Congrats everyone! The schools must be nearing full now since it's close to Dec right? Still keeping my fingers crossed for an II! Was marked complete on 10/20 so just waiting now. This would be my top choice if I get an II here.

I know that's making me nervous. I interview here in like two weeks. Hopefully its not filling up 🙁

I'd imagine there are still some spots! I have an II for feb and called the admissions office because I was worried about the number of seats that will be available and I was told that because of the Joplin campus they'll be more than likely still interviewing into mid-late march to fill spots! So stay patient

Anybody know how/when we go about applying for the dual degree program? I'm interested in the MS in bioethics.

EDIT: I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it when I submitted my secondary, and I think that's when you marked whether you were interested?

Application for the bioethics isn't until towards the end of your first semester. So for the current M1 class applications are due early December I believe.

Just sent an email to cancel my interview on 12/7. I hope one of you can move up and grab that spot.

Accepted to Joplin campus and didn't fill out a campus preference form either....not sure how I feel about it since I know nothing about the area really! Can anyone who is going to go there tell me why they chose it? Would really appreciate it!! 🙂

With that good of a upward trend and if your mcat, ECs, and other areas are well beyond the minimum standards you def should send an app in 🙂 wouldnt hurt!

Hey AlteredScale, thank you for the encouragement a few months back. I got in today!

Can a current student speak to what it's like having all courses curved to an 85% average? Is that something that typically the students here love? If im understanding this correctly, I'm imagining courses where the class average may end up being like 78% on an exam and everyone gets a bonus 7% to their score. Is that correct?

It seems great but then again can an exam be curved down if say the class average is an 88%?

Also, is this curve in a test by test basis or only at the very end of a course once all of the final grades for each student has been tallied?

I guess what I'm asking is, is this something I should be excited about having at KCU, o rsomething I should feel neutral about?

I definitely wouldn't try to study anything before school starts, but I do recommend reading "How the Immune System Works" I didn't take immuno in undergrad, so I read this book over the summer before classes started. It really helps you understand the big picture, so when you get to immuno you're just using the lecture material to fill in the details. If you don't understand the big picture, then you're just flat out memorizing and it's going to be hard to answer questions. The book is pretty short and an easy read, and you can skip the last few chapters.

Any similar suggestion for biochemistry?

The curve only is applied if it helps the class. They will never curve down.

This is applied at the end of the course.

You def will appreciate this curve especially in year 2 🙂

You should get an email soon with a link to the facebook group and a lot of other acceptance info!

Anyone hear back from interviews during the week of 11/7 to 11/11?

Anyone hear back from interviews during the week of 11/7 to 11/11?

Based on the information provided in this thread, the adcom meets about every 7-12 days to discuss those who interviewed 2-3 weeks prior to that meeting. The adcom just met yesterday to discuss those who interviewed 10/28-11/4. Based on this, you should hear back next week or the week after. I hope that helps!

I am currently researching KCU since I need to make a deposit by December 15th in order to secure my seat for the class. I would like to ask if anyone has a link to the catalog that shows KCU courses and schedules during 1-4 years...I am having a hard time finding detailed information about KCU courses and curriculum on their new website, which is just general information...any help is appreciated!

2) Does KCU have OMM rotation during third or fourth year, if so is it 4 weeks?

Thank You

While we're on the subject, could you explain how the grades work? Are there As and Bs, if so what percentage in a course translates to each letter grade? If there are no letter grades how is a student's GPA calculated?

They just added a sample 3rd and 4th year schedule to their curriculum page, not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but hope it helps 🙂

There are letter grades with +/- as well. You can find the breakdown of what constitutes what by searching google. The magic numbers are 70+ is passing (c), and curve is to 85 (b) and an a is 94+.

No grades are rounded. So if your overall score after a curve is 69.99, that is an F. Or, 93.99 is an A-

That sounds dreadful hahaha, do people hate it?

Also, do many people organically achieve a 94% in classes, or is that typically the result of the curve.

It is what it is. I've been stuck by the no rounding thing 3 times where I was within .1 of the next grade. They are really clear about it, and even covered it during accepted students day.

As far as getting an "organic" A, I have no idea. Based on some gunner speak, probably. But not being one of those, I can't answer that.

Courses are available and descriptions are usually available. Hard for them to give a firm description of course sequencing in the curriculum because it adjusts every year. The feedback they receive from current students is what they utilize to help wth these ongoing adjustments.

There is an OMM rotation available that you can do as an elective (4weeks). I believe the Denver site has a required 2 week OMM rotation as well.

Interviewing here next week and I put that I prefer both Campus locations. I have a strong research background and would like to continue to conduct research as a med student. Since there are no research opportunities at Joplin, I want to switch my campus preference. How would I go about contacting them? Should I ask during my interview or email them?

I would ask them during the interview day 🙂

I emailed them a few weeks ago with this same question. They told me that I would still be considered for both campuses, but they would add my change in preference to my file.
