Class of 2022...how you doin'?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
oh man, that's the worst! Whenever the average is below a C, I really feel like instead of just consistently curving, the school should look at the exam and change it or change the way the class is formatted. I hate when it's like they don't care about what we learn because they want to give us exams a certain way. Seeing if we can handle pressure is fine but not like that, that's for the clinics and your ER rotation
yeah our Ag class this semester one prof his exams always ended up being curved. I feel if you're having to adjust the exam a ton/often its an exam writing problem and doesn't help for practically of what I need to know. Definitely a difference between a man that exam was hard-ie applicable questions but truly tests your knowledge over things that were discussed vs that exam was terrible-ie questions like what does spironolactone taste like, or which testicle is this AFTER it's been detached from the body or todays crazyness

I'm really grateful that Cornell has had everything be open book this semester to offset the stress of COVID
Sorry you had to deal with that Mixy 🙁
Man I wish we were doing that at MN. I end up cramming and dumping info instead because I can't find the focus during lectures and it's so much worse for my learning.

I wish our exams were open book!!! I'd rather have them be 'harder' questions and open book... I think that'd help with a decent amount of my vet school related stress. Instead I get a lockdown browser that yells at me when I put my head in my hands and cry

I've heard of that software, it sounds ridiculous! Like if you stare at the ceiling to take a break it interprets that as you looking at a cheat sheet, that's insane!

Luckily they didnt force proctorio (which does this) on the 3rd years, but i've heard it's been a huge sticking point for first and second years.
We only have one class that uses Lockdown Browser, and it's one that doesn't use video or audio or anything, just makes you unable to open any other tabs/programs.

My class has decided to handle finals by meme dumping on our class Facebook page and I love it. 19 memes in the past 24 hours. Most of them made by classmates and hilarious.

Exam this morning was the first exam this finals period I actually finished (and I am usually one of the fastest test takers in a room), so that was a nice change from the mess the first few were.

Covid restrictions just ramped up here and as of Thursday you can't see anyone outside of your household. So our 3-person post-finals dinner party has now become a "study and eat fancy pasta" evening the night before restrictions kick in lol. Sad I'm not going to be able to celebrate being done finals with my friends, but I'm glad the province is trying to get ahead of the December case spike.

God I do this in every exam. I would definitely fail everything. My school has decided to proctor those of us taking it from home OVER ZOOM. In case you all wanted to know how ridiculous my school is

You guys don't do this for every exam period?

On the negative side, I found out today that my recently adopted spay has polyps.

On the positive side, I might get to remove said polyps next week if all goes well so...

YUP! Uses sound AND video, they say to not have music playing or the TV on too.... but I've been definitely blasting spotify from the next room otherwise I'd go insane. Basically if my lighting isn't good I get yelled at (but don't sit next to a window), and if I'm looking at my scratch paper it flags me for that too. It's a nightmare.

Wow, we don't even put in our rotation requests for another month here.

What’s everyone’s plan for NAVLE prep? Zuku vs VetPrep? What about the VIN prep course? I always hear to not worry about hardcore studying until a few months before, especially since we start clinics in ~50 days here. Thoughts?

I have vetprep because I'm the rep😅 but overall I've heard they're pretty much the same and it doesnt matter. I havent heard about the vin prep course. I know some of us were talking on the 2021 thread about prep if you wanna go read there for more stuffs

I'm just doing some questions everyday because theres ALOT to do to get to the 80% completion

I also attended a talk by a vet prep person who said they don’t hold the 80% in hard words anymore because they don’t want students to rush through the questions without taking in the material. Have you heard this too?

Thanks guys! The upcoming VetPrep sale ends in March-ish so I wasn’t sure which to purchase, I heard they have another one in August but I don’t want to wait that late.
I bought mine in April and was good until mid to late June about low key studying. Then it fell off till September.

Part of it may depend also on how covid affects yalls testing cycles. I got a good price due to covid and saved money (per month) than if I bought it later

Yeah it's not a hard 80% because exactly what you mentioned and people just completing it to complete it. From what it sounds like they "counsel" you if you fail to help figure out what you need to improve the next round-not 100% sure what that looks like or anything though.

Day 2 of Zoom university. I am over it already. If we didn't only have 3 classes atm I would be very sad. I have done 0 studying. Main computer is broken and now on it's way to get fixed-hoping it's not gone too long cause ya know school...online.
Do you have another study method at least while the main computer is out of commission?

I haven’t found the motivation or energy to attend classes tbh. Met with my dr about my excessive sleeping and whacked out sleep schedule (up all night, sleep all day) too. We assume it has to do with COVID related home restrictions, lack of real structure, etc. But I also don’t have the motivation to add structure :hungover:

I'm doing VetPrep mainly because I like the aesthetic of the Question of the Day more lol. Plus they have an app which I think will be very handy if I have some time to kill in the hallway during clinics.

I only wanted to get 3 months but I feel obligated to get the 6 months sale thing where you get the year for the cost of 6 months. I just know myself and know I won't do jack until the fall haha.

Thankfully I have a faithful old dinosaur that will suffice for the mean time but is definitely not winning any races. Honestly if it wasnt for my study group I would pry not be watching lecture either😅
Luckily my husbands work schedule keeps me on a semi regular sleep schedule.
I was having a hard time sleeping and when I did sleep it wasnt quality sleep. So I started going to the gym to swim- slept like a rock the last 3 days I went. I really need to keep it up but at the same time I have to plan to go because of reservations and such because of covid so I cant just go when I feel like it how I used to before covid

You’re not alone there. I had a bunch of blood tests run because I, too, have been sleeping excessively since lockdown (10+ hours a night if I don’t set an alarm). I’m at the point where I’m seeing a sleep specialist now.

Currently my sleep issues are more of an annoyance than anything. But I did a one week rotation over winter break in the hospital and hoooo boy, all I did when I came home was eat, shower, and then go to bed.

One thing my sleep doctor said is that COVID may have unmasked people’s sleep disorders because they didn’t have constant interaction and stimulation of day-to-day life. You can work through tiredness if you are up and moving a bit. But we’ve all been sitting all day doing nothing, which can reveal some underlying fatigue.

I hope you get some answers soon!
