So I have been accepted to CWRU and am currently on the waitlist at Keck, but was hoping to get some feedback just in case I do need to make this decision. I really like both curriculums, both schools have MD/MPH programs, and all the students I met seemed really happy. Truthfully, I am more inclined to want to stay in California since I was born and raised here and it's where my family/friends are, but I'm worried that passing on Case would be a huge mistake. University Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic are just fantastic. However, as someone who wants to do primary care and work in underserved communities, the chance to learn in LA county would be amazing. Would attending USC over Case for the sake of being around more support/better weather be a mistake?

Even as a biased observer (Cleveland fan and soon-to-be CCLCM student), I still say what you listed are totally fair reasons to choose USC.

You're right, Case is an amazing place, but if cost doesn't come into the equation I say go where you think you'll be happiest in the moment, because both places will get you where you want to be in the future!

Congrats btw!

It seems like you've already made your decision. You have a strong support system in CA, you want to practice in CA (it's easier matching in CA from a CA school), and you really want to do primary care and work for the underserved community. Keck is associated with one of the largest and most diverse hospitals - County hospital of LA. You'll get a nice primary care/underserved patient population. This is not to say that you won't see the same at CWRU, but you won't be at a disadvantage at USC in terms of clinical opportunities.

The only downside I see is :greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy:. If you can grind out four years in Cleveland, the extra debt you save at CWRU might well be worth it.

Current Case M4 here. Since you're from California, you should stay in California if given the chance. There are a lot of successful Cali-native Case students, but it's a battle to get back into the state. The cost difference in USC and Case are negligible if you're looking at sticker price...both are very expensive.

I loved my experience at Case so if I you end up here, I know you'll have a great time. And like I said, there are tons of California people here that end up making it back. But if your ultimate goal is to stay in Cali, go to Keck if given the opportunity. Unless Case gives you a full-ride or something.

That one line there ----> USC. That being said, CWRU is an excellent place due to their P/F curriculum in the first 2 years which will help for the boards.

Dude Cleveland is garbage, nobody wants to willingly live there. Locals try to advocate for it but we all know they are just BS'ing. Why do you think Lebron left? People with options go elsewhere. Cleveland is basically the 'participation award' of major US cities. Go hard to get off the USC waitlist.

I really appreciate the input, guys. I'll stop feeling crazy for wanting to pass up Case and start working on that heartfelt update letter to send Kecks way on the 15th of May.

Both great schools, I'd wait for the cost before setting your heart on one.
