LIU c/o 2025

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When I asked for a general idea, I got my exact ranking. But I think as the send more offers out, we “move up” because she worded it as “presently at *rank*” so it may take time for her to respond as ranks may be “changing” as offers are sent or people let them know they are not interested in a spot
Weird
She said she was being overwhelmed with the requests so she can’t tell me anything. That kinda sucks

I sent an email and got a response saying that they cannot offer any timeline. Frustrating that some people are getting info and others are not. I feel bad that she is being overwhelmed but if they would just let people know what was happening maybe she wouldn’t be getting so many emails 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm assuming that since she said they are only generating a waitlist on April 15th I should put down my deposit on another school

Hi everyone! I am a current student at LIU-CVM and I have one room vacant for next year. If you are interested in living off-campus, 5 minutes away and under $900 per month, feel free to message me! Congrats to everyone that has been accepted, and good luck to those waiting to hear back!

I am officially starting to worry! I interviewed on 2/15 and still have not heard back yet. Anyone who interviewed on 2/15 have you heard anything?

Turns out no one is going to hear anything for awhile
I emailed the lady in admissions and she said everyone whose interviewed and not heard back is basically on the waiting list lmao

Ok, so if they were going to accept us we would have already heard back? It would have been nice for them to let us know what is going on so we can decide what school we are going to accept.

She said they accepted the top 130 candidates from the first interview. From there, they reranked the waitlist following the second round of interviews
Basically were all SOL until April 15 lol
They are only moving down the list as people accept or reject their seat offer. So were basically waiting on those people who got in to make their decision

Also, just to throw this out there, for anyone who is accepting spots at another school and does not want to be on the waiting list, I’d contact LIU and let them know. Most schools usually appreciate that so it’s easier moving through their list.

I emailed Dr. Inzana today basically asking for some guidance as to how LIU's admission process would be unfolding in the coming weeks/months as well as my personal waitlist rank (I interviewed 2/15). This is what she said:

"We have sent letters to the top 145 candidates. When they accept or decline we will move down the list. On April 15th, all applicants that received an offer must declare which offer they will accept. On that date we will finalize our first offers and generate a wait list. All I can tell you is you are in a good position to receive an offer but it will take more time."

Pretty vague response, but still helpful. Let the waiting game continue :dead:

If it eases your minds . Almost all schools only tell waitlist students if they are off waitlist around April 15th. I think since liu is so new, and since they had the Casper they interviewed as a way to select their top choices but anyone whom they interviewed was someone they would consider. Meaning you either got accepted or waitlisted. But if you were denied you wouldn't have had an interview at all. I know its frustrating but many people who got accepted won't make a decision until closer to April 15th because they also have other acceptances or waitlists they are waiting on. So honestly just hang tight. We're all in the same boat for one school or another.

I dont remember where I read this but I remmeber reading that out of the people who get accepted to liu the attendance rate isn't as high. Aka lots of people choose a different school (out of fear probably of lack of accreditation, new program etc ) so that means it wouldn't suprise me that the waitlist moves fast and it seems it does as it has allready gone from 130 to 145 offers .

The biggest concern right now is that they aren’t telling us who is on the waitlist. They just left us post interview without any information and aren’t updating us kinda sucks :/

I’m pretty sure a lot of schools don’t do an official waitlist until the April 15 deadline that way they can see how far they move down their list before that day as it could open space for more people at the bottom of the waitlist

I’m not sure what you mean
It looks like Every other school has released acceptances and informed people whether or not they are on the alternate list

They could have. I just figured by waiting for an official waitlist, they’ll be able to have more people on it because there’s already a ranked list in existence but a waiting list is usually used after the national acceptance day and with being a new school they probably don’t know yet how long of a wait list to make to do it before that day

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but they could have informed us that we even made it on the waitlist regardless of our rank so that we are not obsessively checking our emails 23 times a day expecting to hear something. Every other school informed me that I was put on the waitlist. Iowa State informed the applicants about being an alternate and we don't find out our rank until March 22. LIU is the only school that I know of that does not email or give updates post-interview. How Long Island runs makes it hard for other applicants that need to decide what school they will be going to. For instance, I got accepted to the University of Illinois but I am still waiting to make a decision because I am expecting to hear back from Long Island. Sorry about going on a rant but this makes me super heated.

It’s definitely annoying, don’t take me wrong. But I think it’s mainly due to the newness because they don’t have as much data from past years to know how many people reject spots before the April 15th or how long (how many people) to make an official waitlist

But thats the point. If you interviewed you're either accepted or waitlisted. They only interviewed who they think would be good, because the Casper was like the first interview round. Im not sure what more you guys want. They told you you are waitlisted if you haven't heard back and interviewed. If you didn't interview then obv you where rejected because interviews are over. Sure they could send out rejection letters but u have to realize they dont have that big of a staff Iike other schools. Heck they dont even have their own building yet ! This is their first year balancing teaching and working with students while trying to get new students so im sure they have a lot to learn.

I mean im on waitlist at Cornell and its the same thing as liu. I won't find out until April 15th. And I dont even get a rank. Its how many places do it. The only difference is cornell sent me an email saying im waitlisted and liu told you all you're waitlisted if you interviewed but haven't heard back . Does an official email really make much of a difference ? Its definetly not the only school that does it. Cornell didn't even have interviews.
If you got in somewhere else just put the deposit down for that school when you are ready and if you get into liu and you want to go there then just switch your seat. That's how everyone on any waitlist does it. Atleast you have another option many people here don't. And anyways if you applied to Illinois you must have felt you could go there at some point so it shouldn't be that big of an issue right? Maybe its not your first choice but is liu your first?

That’s how people on waitlists for it and that’s how people get acceptances after April 15. Yes, it’s a **** process but it is what it is. Don’t take it out on one school. Yes I’m frustrated in general because I’m anxious from waiting

I'm not taking it out on the school i was explaining it to people to people. Im confused lol. Im not on waitlist im accepted. I was explaining how the waitlist works.

This is definitely relatable! I agree that their whole process has been frustrating due to the limited information and the sense of being disorganized. I emailed Dr. Inzana too and got a very vague response. LIU was never very high up on my list anyways, and I have 3 other acceptances to decide between anyways.

I literally haven’t heard a word from this school..... not even an interview invite or a rejection notice :/
Same. I feel like even if they offered me an interview at this point I would reject it because I don't want to go to a school with such poor communication and planning.

Same I’m most likely going to decline if I get pulled off the waitlist. It’s incredibly unprofessional to inform some people where they stand while others not. Every school sends out an alternate list when they send out acceptances. The fact that we have to annoy admissions with emails to find out what’s going on is absurd.

I'm changing the subject back to jokes. You all have to chill. Its a brand new school they arent going to have their **** together like the established school. Give them a break.

Joke:
Q: Did you hear about the racing snail who got rid of his shell? A: He thought it would make him faster, but it just made him sluggish.

Lmao imagine telling people to chill and not to worry about their future
If you’re saying you’ll decline a spot because of your other acceptance why are you concerned about not hearing anything? They do a rolling admissions, there’s no point for a official waiting list until they absolutely have to. Yes, there’s a list of us all ranked, yes it’s not fair that they told some of us are ranks when we emailed and others not, but that’s most likely due to some of us getting our emails in before she got overwhelmed. If you’re no longer interested in a seat, just let the school know because some of us have this as our first choice or only possible offer left. Holding on to offers when you know you’re going to decline a seat if you get it is just not worth it. Many if not all schools encourage applicants to contact them to remove them from the list if they get accepted to a school and know they will not take a seat at their school if offered. It’s a new school and they have barely any data to base off of how many people accept or decline spots, as people studying science, we should all understand that they have essentially nothing to base numbers on in order to even try to establish an early waitlist.

Because as strenuous as this process is for me, I did not sacrifice my mental health and put in countless of sleepless nights for someone to tell me to chill about my future. Yes, I have an offer somewhere else but I would still like to have options. Maybe the school I got into is not the best choice to for me and I’d like to see where else I can go? To have someone to tell me to chill and not worry about my future is a slap in the face

Maybe saying chill out isn’t the best phrasing, but if you’re saying you’ll most likely turn down an offer, you’re obviously not interested in the school. As I’ve been saying the school is NEW, this isn’t OSU or some other school that’s been established for how long. Do you really think those schools were 100% organized and had their method complete before accepting students? Investing in the program and designing a great veterinary program is priority over having a faster application process until their program is more established. I’d be more disappointed to get into a school quickly and their program be horrible because they focused on the wrong areas. Obviously the process is horrible on mental health, trust me, I know. But do you do everything 100% when you first start it? Obviously it may not take you multiple years to “fix” or more so improve it, but that stuff is also a smaller scale in comparison to what the school is going through.

I’m not arguing with you about the school and it’s admissions process. I’m talking about being told to chill. Regardless of how I feel about the school, it is disrespectful to tell all of us to calm down. I understand, the person got in and doesn’t have to stress about it. But telling everyone else to just stop worrying about their future and to chill is incredibly rude.

But at the same time stressing about it doesn’t help you or any of us. It just makes it feel like it’s dragging out more and taking longer. At least personally and I’m sure for some others, stressing about it makes it worse.

Because at this point all you're doing is complaining about the same thing over and over again. You aren't worrying about your future you'll find out in April just like any other waitlisted person in any other school. We've been through this so many times. And you have an acceptance elsewhere and you allready said you'd reject liu so its getting old.

Listen i have other places im waiting. On and im not sitting on their forum complaining all day everyday about the same thing over and over again. So stop acting like I put you down. You all are just repeating the same damn complaint everyday. Ironically I remember a few pages ago you went after me for not accepting my seat right away and asking some question. And you where telling me I shouldn't talk about it and whatever and to stop questioning things. So its ok for you to go after me but not for me to say something like chill. Jesus. Im sorry you didn't get an acceptance but you don't need to take it out on everyone. Its better for your mental health to not think about it every minute. Heck you think im thinking about cornell every minute because I won't hear back for another 2 month? And guess what we dont get a rank there. And btw many schools can pull you off waitlist even as late as August. Are you going to complain about the waitlist up until August? You have an acceptance elsewhere be happy and let people keep discussing things other than the same thing everyday about how you all think the process sucks. If you think it sucks so much maybe email them and tell them how to improve because ranting here won't help.

And the constant focus and complaining and negativity won't do anything to help your mental health, it'll just wreck it more. At this point in time there are two things you can do: keep complaining about the process not being to your liking or move on from complaining and just wait and see what happens. Accept a spot at one of the other schools you've been accepted to and wait to see what happens with LIU, but if you're this unhappy with the school at this point, you likely won't be happy going there. I'm just saying that honestly, not to discourage you from going. I should have listed to my distaste for my undergrad school, but I didn't, and I didn't like the experience.

hello everyone, just a reminder that each and every one of us is stressed and frustrated and taking this situation seriously. please stop arguing on this forum and taking up space when people are looking for serious information here.
all we know currently is that there have been 140 acceptances sent out and those that have interviews so far are on a theoretical waitlist that will be solidified on April 15th once people that were accepted have declined offers.
let’s all be patient and don’t put useless things in here like your personal problems with someone you don’t even know.
good luck to everyone! i’m crossing my fingers for y’all

You do realize that I have said this 500 times and that's why we were having the "argument" because everyone kept ignoring me and kept complaining about the same thing over and over again. Even though I explained it and others did to over and over again. Also no one is looking for any serious information at this point. Accepted students are asking questions on fb and all thats left here are people complaining.

Has anyone else heard anything?
Not yet! I marked on my calendar that they’re sending official acceptance letters by mail on March 19th. I’m basically not expecting to hear anything until after April 15th at this point.

Well apparently I can’t type fast at work. But I was curious if anyone heard anything to know how many more offers had been sent out at this point.

I think forums like these are suitable for any type of expression in response to the situation. If this is how someone needs to vent, let it be. People are here to communicate their feelings about the schools, if they are excited/sad/frustrated/etc. and can ask for clarity. I interviewed in the first round and have emailed with Dr. Inzana sparingly. It’s been frustrating, but I’m glad to hear others are frustrated too.

Personally, I think this argument you’re referring to comes from a misunderstanding on both sides. You talk about how you’re waiting on Cornell and there’s frustration there. But you have an acceptance with LIU so you have options. Some people don’t have any at all, so try to look through that lens of this being it and have sympathy. People just want their experience waiting on communication with this school to be validated.

I hope you can see what I’m saying. Any person going into a medical field should be able to understand all views/perspectives and communicate back in a constructive, respectful, mature way. I understand what you’re saying in your messages, I understand how these waitlists work. But honestly, it still feels good to know that I’m not the only one anxiously waiting to hear back about anything.

Any one of us could be a peer to you in the future working in the field of veterinary medicine, be it a school or professional peer later down the line. We should all keep that in mind and work on better and more sympathetic communication to one another. We all want to be here, all want to go to vet school and strengthen the field. Just be nice! Take a minute to understand the other person before you respond. And as always, if you don’t have anything nice (or respectful or mature) to say, please don’t say anything at all.

I dont know where you are getting this ? Save the cows has other acceptances. I was the one that told her to stop complaining because others on here don't have any. Idk why you are all going after me. She literally told me I cant talk about my acceptance when I had questions and tnats totally ok? So I'm not allowed to ask questions but she can complain about something 300 times ? Venting is one thing. But repeatedly batching about the same thing over and over again is ridiculous. Its a waste of space and the answer isn't going to change. All of the accepted students left expect for me. Did you all notice that? I was trying to be helpful by giving information and she completely ignored it.

Also just because we all have the same profession doesn't mean we have to like each other. Infact a lot of people hate each other and still work together. Im also not going to be working with save the cows because I have zero interest in cows. And if we went to the same school we do not have to be friends. Its not how this all works . We dont all have to live in a happy hippy community holding hands and singing kumbaya while healing animals.

Stress causes people to become emotional. This is natural of course, but there has to be a healthy outlet for it that does not continue into negativity. Veterinary medicine is almost nothing but frustration. Sometimes you need to vent, but then you have to let it go. Letting yourself dwell in the negative does not lend itself to good mental health. That is a huge issue in our profession. What you are feeling now with application is actually quite pale for the future that awaits you even going through school and even more so in practice. Please be kind to each other as best you can, and also do your best to find that way to release anxiety and find the positives in life.

As someone who is older and been through all this and has stuck around to see the anxious applicants each cycle and tries to offer my perspective, it all works out just fine in the end, one way or another. We are all humans, and beautifully flawed. Strife within each other is always going to be present, but that is what happens when there is multiple viewpoints and different life experiences at play. There will always be disagreements, but as long as everyone continues to objectively view the situation and not let emotions take over, you will be on your way to living easier in this world.

Hang in there, all. Time flies and you look back at things and wonder why you got all hot and bothered, or thank life that you had a struggle that changed your life course. Humans adapt. By acknowledging you can adapt to pretty much any situation, anxiety decreases immensely as your self confidence grows. :biglove:

I just declined my instate acceptance! I hope somebody on here gets a call soon!

If you don't make it in this year, don't be discouraged! Don't give up, just reapply and work to make your application better! This was my second round applying after getting rejected from almost all of my schools last year (waitlisted in 2). Best of luck to everyone on here!

Has anyone heard anything since the March 19th date? They were supposed to send out acceptances then but the forum has been quiet.
