I interviewed somewhere a couple days ago and people were asking where to send thank you emails. Does this actually matter or weigh at all into your chances of getting accepted? I don't want to send thank you emails because I think it is silly and meaningless. If I was an interviewer, I wouldn't want a bunch of kissass thank you emails sent to me and if I got any, I definitely wouldn't read them. Haha so basically, I don't want to because it's not who I am. Is this okay? Should I suck it up and send thank you emails anyways?

I agree. Doesn't seem genuine. I haven't sent any thank you letters and have been accepted into multiple schools. But I know a lot of people do send letters. I don't thank it matters one way or the other.

I don't send thank-you letters because I want to get accepted......................

I send them because my interviewers were kind enough to talk to a pre-med like me.

edit: should be moved to pre-med forum

Right, so we disagree on that. I already thanked them after my interview so I think that is suffice and don't want to waste anymore of their time. So I would be sending it strictly because I want to get accepted. After all, that is why I interviewed and I don't want some silly norm thing to hurt my chances. Do you think it plays any part in their decision making process?

No, sending one will not affect your chance of being accepted.

Alright, awesome. Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.

Differs by school, thank you letters matter at Einstein. I have had few responses from interviewers. Personally I think it is nice.

Care to elaborate? I find it hard to believe that a thank you letter has even the opportunity to make a difference as interviewers score the applicant on the day of the interview.

Concur. When I interviewed at Einstein, my interviewer explicitly told me that immediately following my interview he would write an evaluation of me and fill out some type of rubric/form which is emailed to the dean.

I think what you guys are missing here is that some people, i.e. myself and others, write thank you notes not for admission points for because it's the right, and the nice thing, to do. Differs by opinion though, I never once wrote a note thinking it would help me by getting in. It's just nice, that's it. If you interviewed for a job you would write a thank you note no? Common courtesy.

As for Einsinte, those who are curious can PM me. I once attended a seminar given by the dean and thank you notes matter to them.

Some places I interviewed at were very specific about where they'd like their thank-you notes sent and that it'd be added to your file. It was clear to me at those places that they really expected a thank you note.

I sent one to every school so far where I interviewed. Only one interviewer out of 7 has responded. Hah hah - I even sent a thank you note to a really crazy rude stress interviewer.

I don't think it will hurt your application. I am really grateful that these people can take sometimes more than an hour out of their day to interview me. Some of them might appreciate that I took time to write them a thank you, others might not read it.

You seem to have missed the point of the tread. No one was asking if thank you letters are nice, they obviously are. The OP was inquiring as to whether thank you letters actually affect your chance of admittance. I then responded to your insinuation that letters do affect your chance of admittance. So ill give you another chance; care to elaborate on the bolded?

Do whatever you want (unless they told you not to send them). It has nothing to do with your application.

I agree. I don't think it will truly make a difference in your acceptance.

Depends. [Like most things do.] I send an emails to people that I had one on one interviews with. I thank them and hit on a few key points as to what I'm about and why this school. No more than two sentences. If it was an MMI, I don't send any emails because I talked to 9 people for 8 mins so it doesn't make sense.
At the end of the day it doesn't hurt at all. Also most times they don't respond but I also email my interviewers to let them know I was accepted and they do respond to those emails.
