CSU c/o 2018 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yea, you are both right, I just can't imagine willingly adding more to the work load. But I will definitely ask those before me.

I got on the FB page, thanks!

whats the link? I tried to search it but the FB search function sucks.

Thanks for the advice, I'm sure once I get to know everyone it will be easier. Dr. Hardy said the classes are the entire 138 of us but the labs are split up. Also I was worried about the elective classes they were showing in the curriculum and she said we can take whatever extra classes we want but it is not required...um yea I don't want to take extra classes thank you...although exotic animal anatomy and husbandry sounds interesting.
Hey guys. I am going to be a 3rd year next year and thought I could answer a few of your questions and maybe give you a heads up on how first year usually goes. Hopefully I don't repeat what you already know. The electives that you can take the first year are the exotics and the business certificate classes I believe. I am getting the business certificate so I know a little about those classes. It is the same certificate that the undergraduates receive, so the classes are with undergrads and are not catered to veterinary students. I would not give the program a hearty endorsement, but I don't regret doing it. It has been a bummer missing out on other electives though. The exotics elective is not required if you want to practice with exotics. I have heard very mixed reviews about it as well, but it does allow you to hang out with exotics in class. To really get hands on experience though you will want to join clubs. They are they best way to get your hands dirty (so to speak).
You guys will spend almost every day in a classroom with all 138 of your classmates, but you have personal areas called cubes which divide you into ~17 people alphabetically. They are renovating the cubes this summer (you lucky dogs!) so I can't tell you what they will look like. It it a short walk from the cubes to the classroom and the anatomy lab where you will spend most of your time. Some time is also split into path labs in the building where the 2nd years have class. I think these consist of about 1/3 of the class and are determined by your registration.
Just a heads up- Unless you really love learning from books you probably won't need to buy them. You will need the anatomy and maybe radiology CDs, a dissection kit, and clinic smocks (I recommend 2) in order to go to the VTH. You can get by without a stethoscope, but I enjoy having mine so I don't have to borrow. PCs work better with the programs that they use, but MACs can get by. My class has moved to almost 100% electronic notes, but I would recommend paper one for the first semester so that you can draw on the anatomy ones. A lot of people drew on their tablets too. I recommend going to computer services and getting them to install T-drive access on you computer. This will mean something to you later.
Welp that's all I have for now other than to say that if you don't have a CSU parking pass you WILL get a ticket for parking at the VTH so carpool for foundations if you can. Feel free to message me Qs. I will check periodically over the summer.

Sorry to revive dead threads, but if any of you current CSU DVMers would be willing to take a survey, I'm looking to put together an apartment/housing resource for the incoming C/O 2020. 🙂
