Congratulations! 7/28?! Does that mean I have a whole month of anticipation and anxiety to go through (complete 8/21)?!! AHHHH

Haha yikes. I was complete 9/10, so at this rate... Merry Christmas to me? Err. wait... they fill their class by early December. So, hmm 😕... hopefully their timeline isn't quite that linear.

I know people that had secondaries complete at the end of August that got in before me.. I don't understand the order of how they go through the applications. But I know quite a few people that got accepted today that were complete in July!

Congrats on the acceptance! I think the order that they review the app is based on your composite score from your GPA/MCAT/Volunteer, and not specifically on the date of completion. Though I do believe if you were complete earlier than someone with similar stats, you'd get picked over the other guy. They're just going down the list now of their ranked applicants, and I do notice how the acceptances are going out to people with lower than the matriculant averages that they reported at the beginning of October so I guess nothing else to do but to hang tight!

Congrats on the acceptance! Do you know what the completion dates were for your friends that had the app completed in August?

Agreed!! I have a 26 MCAT with a little lower undergraduate cumulative and science gpas, and a 4.0 Masters GPA (12 credits in, but doing good so far). I hope they get to me and go, "HECK YEA." As well as everyone else here. We've all worked hard to get here. Good luck to everyone hangin in there 🙂

I can't help but feel a bit frustrated. 3.7c/3.7s/30, >1000 volunteer hrs, complete 7/30 and radio silence. After 3 years attempting to matriculate somewhere it's difficult to stay positive. At least I was awarded a research citation this week - Go Science!

Almost identical stats. Haven't heard anything! Frustrating process.

I also a re-applicant this year. I went to MSU undergrad. One of my letters of rec was one from a professor that teaches at MSUCOM. I've had 3 meetings with MSUCOM advisors to get my name and face out there. I'm sure all this also factored into my acceptance.

Are you two Michigan residents?

Got the call and email yesterday! 😀 Canadian - 3.9 cGPA/25 MCAT. Lots of volunteer work and MSc degree. I completed my secondary 8/2...I think. Waiting is definitely the hardest part, but be positive and think positive. When I received the call I was mentally wishing for it et voilà!

Congrats! That takes the total Canadian count up to 3 on this thread! =D

Hi, I am a Canadian and was accepted last week (PM for my stats). In the acceptance email is says that if we accept the offer and meet the requirements, we will be informed that we will receive the Canadian Initiative Scholarship. This did not seem certain to me, so I contacted the admissions office and they said that it is not guaranteed that all Canadians receive the scholarship and that they would let us know at a later date. The admissions person could not confirm when we'd be notified, they said likely before the deposit deadline, but they didn't seem certain.

I thought that the Canadian scholarship was definite for all Canadians. Has anyone else tried to confirm this with admissions?

In my case and probably many others, I won't be able to attend MSUCOM without the scholarship and would like to confirm that I have it before paying the deposit.

Also, I have been trying to get information on the financial requirements for international students (i.e. Financial proof of all years or just one? How much? Can the funds be in a Canadian bank account?), but the people I contacted either haven't responded or don't know the answer. Has anyone been able to find out?

Thanks

Can any MSUCOM students/former students shed some light on site selection? I am out of the country and will not have time to do a site visit before accepting the offer. I have been to Detroit, but a long time ago as a child and I cannot really say that I know it well. Can anyone comment on how they feel about the campus they are attending, the city where it is located (i.e. Detroit, East Lansing), safety, diversity, culture etc.? Thanks!

Do you guys know whats the quickest turnover time from secondary to acceptance/rejection? Does it take long before they receive my reference letters send through interfolio?

I am a Canadian and apparently they stop taking in Canadians after early December? I have rushed and submitted my secondary today. I know its my fault to submit my primary so late but I really want to get into MSUCOM.

Thank you!

I've seen it taking about two weeks for acceptance between secondary and acceptance. It honestly took the college one day to receive my letters from Interfolio. When visited the college, they said that they accept 20 Canadians per year, so not so much early December, just when ever they fill up. On here there has been about 4 accepted? It would be a good idea to call and ask the exact stats in how many have been accepted already.

Withdrew my offer of acceptance. Best wishes to all who applied. For those that care: was OOS.

Who's going to the dmc campus tour on friday? Do you dress up for it? Semi casual?

I really want to go but need to find someone who can watch my children. I've been pondering about what I should wear which is totally not like me but I don't want too fancy or too sloppy. We should meet up if I do go...a nerdy SDN get-together, lol.

I wore a dress shirt, Khaki pants, and dress shoes. I was among the more dressed up people there (EL tour). I saw people there with jeans and a polo. Shorts and a T shirt. So there was a variety. You meet the dean, a person from the admissions committee, and a bunch of medical students. So yeah, I would dress semi casual. It's a pretty laid back, fun, and interactive tour. Just be comfortable; I wouldn't wear a tie, and have fun! 🙂

So no bra? jk

Did you stay the whole time (4 hours)? I've looked at the itinerary for an old one, and it looked like it had something going on the whole time.

Well, you don't have too! Yeah I stayed the entire time. First the admissions committee spoke, then the dean, then ~15 med students introduced themselves and answered any questions people had. Finally there was a tour of the facility in small groups led by the med students. So there was always something to do. It was actually pretty great, they sold some of us on going to MSUCOM. Well at least the EL campus did 🙂

Thanks so much for the input! Lol to the nerdy sdn meeting though, 'are you study shy?' Hahaha!

Hee, hee, it would be so awkward! When I went on an interview at Erie last year, it was obvious who I was since I was about-to-burst pregnant. It was nice to meet some of the people who I talked to on here. The only bad part was that none of us that interviewed that day was accepted that I know of. We had a good time, though. We'll need a code word...wait that's dorky too. 😉

The open house sounds like it is a great experience! How many people showed up for the EL one when you went, Lysine?

Hmm, there wasn't a huge turnout, but that had to do with the fact that there where only ~80 people who where accepted at that point. But maybe 50 or so (including some parents). There was like a 1:3 ratio of med student to accepted applicant lol. So there was a pretty personal tour at the end. We where able to ask very specific questions of our med student, and they where all very nice and willing to help. They even gave us their E-mails if we thought of any questions later. There will be another EL campus tour mid spring I believe, so I recommend going to it as well.

That's awesome! I do really need to go. 🙂

For the Canadians accepted, if we accept our offer for admission to MSU, how bad is it if we later decide not to attend - if a Canadian Medical School acceptance is offered?

Do only those who have already been accepted receive info about open houses? Also, anyone know what the Canadian acceptance count is up to now?

It in fact sounds VERY reasonable, and your past volunteer experiences will show you have had an interest in medicine for a long time! There's nothing wrong with being a bit older. even with your time table, you'll beat me into practice! Make sure you do well in your post-bac pre-reqs and the MCAT, and keep up the excellent volunteer work. Enjoy the journey you have set out for yourself. Good luck, and welcome to SDN!

No, it should be anyone who applied. I'm going to the Macomb campus on Friday.

Does anyone know how many people have been accepted @ msucom?

As of 10/14/13 there where 118 seats offered and 53 paid deposited. As of 10/18/13 there where 139 seats offered and 64 paid deposited. Let's extrapolate: So about 21 spots offered per week, and 11 deposits paid a week. So in three weeks since last update, 63 more spots, and 33 more deposits. So grand total, 202 spots offered, and 97 deposits paid.

Even on here we have seen around 3 people withdraw their acceptance. So number of seats is dynamic. Well, here is a rough estimate! 🙂

P.S. Maybe I should of used 2 weeks instead of 3... Recalculate accordingly 😛

Ok, so here's my situation, and I am talking to an advisor on the 13. I am planning a back up plan for if I don't get in this cycle. I am taking a postbac science course and so far I have a 3.9-4.0 in it. I have five science courses from undergrad that I could probably retake and do way better than I did the first time to raise my sgpa or should I take higher level courses such as endocrinology and neuroscience? I've heard to take 16 credits postbac to raise gpa, but new courses or old courses? I would appreciate input!! 🙂 Thanks

Hey! So from my few academic advising appointments at MSU, they encourage you to take approximately 20 credits of postbacc courses with a 3.5 or higher GPA. Keep trekkin along, and hope that hard work does indeed pay off (I'm in the same boat as you/ also doing a masters now).

Hope tomorrow is a joyous day for all those hard workers who hope for their dreams to come true!

I got the call earlier.

Submitted 08/01 complete a few days later. IS 3.81 cGPA, 3.61 sGPA and 27MCAT. If you could quantify ECs, they would probably be my best attribute.

I didn't really participate much in this thread, but I followed it religiously. A lot of the advice you guys and girls have given has been the silver lining in this stressful ordeal for me. I pray for each and every one of you, good luck to you all!

Has anyone called the admissions to ask what the status of their application is? I hate being that girl that calls to ask because I can only imagine how annoying it can be for admissions but it has also been 2.5 months since i applied 🙁. I'm getting extremely anxious and a little depressed. Thoughts?
