjoy what I am learning
- be excited and grateful to learn it
- be impressed with the quality of instruction
- have recent first-hand knowledge of the very bad consequences of blowing off school work
- still be entirely unmotivated to do ANYTHING at all.
Like, why? What is the hurdle here? I've gone about 7 days without cracking my laptop open once and I still can't make myself do it when I'm in crunch mode.
It's as if last minute panic and fear of failure doesn't induce a response anymore...which is unsettling because that was my primary method of getting things done in the past.
Thanks.#Thirdyearslump
I've got no real explanation for it other than it happens, and last year around this time was pretty much my worst time in vet school. Maybe it's that there has been so much crunch time panic and fear that you're just like...immune to it now. Wish you luck in dragging yourself through it.
Thanks.
It's a strange state of existence -- if you were to ask me if I was enjoying school this year (which I got asked a bunch of times over thanksgiving), I would enthusiastically say "yes, very much so!" But also...blah. I'm the worst student I've ever been. And unfortunately, unlike many of my friends who are making good use of their slacker mentality and going skiing, rock climbing and hand-knitting christmas presents and stuff...I'm just hanging around my house like a bum and doing literally nothing except scolding my bored cats for being naughty.
I also typically do much better in the fall than in the spring, so...preemptive lololololol to the short upcoming spring semester when I have to take courses I dislike, like ophthalmology (sorry @cubsrule4e)

It gets better (if you like a short semester). Just gotta survive the last shove to clinics.@kaydubs tell me it gets better haha

We have four classes next year as well! I’m definitely feeling the third year slump. We legit had 4 classes, which was like, half of the usual![]()
Two quizzes, four finals, and one surgery lab stand between me and the end of this semester. I am ready for it be over.
But I'm still not ready for clinics. Halp.
And a partridge in a pear treeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Is the partridge showing signs of disease? Have there been any other birds in the tree lately? Where is the partridge coming from and does it have a valid health certificate?

The USDA will likely also want to investigate that tree and its pears for signs of disease. Good luck bringing any of it into California as wellIs the partridge showing signs of disease? Yeah sorry California is not accepting any trees at this time and birds are carriers of several infectious diseases. If you wish to enter California you will need to be hosed down, the tree incinerated, and partridges are illegal. The USDA will likely also want to investigate that tree and its pears for signs of disease. Meanwhile, I sent a bunch of cats to Montana and all they needed was a rabies certificate.Yeah sorry California is not accepting any trees at this time and birds are carriers of several infectious diseases. Sounds like a massive depop of partridges is necessary. Someone page @Teepster87Yeah sorry California is not accepting any trees at this time and birds are carriers of several infectious diseases. Good thing I'm already tactically positioned in California. I just need some CO2, a trash can, and a willing assistant.Sounds like a massive depop of partridges is necessary. Someone page @Teepster87
So funny thing, here is a screenshot of all the various forms required to move animals into CaliforniaYeah sorry California is not accepting any trees at this time and birds are carriers of several infectious diseases. FINALLY, a dedicated resource for navigating the booming interstate yak trade !So funny thing, here is a screenshot of all the various forms required to move animals into California
Japan’s import form for cats and dogs also lists skunks and foxes as options. Those aren’t legal to own in my state, but I can send them to Japan!FINALLY, a dedicated resource for navigating the booming interstate yak trade !
Timely...I was literally just looking up domestic Russian foxes the other day to see what the deal is with those these days, because I put that on my christmas list after pet koala lolJapan’s import form for cats and dogs also lists skunks and foxes as options. They’re about 5k, plus import costs if I remember from the last time I checked. Which was probably last Christmas.Timely...I was literally just looking up domestic Russian foxes the other day to see what the deal is with those these days, because I put that on my christmas list after pet koala lol
(I like to put a few "reach" gifts on my list each year to make my other requests seem more reasonable)
That's thousands less than what someone at my old clinic paid for their labradoodle (true story). A bargain! They’re about 5k, plus import costs if I remember from the last time I checked. Which was probably last Christmas.

Just had a flashback to filling out a travel cert for a client’s pug to Korea earlier this year. *shudder*Japan’s import form for cats and dogs also lists skunks and foxes as options. Those aren’t legal to own in my state, but I can send them to Japan!
going to Hawaii is pretty involved too for interstate. Good grief. hahaJust had a flashback to filling out a travel cert for a client’s pug to Korea earlier this year. *shudder*

Most hoops to jump through thus far is sending a dog to Australia. There is a 20-step process (including rabies titer, erhlichia IFAT, and Leishmania IFAT) and it takes a minimum of 6 months, plus a 10 day quarantine once they arrive.going to Hawaii is pretty involved too for interstate. Yeah, I heard transport to Australia was crazyyyMost hoops to jump through thus far is sending a dog to Australia. There is a 20-step process (including rabies titer, erhlichia IFAT, and Leishmania IFAT) and it takes a minimum of 6 months, plus a 10 day quarantine once they arrive.
it isn't aruba for now anyway. Just got finished prepping for pup going there.Australia is pretty strict, with Korea and Japan being pretty tight too. I haven't done any papers to China in the last year, but I had heard that they recently got tighter (now require a rabies titer). I can't remember what Caribbean island it was, maybe Antigua or Aruba, but they had one of the strictest requirements I remember seeing.
Travel certificates is my one passion in vet med y'all, let me know if you've ever got any questions about it.
Thanks in large part to the current political situation, we're looking to move after I graduate (and hopefully after I complete my residency). For a whole host of reasons, we're seriously looking at New Zealand, but we'll be going with probably two dogs and at least one cat. I've taken the Canadian version of that import/export course... I can't wait. <sigh>Australia is pretty strict, with Korea and Japan being pretty tight too. @mmmdreamerz ... ummm ... has your MD aunt heard about pet insurance (because most pets are gonna need much more than basic routine care and chest rads as they grow older just like many people who have HUMAN health insurance)?Holidays are so...fun??...awkward??...had the fabulous experience of listening to my MD aunt complain to me about the cost of veterinary care for her two small dogs. I wanted to be like 1) You and I both know you can afford it 2) I have six figure student loans and your complaining to me about the cost of preventative care and some chest rads...classy.
I actually really like doing them. The other docs will ask me for clarification if they have questions because I speak bureaucracy pretty well. 😉Australia is pretty strict, with Korea and Japan being pretty tight too.
