What I a
m getting at (I just talked about this recently in another thread) is that you are responsible for making sure you get to where you want to be. You're not going to remember that brilliant CHF lecture a year and a half later when it comes up on boards, but CHF will come back to you when you are reviewing it in DIT or First Aid 6 weeks out from Step 1. Don't rely on the curriculum, match lists, good/bad quality of your teachers and preceptors. You will be given everything you need to succeed no matter where you go, but it is on you to get that 250 to make sure you get into ortho or whatever it is you want to do. If you don't get a 250 and you know that's what you needed, you can't blame match lists or whatever for not matching. Have to type in a hurry as I'm on IM right now, but I hope that makes sense.

To add to this, Mizzou only put up 5 general surgery residents for their 2014 match list too. I know that these specific med schools focus on primary care because we have a huge rural shortage. It goes both ways.. they recruit applicants interested in primary care and that's what they value so it translates to what they put out. So I wouldn't say the schools aren't good enough to put out specialists, it's just really not what the priority is anywhere in Missouri/Kansas right now...

KCUMB should have sent me my news yesterday. Now I have the flu and I won't even enjoy it when it comes :hungover:

Just to quote the new dean word for word. He said that he doesn't expect all of us to be interested in primary care and he doesn't want a school of mostly primary care. He said nurse practitioners and PA's are going to help a lot with the shortage of primary care physicians and that KCUMB's goal is to help us attain the job in medicine that resonates with us the most. Whether neurosurgery or pediatrics.

Yeah, Kcumb really didn't push the whole primary care thing. All that our student ambassadors talked about was specialization

Time goes by so slowly! I am sitting in class and the only thing that I can hear is tick-tock on the clock (hey, that's a Ke$ha song).

Time goes by so fast. It's hard to believe 11 months ago I was nervously preparing for my interview at KCUMB.

In retrospect it goes by fast, but at the present moment it is going by very slowly! It's funny when I think back to almost 6 years ago when I embarked on this journey to become a doctor and I thought "This is seriously going to take forever until I'm even in medical school!" Now I look back and I think "That wasn't sooo bad"

Nooooooo.... I got waitlisted.... Burn....

Dang, I felt super confident about that interview too...my interviewer told me "We will see you next year."

same... and I feel like Im competitive enough. Maybe they get more picky as the seats fill up?

you guys haven't been rejected...! keep your heads up

yeah but Ive spent months getting my hopes up. I'll look at it as a rejection until something happens

Yeah, possibly...but there are just so many seats! I wonder how much movement there is on the wait list. Well, we will see! Hopefully they say yes at a later time!

Yeah, same here. I've gotta look at this as a rejection unfortunately. Maybe I'll get in at a later time, and if so then hooray, buuuut I'm not going to count on that 100%

I'll be the first one in this thread to say I got straight up rejected post interview. I really think it was due to my stats. I'm a good interviewer and the interview went pretty well and I felt good afterwards

yeah Ive learned my lesson in hoping for maybes haha

I'm about 75% sure I'm going to turn down my acceptance here. Hopefully it'll go to one of you guys!

Is acceptance from the wait list on a rolling basis or do they do it at the end of the cycle?

Accepted!!!!!! I'm definitely going here. Time to cancel my other interviews and decline other acceptances. I thought for sure i was going to get waitlisted. How do i possibly go take an evolution test right now, I can't even think straight.

Sorry for those of you who were waitlisted, we could still end up being classmates. I personally know of three guys at my school that were accepted to KCUMB and have recently decided to take acceptances elsewhere. Keep your head up and hope for some movement.

****. When did you guys interview and what were your stats?

Has anyone from 10/23 on heard? I'm worried they've run out of spots.

Good luck man - hopefully you have other prospects!

Interviewed 10-14. 3.5, 3.47 with a bunch of classes in process (retakes) and 7, 8, 9 (p, v, b). Strong clinical experience, but very little research. Good/great letters.

Good luck man - hopefully you have other prospects!

Thanks I'm thinking MCAT broke me down. Gearing up for next cycle. I'm quite hopefully after I'm done with these next two semesters.

Good luck to all of you on the wait list. Seems like KCUMB was a bit more strict with that interview day. Looks like they are possibly cracking down on acceptances.
Seems like it. I loved KCUMB and thought it would be a fantastic place to study medicine, but I'm leaning towards PCOM, DMU or DCOM right now - althought I wouldn't be opposed to being pulled off the waitlist ;)

So I asked and Ms. Harper said they review wait listers on Nov 17th, and December 15th, though they may not admit anyone at that time. Then they look again beginning in March and start filling the class as people withdraw their acceptances. So fellow wait listers, those are our dates!

I'm sorry to hear about all the waitlists.

There is a lot of movement in November and December when the deposits are due.

IF you're really interested in KCUMB make sure you send updates and continue to show interest.

If i emailed Ms. Harper a few weeks ago, do you think it would be more appropriate to re-send the email or text her? I'm a bit iffy about sending a text message, but maybe she does just prefer that method of communication?

She wouldn't give out her number unless she wanted students to text her.

Just be cordial and ask politely on the status. I txted her when I was waiting for my decision last year and she got back almost immediately.
