Hi everyone!
I recently completed the MHS program this past cycle at Meharry so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you very much for your assistance with answering the previous questions. Here are a few other question that would help if you provided answers to.

1. If you obtain a GPA above the requirement will this offset a poor MCAT score if you miss the MCAT requirement?

For example, if the requirements are 3.4 GPA and a 25 MCAT (based on last years version) to meet the academic requirements needed to gain admissions, but a student obtains a 4.0 and a 22 MCAT, would the strong GPA help offset the poor MCAT score and allow the student to matriculate? or do students absolutely need to meet the full requirements in order to gain acceptance?

2. If a student fails the program, are they given another chance at it, or are they kicked out and back to square one?

Thanks

No problem.
For the first question no, you must meet the requirements no matter what. There have been students who have gotten 3.9s and the same score on the MCAT and they were still not admitted to the program. So at the end of the day it is important to balance your schedule if you do have to retake the exam because whats the point of having a bomb gpa and you still can't get it?

And for the second question I know of a student that wasn't admitted right after the MHS program and they re-applied during the next med. school admissions cycle and was accepted. They did have to retake the MCAT to get the minimum score, but the plus side is that they were able to ask MHS teachers for letters of recommendations since during the program you get to know professors on a personal basis due to small class sizes.

If you don't mind me asking. Out of the entire med mhs cohort of your class how many did not move on? and how many were in the med cohort for your year?

Great, thank you very much.
Would it be possible to share last years academic requirements for matriculation into the MD program? Also, was the MHS program helpful for improving the verbal reasoning scores of students (I am just very concerned about missing the MCAT requirements and then being back to square one)?

Sooo I wonder when they're going to send something about the summer program..

I called yesterday and they said there isn't going to be a summer program.

Oh wow really? They need to change the calendar on their website then. Thanks for that info though.

For us the requirements were a 24 on the MCAT (with a minimum of a 7 in any one section) and a 3.3 gpa. The program itself is all science classes so unfortunately other than the summer portion (if they even have this according to the posts above) and winter MCAT sessions you won't have very much exposure to verbal reasoning. However, they did have the summer verbal teacher come in throughout the fall semester (once a month) to get us to do more verbal practice and she was available through email to answer any questions we may have had. In addition, many of the older students volunteered to give one-on-one tutoring for my classmates that needed help in any MCAT area.

Sorry guys I was wrongly informed there is a summer program. Just got an email.

This thread is for people who have received notification that they will be considered for the MHS program for 2015 at Meharry Medical College. Let's use this thread to keep in touch with each other and up to date.

Have you been accepted to the program for fall 2015?

Just for clarification, is acceptance into this program conditional acceptance into Meharry's medical school or is there some point when that is made clear, like after meeting certain requirements in the Spring?

Gpa and mcat requirements need to be maintained.

What is the day to day schedule like for classes? 8am-5pm? Five days a week?

During the Fall the classes were 10-3, 5 days a week, but its subject to change since sometimes our exams would be during the 8am slot or a teacher would reschedule class or a review for that time. In the Spring it was 8-3, 5 days a week.

Yes, if you meet the requirements of which ever school your entering, the program does guarantee acceptance. For dental students this past year the gpa was a 3.0 and a 17 on the DAT. However, keep in mind they do look at others aspects i.e professionalism, but these other things can easily be done.

Does one have to apply through AMCAS again to go from the MHS program to the MD program (if we are starting this fall should we apply again this cycle to Meharry MD) or will one be able to matriculate based on the previous year's application?

Has anyone recieved any info about Financial aid packets?

Has anyone recieved any info about Financial aid packets?
I haven't yet, but I also don't start until August so I am assuming that they are working on the students who start earlier. There was a financial aid email I didn't receive that talked about the steps necessary to get financial aid.

Does anyone know where they're living yet? I'm looking for a roommate.

Did everyone who has been accepted receive an admissions packet in the mail yet?
