The problem is that I did not hear back from them since my application was complete on 04/23. I think I was late in my application but I only heard about this program from my premed advisor around that time 🙁🙁.

4/23 is so recent! Give it some time! I think they get about 500 applications the last week. I would wait until maybe the end of this week or early next week. Don’t give up yet!

Has anyone received an interview who’s scores were below a 498?

Some of the people I met on interview day mentioned they had a score lower than that.

I had an interview this past week and they mentioned they would be sending out decisions in mid May and then another wave in late May.
Classes start July 1st, so they are trying to let students know as soon as possible. I’m pretty happy about the quick turnaround time.

I have the same feeling, the school website says like they don't do rolling admission and early applicants wouldn't be favored so I waited pretty late to apply. but now I feel they have given out 75% IIs and our chances as late applicants are dim now

I want to say between 8-12 people, leaning on the lower side. I was in the afternoon group and there was another 8-12 in the morning.
Do you recall how many people were there at your interview?

that means they interviewed 20 people on the same day? Oh, so they would have had interviewed almost 100 people now...

Did they say that the committee would meet mid-may or specifically decisions would come out mid-May? I remember them saying they would meet mid-may so I presumed decisions would come out around May 24th like they have for the past couple years.

They do not interview about 20 people a day, I’ve been at almost every interview day and it’s been like 10-17 people total. Including morning and afternoon. I know they’re doing interviews for the next 3 weeks, not sure if it’s being extended some more

They are meeting mid May, actually I think either this week or next at least that’s what I heard when I talked to someone in the admissions committee. That being said, I was informed that decisions aren’t necessarily released the day they meet. I would anticipate either hearing around May 25th or June 15th. And I also know people who interviewed early (like in April) and didn’t hear back until June 15th

I don’t think you should go by that metric 🙂 Someone on last years forum said that some dates had 10 people and some only had 4 in a group. It’s likely variable as those who receive II’s have the option to choose what their date is. I definitely have had thoughts about how many people have been interviewed but in the end, someone that amazes them (even later in the cycle) has a shot. If you’re given an interview, they already think you’re application fits their school, now it’s just about personality! Let’s all hang in!

I agree that I wouldn’t necessary judge it like that. Even if they’re only interviewing around 120 students, I’m sure they offer the dates for so students and faculty have the flexibility to schedule appropriately.

My afternoon group had 6 people, and if I remember correctly, the morning group had 8 people.

During our interview, it was mentioned that admissions decisions would come in two waves: one mid May and once at the end of May. That means some of those who were interviewed can hear back within the next few weeks or so.

Good luck everyone! Remember that neither this program, nor your GPA, now MCAT score defines you. From the words of my doctor friend: “anyone who truly wants to be a doctor will get there. It might be harder or take longer, but you will get there.”

Whats the difference between track I and track II?

Track 1 is MCAT retake ... i.e. their score was below a 499 and they will they will be placed in MCAT study courses along with their DPMS curriculum and will need to retake the MCAT.

Track 2 does not need to retake the MCAT....but will take medical school courses (that are pass/fail) along with DPMS curriculum in order to matriculate.

Is anyone still experiencing delays with the portal? I sent in my materials before the deadline but nothing has been marked as received.

The school website said that because it's true. I know fellow DPMS students who sent in their application on the last day and got in. Late applicants have just as much a chance of getting interviewed as early applicants. Last year they extended interviews to make sure that all good candidates had a fair shot of getting into the program.

Please call the Pre-medical & Pre-health office and ask for Thelicia Hill, the DPMS academic administrator, at 215.762.4692. I would email [email protected] also to have a paper trail indicating you've contacted them.

Please remember that there is a lot of things happening at the med school right now, e.g. graduation prep, year 2 step 1 prep, etc., and they will get to your application in due time. I know this isn't anything that will ease you completely, but I was in your shoes, and I can tell you everything will be seen by the admission committee.

@SparklesDuWang @bob_boy do you guys know what percent of the current DPMS class will matriculate to Drexel medical school this fall?

It’s still not officially decided, but I can tell you the last time we were updated it was around 60% and unfortunately that number could have dropped since then. I know that stats seems scary, but those who did not make it are working with the program director and biochem professor to strengthen their application, get a letter of recommendation and get into a medical school somewhere else. The faculty trulY cares about the students

what is the reason they can't make contract? Is the coursework or mainly because of the MCAT for track I?

This year it was coursework. I think all but 2 people I’m track 1 had to retake the mcat so track 1 did great with the MCAT this year

I was complete 4/23, but still haven’t heard anything.... I hope I get an interview request

Same here.... i was complete in mid April and haven't heard anything.. Im not losing hope though!

I would like to add more to this. I think that there are 2 major contributing factors this year for those not making contract.

First, some students didn’t learn how to turn their performance around in a timely fashion. What I mean by this is that some students had to learn how to study for each class and see what worked for them, and by the time they figured it out, it was too late. That can be circumvented by utilizing the resources we have around us quicker rather than later. A lot of people are used to having the time to turn it around that they had in college, but we don’t have that luxury here. That’s why it’s essential to ask for help and utilize the resources such as tutoring, asking prior and current DPMS for aid, and talking to the professors (amongst many other resources) early. The sheer amount of material we have to go through can quickly snowball out of control because it waits for no one.

Second, I’d say that people dealing with anxiety and related mental health issues that are born out of high stress environments is a huge culprit. Most people have never experienced this type of environment before, and they imagine that they’ll be excluded from anxiety. Here’s a wake up call that this environment will decrease your quality of life and mental resilience, and for some it is to the point of diagnosable anxiety. That’s why I preach self-compassion and self-care so much because it’ll help when the anxiety arises. There’s nothing weak nor shameful in experiencing these things. Finding the ways to lessen the effects of anxiety and other learning curveballs is a task that everyone had to deal with at some point in this program. Also, those who would’ve benefitted from having testing accommodations didn’t pursue them thinking that it would make them look weak or have an unfair advantage or plain didn’t know how to receive them. I can say from personal experience that it’s not true. It allows an equal opportunity to succeed at the tests. This is great for those who have learning obstacles such as ADHD.

As Bob_boy said, the MCAT was largely a huge success this year for the vast majority of the retakers, and I was in track 1. I felt very prepared by the time January came along because of the classes we take.

These aren’t every reason why, but one thing to take away is that it’s possible to do well in this program. It’s up to each individual person to be reflective and honest and willing to ask for help when the time comes.

Can anyone that’s already interviewed recently for DPMS give some pointers on how to prepare for the interview. And for anyone wondering, stellar stats aren’t a requirement for an interview. As long as you fall within the required stats that the application guidelines say you have a shot. Good luck to everyone

Submitted late Feb and have not heard anything yet...anyone else?

I recently got a rejection from DPMS. I applied back in Feb so you guys know they've started updating people.

I’m also a DPMSer! The people who have dropped so far was because they were doing poorly I’m one course. However, it is totally doable and the staff wants you to succeed. Track 1 doesn’t take the MCAT until the 3rd week in January or so. If they don’t make the score the first time they can retake in March.

Feel free to ask me any questions!

Does financial aid cover the cost of this program? My concern is it’s a 3 semester program for one Finacial year. At there scholarships given out? How was your overall experience?

Thank you.

When did you hear back? Was it by portal update or email? Did you get an interview or was it a straight rejection?

Unfortunately there are no scholarships for DPMS or none that I know of. You can take out up to the full cost of attendance in loans which should cover living expenses if you’re wise about how to budget your money.

Straight rejection via email and then I checked on the portal.

Speaking of living expenses, what areas do students tend to live in around the school?

Everything happens for a reason, keep your head up. Maybe God has an acceptance in store for you instead this year!!
Thank you! I actually got into a program in my state in Texas, so I had already decided on that program when I heard back from Drexel. Good luck to you guys as well on your medical journeys.

Has anyone also applied to the GEMS program, which one would you go if accepted?

I considered applying, but I'm graduating from my undergraduate there this May, and I didn't want to potentially spend another 5 years there if I could avoid it. This is more specific to me, but I heard great things about the program. Also, DPMS has a conditional acceptance for those who do well, so it is comparable, if not better, then GEMs in the ability to matriculate directly after the program.

how often do can you get tutoring? And how many classes can you get tutored for ?
What street is the center city campus located on?
If you live in the city, are there any good quiet study spaces ?

For our class it seems like about 2/3 live near the medical school and 1/3 either in center city (near classes) or university city (near the main campus). Most seem to live within walking distances of shuttles that will take you in between campuses.

You can get tutored for all classes you take. I think they limit you to 5 hours a week but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the limit. Most would go for around 3 hours a week. The center city campus is in the new college building near 15th and Race street.

Congrats, glad it worked out for you! Best of luck in your future endeavors, you got this!

You can get a max of up to 5 hours of tutoring per week with a max of 2 hours per class per day. So if you wanted to use all 5 hours in one day, technically you can with 2 hours for one class, 2 hours for another, and 1 for another. I used all 5 hours every week for any of the classes I wanted help in, which mainly were biochem, microanatomy, and physio. I found that the more effective tutoring I did, the better I did on my exams.

As for effective tutoring, what I mean is going into the session knowing what parts of the material you don’t comprehend well, discuss it, work on practice problems that are about it, and try to integrate that material with things you do know. The tutors aren’t teachers, but they’re great at filling in any gaps of knowledge. With tutoring you can be reflective and hone in on your weak spots.

I do happen to live in Center City, and it takes me about a 15 minutes walk to get to New College Building (NCB). I personally can’t study at home, and so I have scoured the city for places to study. As for quiet places, there are a ton of quiet places to study such as cafes and bakeries. Just know this, almost all cafes and stores here in Center City close at 7 pm. I did find one cafe called Good Karma cafe that closes at 10 pm, which has a bottomless cup of coffee for $4, and the Starbucks on 16th and Walnut closes at 10 also. Interestingly, the diners here don’t have WiFi, and there aren’t any 24 hour cafes. So, I found myself studying at NCB in empty class rooms often if I wanted to study later into the evening because NCB is open 24 hours. The great thing is that Drexel offers an escort service home in a car for those that live within one mile of NCB starting at 7:30 pm every evening. I would have classmates that studied with me late at NCB who live in East Falls, the Med school area, and they would take the last shuttle at 11 pm.

Congrats! I’m from Texas. May I ask which program?

Congrats! I’m from Texas. May I ask which program?

The med sci program at UNTHSC!

Rejected. Didn’t get an email but was on portal.

Looking for a piece of advice. I have been accepted to a DO program, but I am not sure if I feel ready to tackle med school curriculum just yet, would you guys recommend going into DPMS or GEMS program in that case or go right in to med school
