I live in a one bedroom with an east view so I pay $685/month (other prices are: 1bd with inside view = ~$665, and west view = ~$720; 2bd are ~$950 total and ~$1050 total for the larger one) and all apartments come with unlimited utilities. The only extra thing you'll need to get on your own is internet (I pay $30/month for 50Mbps from TWC) - CT has their own representative/rates.

I love the convenience of CT for sure. I also love that there's a library and lounge in CT so that I can have a change in environment when studying (the library also has free printing which can be super convenient haha). The only downside is that there's not much else around here except for the school so if I ever want to go to the store or get food, it requires driving. Which definitely isn't the worst thing in the world. I thought about moving next year but honestly, for what I pay in rent and the benefits of having unlimited utilities, I'd rather pay a few extra dollars in gas to drive somewhere than deal with the pain of moving haha.

Most of the people around the area are pretty harmless. CT itself has a secure gate that you have to use your key fob to enter both when walking or by car. Most nights there is also a security guard at the gate. KCU security also circles around the school and CT area making sure it's safe to walk.

I haven't really heard of anything too bad happening since I've been here. Some people will try to get your attention or ask for money but KCU will tell you to not give them anything and keep walking. KCU also has an app for your phone that you can dial them immediately with (you open it on your phone as you walk) and you can get a security escort if you feel that uncomfortable.

Honestly? From what people on here told me, I thought it was going to be a way worse neighborhood. But it's really not that bad. We're in between two elementary schools and the only "bad area" notorious for crimes is the 7-Eleven but people still go there all the time. The security is way more than is needed for the area but it's appreciated nonetheless.

(I walk to school and back everyday at various times for reference.)

That's great to know. And it's great to be able to walk to campus. I hate to drive all the time. I was just recently accepted and seriously considering to attend the school. The downside is of course it's far from home (I'm from CA) and the cold snowy weather. But with CT so close to the school, I guess I can just walk to campus and not wake up an extra hour earlier to shovel. How soon should I apply to get a single room in CT? and preferably a west view apt.

I'm from FL so I feel all of those pains haha. But CT was definitely the best option for not being able to apt shop too much and I definitely don't want to be responsible for driving in the winter haha.

I would call the office and ask what the waitlist looks like and when they usually fill up. They won't know for sure who's moving out until spring so everyone goes on a waitlist until they can start assigning apts. I would say definitely try to get on it by December if you're considering KCU.

Random question: Do CT apartments come pre-furnished?
 
In previous years it seems they accepted a very high percentage of interviewees, is this no longer the case?

They do not! BUT major upside to this apt complex is that they have on site storage units so what I did was buy all of my furniture super cheap from students moving out. They put it into a storage unit for me and then I was able to get it all when I moved in. It was SO CONVENIENT having driven 20 hours with only what could fit in my car haha

I highly recommend this option for those wanting to live in CT and don't already have the furniture/means to move it.

who knows. the change in admin with Dr dubin may have altered that scale....see what i did there?

What's the laundry situation like at CT? Do you have a washer and dryer in your room or is there laundry machines on every floor? How much do they cost? ...

There are laundry rooms on every floor with three or four washers/driers per floor. Each machine costs $1.50 and I've never had a problem with finding an available machine or anything.

Interviewed here last week and was honestly blown away by the school. The city is safe, clean and there seems to be a lot to do. The facilities are great and it appears that they are constantly renovating and updating them. The faculty was what impressed me more than anything. They're very adamant about the fact that they're there to help you achieve your goals and become whatever type of doctor you want to be, in whatever part of the country you want to practice in. In my experience, this was a stark contrast to other DO schools that really push a career in primary care, as well as practicing in the region after you graduate.

A little insight into the interview day (how's that for alliteration). You'll be given a few speeches/presentations by the faculty, after which you'll be able to ask questions to a panel of current med students once the faculty leaves the room. From there you'll be given a tour of the campus and be treated to lunch. The interview portion of the day follows lunch and although I can't give a ton of detail, I will say that my experience was incredibly low stress. It was very relaxed and conversational. They only have access to your secondary application, so just make sure you know that thing well and be able to elaborate on things you said. Hope this helps!

Congrats!! When did you submit the secondary? How long since the secondary submitted to get your complete email on 09/17?
 
got the II today!! completed Oct. 1 (got an email from KCU saying it would take 3 weeks). signed up for Nov. 18 interview!

Correction: Submitted secondary 9/16. Was told they received secondary on 9/17. Complete on 10/12. II today 10/20
 
Alrighty... after some discussion with my right and left sides of my brain I will be withdrawing my acceptance from KCU. Nothing against the school whatsoever, as a matter of fact if it wasn't for my other acceptance I would more than happily attend. Hopefully it goes out to one of you hardworking dudes/dudettes, as you worked hard and deserve it! Maybe I'll see ya in residency.

As for those who will be interviewing in the future... everyone at my interview day said the interview was very very laid back and conversational. I don't remember the exact details, but I talked about the food in KC a lot and how much I enjoyed the city and I think my interviewers talked more than me to be honest. I obviously had a few questions that were related to my application (secondary), but they were none different than anything I had faced in a job interview/other med interview before. Just be yourself, be genuine. Honestly, I wouldn't even prep for the interview. I remember watching Monday Night Football the night before and screaming at the TV until the game ended (woot niners woot lol #2-4). I was worried the next day that I should've maybe spent that time prepping, but after the interview I was so happy I didn't. Get yourself a drink the night before (KC has some awesome local beers) and some BBQ and watch some football or do whatever you do to relax. On interview day just be yourself 🙂

I'm anxious that I haven't submitted yet and I think I'm edging on burning out from secondaries, but for the question, "Describe a time when you had to prioritize multiple obligations in order to be successful", do they mean:
1. Describe a time when you had multiple things going on and describe/explain how you succeeded in managing those time commitments
2. Describe a time when you had one thing going on and describe/explain how you had to manage different parts of that one thing to succeed

Or are those the same or would either one work? At this point, the words on the screen just seem scrambled to me.
My example/answer right now is more like #1.

Help please, and thanks!

I went with #2. I wrote about my current job and balancing all the different studies we have going on. I think they just want to see that you can manage your time well, so as long as you can get that point across, you should be fine!
 
for those who interviewed, were y'all really done by 4:30? All the flights that I see are at 6 pm and if the interview day does end at 4:30 id be really pushing to get to the flight on time.

It depends on when you interview. The people who didn't get out until 4:30 ended up having to wait for a long time for others to interview. Those who interview first are done quite a bit earlier. I thought the school asked for travel plans? I would call them and they can probably make sure you are one of the first interviews, which would give you plenty of time to get to the airport.

I got to my flight that was scheduled at 4:20pm with quite a bit of time to spare. Send them your travel itinerary and they will do their best to accommodate you.
 
Submitted secondary 10/22.
Seems like a 2-3 week wait to receive a complete email and 3 weeks max to receive a decision after being complete.
